Hey I'm gonna be a freshman this fall too! High school was super hard, I know college will be too, I guess we just have to treasure our moments free from stress.
I completely understand though. The burnout is so real. I'm in a master's program and seeing this normalized defuels that thought that I am garbage because I am not productive 100% or even 40% of the time most days
Well as a person who as finished college. I can say i didn’t get a job in my major.... BUT it was not worthless so many adult skills I learned in college made the experience worth it. I took 7 accelerated classes in one semester to finish early. (Accelerated means you go to class every day for a month.) I managed to keep my grades up and have a part time job. Still my proudest accomplishment to date. The effort put into college can be very rewarding. Hang in there ❤️
for the love of god, please do not drop out, i live my life long “foreigner who wishes more than anything that they could go to yale” dream vicariously through you, you dreamed of that for so long too, i’m sure, and you waited for so long to be able to go back... your burnout is valid but it’s also nourished by pandemic anxiety, you can get through this and it’s gonna be so worth it, once you’re older you’ll be so proud you didn’t give up
I have 2 essays due tomorrow and I haven’t started either of them. Thanks for making this video lol the people around me don’t seem to be struggling as much as I am and it’s making me feel like shit
As a high school senior, I really felt this. And finally someone said it that Wandavision was better at the beginning. I really thought I was the only one and I feel even better because you’re a film student

I go to Georgetown in DC, about to graduate actually in a month, and I remember sitting in my major departments' common area when the scandal investigation came out and I come from a working class family and I got in on a lot of financial scholarships. Me and my friends were psyched it was finally coming out that these kids bribed to get into school, because we all knew it, we all knew some of the kids involved. We were NOT surprised at all. In fact.. there were some international students who went on spring break after the news came out and did not come back to school lol.. anyway, all this to say, I'm super psyched for your film. Congrats and good luck with it and the rest of college!!
I love how realistic Ris's videos are, showing us that just because one is in college doesn't mean that the person has become some sord of Rory Gilmore or something.
I'm awake, full of energy, ready to take on the day... but first, let's drink coffee while watching a TH-cam video... now thinking I should climb back in bed and convince myself that life sucks.
Girl, you just described my days. I have not been productive at all, I'm behind in all my classes, I'm excited but not motivated and I want a break please :')
It gets better as you go. Hard to believe! The work doesn’t get easier, but you get better. And the work becomes more interesting. Also, good luck on your movie!
Super realistic part of being a student. Somehow this semester has progressively become less freak out and more naps of acceptance. There is always tomorrow, unless it is a deadline, amen
ok I had to watch this two times in a row because it PERFECTLY describes me (burnout, dedicating a lot of my life to plan B, a good student but annoyed at spending time on assignments that don't actually help me improve - would prefer to do my own thing, only doing my laundry when I'm desperate, wearing the same thing many days in a row...)
Ris, I am constantly consuming your content at an unhealthy rate because it helps me cope with the fact that IM behind in all of my college classes and badly want to drop out
I can relate so much with the ‘why do I go to college’ thing. I am a psych major, and i still have to do about 2 years for my bachelors and then 2 for my masters degree. But all I want to do is become a filmmaker, my parents made me go to Uni so I would get a degree and pursue film projects afterwards. But it sucks when your only motivation is that it’s your backup plan
every time you talk about films you're working on, it makes me so happy. i also studied film and i'm always missing working on cool stuff with my friends c:
Honest to god ris, the two years left will literally fly by. It might have also been the covid times stuff, but I feel like I just entered my junior year but now I am suddenly picking out my senior classes and applying for grad schools. Not saying it’s not gonna suck but the last two years definitely fly by
Wait that was not a productive day ?! If I did all that in a day, I would be proud of myself... I mean laundry + going out more than twice + classes + essayyyyyv...that's a completely productive day
This is such an accurate representation of a college student. I'm currently a freshman in college and majority of my day is just surviving through my classes until I land on my bed. I've met students with super unhealthy habits like drinking 3 coffees a day and eating junk food everyday. I have no idea what I am going to pursue as a career and I honestly don't even like my major. I wish I took a gap year or looked at other options because I have no idea what I want to do. The education system does not prepare you for real life at all.

Why is this the most relatable thing I've seen all month. I am also behind on all my classes and I'm also thinking of just dropping out instead of catching up on my work. Like I don't know why, I just can't bring myself to do ANYTHING
REAL TALK as a person with parents who do not have college degrees it is still worth it to have at least a Bachelors because there are so many jobs and opportunities that require a person has a BA in something. I'm in the tail end of my gap year and I am feeling so grateful that I made that choice and I am ready to attend school again in the fall. There's also a lot of schools that adopt more self-directed learning opportunities if you ever need to transfer somewhere that is more conducive to your learning style, even though the transfer process is a lil scary at first

i don't know if this is what you wanna hear exactly..but your videos about college honestly make me feel a lot better about my plan to just go to a community college this fall. everyone i know got into great schools and applied for scholarships but i've been struggling so much with my mental health and some other stuff the last couple years that i just,,,never got around to any of it. i'm so disappointed (bc i'm sick of living with homophobic parents and i thought college would be my chance to get away from that) and even though i know community colleges are perfectly good schools, i'm still embarrassed at not meeting my teacher's and parent's expectations. i already do so much of what you described here (sleeping through classes and being so behind on work have been huge problems for me this year) and i know i'm not going to magically turn myself around in one summer so i'm sure those things would just get worse if i was at a super competive school. a lot of people try to give me some vaguely motivational talk about "you can do it bc you're so smart!!" so seeing someone be more honest about what college is like makes me feel like i'm making the right choice. thank you for that and i hope you feel better/it gets easier to deal with soon.
