I remember when this was the newest Zelda. It was head and shoulders above Zelda 1 & 2. I couldn’t wait for the next Zelda! When you’re 5 years old a 6 year wait is a long long time…

I stand by my theory that this is the original timeline. At some point following the events of Zelda 2, someone used the newly restored Triforce to alter the outcome of the battle between Ganon and the Hero of Time. This erased the Downfall Timeline and created the Adult and Child Timelines.

I like the idea that the wish made upon the Complete Triforce by the Hero of Legend, in order to undo all the damage caused by Ganon, is actually what accidently caused the timeline split. By that wish retroactively being what allowed the Hero of Time win his fight so long ago. But the way the power of that wish manifested, you may ask?

I head-canon when Kohonlint fades away Link becomes the one to dream it. That way, Koholint still exists, just in Link’s mind instead of the wind Fish. This would mean that the entire island of Koholint could go on adventures, and Marin wouldn’t be a seagull.
