FERRY FIASCO: Kate Forbes inadequate answer if Glen Sannox ferry will be delivered on time

- A senior staff member at Ferguson Marine was sacked as a result of a “breakdown of trust”, the Deputy First Minister has said.
Reports emerged over the weekend that the ship delivery director at the yard which is building two late and over-budget ferries had his secondment terminated and would return to his original employer - the Government-owned ferry procurement body Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL).
The first of the vessels - the Glen Sannox - is due to be handed over at the end of July.
Speaking in Holyrood, Kate Forbes said: “The Scottish Government was informed on June 19 by Ferguson Marine that the ship delivery director’s contract had been terminated as a result of a breakdown in trust.
“This is wholly a decision for Ferguson Marine.”
The Deputy First Minister refused to go into detail about what had caused the relationship breakdown which led to the manager’s sacking.

Forbes should disclose what the reason is for the sacking, we own the damn yard! . One more example of the SNP treating the people of Scotland with contempt with blatant disregard for honesty and transparancy. The yard in Turkey has already built two, with the 3rd & 4th also on schedule and to budget.
Sounds to me as if neither the shipyard nor the SNP had any clue about what they're doing. The shipyard happy with the situation so long as the incompetent SNP keep throwing money at them, while they SNP are blithely swallowing what they're being told, because they're SNP and don't have a clue about anything anyway.

We could have paid every worker on that shipyard a small fortune and maybe they could have set up their own shipyard - minus their management!
Perhaps they should have saved the jobs of the emplyees at McVities in Parkhead when it closed. More employees, no less deprived than Port Glasgow, and perhaps a more viable proposition.
It appears that the Glen Sannox isn't operating as amazingly as we were told when it started Its sea trials.
Just waiting now for the next delay as it would seem highly unlikely it will be delivered by the end of July.
Wouldn't surprise me if the Turkish ships will be operating before the Ferguson Marine white elephants.
They cannot afford to deliver rhe ferries, because once they have gone, so will their jobs. A bit like the QE2 at John Browns in Clydebank, many years ago, once completed, next stop the dole.

The dual fuel decision was a disaster, taken only to be politically correct. The gas system will need to be regularly used to maintain it in a safe working order.
Do we know when the ship will run on gas and then switch to diesel.? Will it run on gas when in the harbour areas and diesel when crossing the Firth.?
What great advantage is it to have two types of fuel.?

By the sound of things the ferry might be scrapped to save further higher costs. Excuses could be unfit for purpose. Not green enough. Forgot to get enough life boats for passengers and crew. I'm sure there's more that only the snp can come up with.

The shipyard workers could have dug a tunnel out to the islands quicker. The record so far suggests the program director was not doing much good and his departure will do little harm.
The SNP should be ashamed trying to preserve the last remaining shipyards and workers in Scotland.
That building is a waste of money, it is always empty.

I don't know why any party is wanting to keep Fergusons open. Shut it down - it's incompetent and inept, much like the Scottish Government, the only body it makes look good by comparison. When Ferguson failed it should have been closed and a competent yard given the contract to start from fresh building these ships. We'd no only have sailing ferries by now, but for significantly less cost too.
Remember, Calmac could have replaced their entire fleet, with change left over, for the cost of these two ferries. Nobody would put up with the massive cost overrun. It's like getting to the checkout at Tesco and finding everything is five times the sticker prices on the shelf.
