haha Pete's reaction to the price tells everything :) They removed the expensive finish, hardware etc to cut the price down, but they add the push/pull system which make the cost higher than simple electronics ... and honestly, who really use the push pull feature? :) they are expensive cheap les paul guitars, I'd be patient and look on second hand market for higher range LP for cheaper price. Great demo guys, as usual!

It's even worse than that. The pots would cost nothing for you to implement yourself. 40 bucks at most. For Gibson (not switching pots, mass installing them, buying them in bulk, etc), it's negligible.
Also they've added them multiple guitars in the past (mostly between 2015 and 2018) without it causing cost increases. So it's not established to drive up cost.

The Modern Lite seems pretty cool, because it offers something people actually want (a lighter LP with simple, straightforward features and humbuckers). The Studio feels a bit like a guitar without a purpose...you can likely find a used LP Standard for the same price or close. And why offer a heel access cut, but then not do a tummy-cut?
I dig the Modern Lite though. I could definitely see myself with one of those.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE AND CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!! The majority of the sound, like 85 to 95% of it, comes from the player; Brian May's guitar tech, Pete malindrone, said that in the video a good while back! I did a straight swap for a guitar that stood me at £235, so I don't expect to find a deal like that again anytime soon. It's got a 500T and 496R, replacement Grover tuners, is the same colour as Pete's in this video - but looks like it's been chewed by a pack of wild dogs - it sounds like a monster with 10 - 52 strings, and I love the fuck out of it. The earlier 90's Studios had ebony fingerboards, but mine is just rosewood. Forget Epiphone, try and find a 90's Studio.

Guys, the guitar they announce as the 'new' (?!) Les Paul modern lite is actually something they produced in 2014, and it's called the 2014 Les Paul Melody Maker! ( And I'm a proud owner of it) Yes, same arch top but slim body with belly cut, same size, same design, same dots on the frets... The only difference is that MM comes with two P90s+ wrap around bridge + vintage tuners (old tuners are far better than the new line up)...A fantastic fantastic guitar in the collection. At the time it was announced, people were laughing to it, because they thought it was a student model, a cheap Gibson, a half breed! Hah, still one of the best guitars I own !! Due to it's reduced weight and arch top, it's comfortable than other LP's I've owned! With P90's, it's raw snappy and angry!! So never listen the people around you, go and try, and if you like it, grab it! Believe me ,it will be valuable in future and maybe you'll won't let it go and keep because it's a good axe! I'm just surprised that no one reviewing this guitar is aware of the past models or the history of Gibson models, so that's the lack of knowledge nowadays... So If you want an original USA made instrument, a real Gibson, don't even think about it's slim body etc or to the "lite" label on it...Sound and playibility wise no it 's not a lite guitar! The only thing annoying me is it's price tag. Even with the high inflation around the world in all countries, I still believe this guitar should be in 1200$/€ price range...I now understand that the new Gibson CEO wants to direct the players with low budget to Epi line up, and if somebody wants a Gibson label on her/his guitar, he/she must pay min. 1499 or more, that's the new rule...Time will show if this strategy is correct or wrong,we'll see..

I love many Gibson guitars and their sounds, including the ES-335, of which I own two models. But I hate the company's pricing policy, which I think is outrageous and completely excessive. As soon as they launch new models on the market, we can assume that the guitars have become more expensive again. Many manufacturers have proven that this doesn't have to be the case. That's why I say clearly and unequivocally: Adieu Gibson!

      @@frankcarter6427 Hi, Frank!
I absolutely agree with you! I don't understand why so many guitarists (rightly) moan about Gibson's astronomical prices, but at the end of the day buy another overpriced Les Paul. As long as the majority of guitarists throw their money, for which they had to work hard, into the insatiable maw of this US company, they need not be surprised if Gibson continues to raise prices in the future.
This buying behavior is completely irrational for me, especially as we musicians are not doing ourselves any (financial) favors. On the contrary: we are supporting this outrageous price hike.
I will keep my two ES-335 models, but I will not buy another Gibson as long as this company does not offer a reasonable price-performance ratio for its guitars. There are so many first-class guitar manufacturers offering affordable instruments these days that fortunately you no longer have to rely on Gibson (and Fender).

I have to agree - I went into my local guitar shop last week to look at one of the new Epiphones that everyone has been raving about online (thinking I might offload my 2013 Les Paul Standard and pocket the difference in price as I haven't been playing it that much of late and I could use the cash I'd get back for other things). They just don't sound or feel the same despite the looks. I picked up one of the modern studios for a back to back comparison and it was no contest.
