Yes he did. I am not 100% certain, but I thought I read a story about him receiving some sort of medal. No matter if he didn't he proudly served our country, which is a LOT more than we can say for some others who disrespect our flag and country.

Some quick Googling... The "Worry Wart" episode aired in 1956. In 1956 $1.00 is equal to $9.42 in 2019 accounting for inflation. So $42.00 = $395.64 today. Still a great price for a 2 week vacation.
The refrigerator in their apartment always got me to laugh. It played a part in many episodes. That was like an antique even in those days. Had to be a 1920's model.

It was more like 1900-1918.
RJ Walker-our house[built about 1830] has an old fashioned"ice box",now used for storing tools. There was a small ice pond here too as source for the ice. Electricity did not arrive here

Rob Bernath I heard that they never socialized together. Supposedly Carney left immediately after the show and kept a distance from the rest of the cast. Jackie was the outgoing, party animal... Carney was a quiet introvert... so I’ve been told!

Art Carney always does those 4 introductory music notes of "Dragnet" (at 1:10) whenever he is caught doing something he knows Ralph won't like! Nobody does it better, and Art is still the best comedy support actor in tv history! Jackie was asked how much Art's character contributed to the laughs and success of "The Honeymooners." Jackie proved how great he was in not only being gracious which is exceedingly rare in competitive Hollywood actors, and extremely complimentary in his answer as the comedy lead: "at least 90%!" Ever hear any lead actor give such credit to a co-worker on the success of the series they were on? Art was not only a great comic actor, he could do serious drama roles, as evidence by his 1975 Academy Award for Best Actor in his "Harry and Tonto" (1974) film. Richly deserved, and I was so glad he won to show how terrific he was in his craft! He lived to be 85, in Nov. 2003, and I was sad to hear he was gone. But he will never be forgotten for the laughs and joy he gave us, same for Jackie and Audrey.
I always thought dragnet was broadcast in the 60s, so I used to wonder how he knew about it in the 50s, but much later I found out it began on radio in 1949. Those radio episodes were great!
My fav situation comedy of all time and to think around 90-95% of the scenes shot on that one set. Truly amazing talent. Alice was such an awesome and wise contrast to Ralph and Norton.

$.93 gas bill 😂 I can remember getting a Ham & Swiss Hero sandwich, a small bag of Wise Potato Chips, and a bottle of Dr. Pepper for $.65 cents at the neighborhood deli across the street from the ball field after my Saturday afternoon Little League game in 1961 & 1962. NOW ... that'd be a $11.00 lunch.
Back then that WAS a decent apartment. People lived in a lot less. Entire families lived together, which is where the concept of row houses and multi-family houses came from. Don't forget the era and times of this show only about ten years after WWII.

Back then that $42 per week was a lot of money. This was after WWII when the housing boom took place and even though a lot of people couldn't afford to buy a house and instead rented an apartment, the salaries back then were next to nothing, but if you take his salary and put it into today's money, it's probably a few hundred dollars, given inflation. When I was around 13\14, gas was only $.29 per gallon and that was in the late 60s.

The argument being that the company should be smart enough to set things up so customers can't make a mistake or that mistakes won't matter in the end. As for the hot coffee lawsuit, that was actually a legitimate claim agst McDonalds, which is why the woman was awarded punitive damages of $3M. (You can Google it.) McDonalds knew they were serving their coffee dangerously hot and even paid off a boatload of prior settlements before that infamous incident, when the woman did suffer 3rd degree burns. Whose fault it was was moot once it was discovered McD's was knowingly serving their coffee too hot. And the ironic thing is, she was willing to settle for a measly $1200 but McD's penny pinched with a counter offer of $800 to keep her quiet. Had they paid the $1200 she initially asked for, it never would've gone to court, and McD's wouldn't have been out the $3M (aka 2 years worth of coffee sales.)
@@marcweissman5752 I think we're looking at the same aspect of customer behavior from slightly different angles. Customers usually assume they're not at fault. The wording if that line was the best for me. In retrospect, you are correct-- the hot coffee incident was a bad example. But it waa the gateway drug for the lawsuit culture that followed.
My dad had a friend who would always show up around dinner time. As children we would get a good laugh. When I got older mother told us his wife ran off and left him and he never got over it. And our dad always felt sorry for him so he would tell him to come over and have dinner. I felt bad after making fun of him all those years while growing up.

Back then that WAS a decent apartment. People lived in a lot less. Entire families lived together, which is where the concept of row houses and multi-family houses came from. Don't forget the era and times of this show only about ten years after WWII.

Back then that $42 per week was a lot of money. This was after WWII when the housing boom took place and even though a lot of people couldn't afford to buy a house and instead rented an apartment, the salaries back then were next to nothing, but if you take his salary and put it into today's money, it's probably a few hundred dollars, given inflation.
When I was around 13\14, gas was only $.29 per gallon and that was in the late 60s.

@@chewycenter7690 I also work in customer service, and people blame "the company" all the time, even when they themselves make a mistake. The argument being that the company should be smart enough to set things up so customers can't make a mistake or that mistakes won't matter in the end. As for the hot coffee lawsuit, that was actually a legitimate claim agst McDonalds, which is why the woman was awarded punitive damages of $3M. (You can Google it.) McDonalds knew they were serving their coffee dangerously hot and even paid off a boatload of prior settlements before that infamous incident, when the woman did suffer 3rd degree burns. Whose fault it was was moot once it was discovered McD's was knowingly serving their coffee too hot. And the ironic thing is, she was willing to settle for a measly $1200 but McD's penny pinched with a counter offer of $800 to keep her quiet. Had they paid the $1200 she initially asked for, it never would've gone to court, and McD's wouldn't have been out the $3M (aka 2 years worth of coffee sales.)

In retrospect, you are correct-- the hot coffee incident was a bad example. But it waa the gateway drug for the lawsuit culture that followed.
My dad had a friend who would always show up around dinner time. As children we would get a good laugh. When I got older mother told us his wife ran off and left him and he never got over it. And our dad always felt sorry for him so he would tell him to come over and have dinner. I felt bad after making fun of him all those years while growing up.
I loved I Love Lucy it was a great show but I never remember her making me laugh like Gleason did .
