I was studying the Cumorah question the other day and found that if you only look at the Book of Mormon to guide you on the location of Cumorah there is no reason that the real Cumorah described in Mormon should be linked to the place called Hill Cumorah in NY. Ignore the church created introduction and chapter headings. Joseph and others simply began calling it the Hill Cumorah. There was no indication of revelation to Joseph re: location of Cumorah. Moroni didn't call it Cumorah. It doesn't even make sense that it be Cumorah. 1) Moroni was wandering trying to stay away from the Lamanites, not go back to the epicenter of the great war, likely not far from other Lamenite civilizations. 2) The "real" hill cumorah held not just the gold plates but a whole room/cave full of records. That is not what Joseph experienced in NY.
@spencerall incorrect. When Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry were at the hill Cumorah, a cave opened up revealing a massive room full of records and artifacts. Brigham Young described several wagon loads of artifacts.
@@keithsmith5998you are correct in what you've written. Let me ask a few questions. It was opened for them. Meaning the opening was not found but was revealed. Is it beyond possible it moves as well? Or, in a different view, Christ was transported multiple times when he was tested in the desert, could Oliver and Joseph have been transported as well? Last, the city of Enoch and Zion (Salem), which is the city of Melchizedek, were both taken to the Lord, could these room of "sacred records" not also been done so too? Ponder on it, but well done on being precise.
I had Brother Griffin as my New Testament teacher BYU over 10 years ago, and it was the most impressionable and incredible class and experience ever. I could sit through his teaching all day! He is such a great teacher, so knowledgeable.

Two very intelligent men searching through the scriptures. I love both how Jeff methodically asks these questions, and Tyler who is so good at explaining the scriptures. I love it!
Thanks Jeff and Tyler for the very cordial and informative video on your understanding of the Book of Mormon teachings. I feel to share my story and testimony with you.ppl I was raised a Lutheran by a Catholic father and Lutheran mother who rarely attended any church. They however made sure my brother, sister and I were sent to church. I'm forever grateful for parents who cared enough to see that I got some religious training in my youth. I'm grateful to the Lutheran church for introducing me to Jesus Christ the Son of God. By the prayer of faith and the witness of the Holy Ghost I learned as a child that Jesus is the true Son of God who lives today as a resurrected being in heaven with God the Father. I know that he atoned for the sins of all mankind on the cross and opened the way for the resurrection and salvation of all men. In my early teens I questioned my parents, church and leaders on their authority and knowledge. I rebelled against society and became a hippie looking for love in all the wrong places and doing all the wrong things. However, God in his great mercy chose to chasen and awaken me to the error of my ways. This happened at Woodstock 1969(when I was 19) during a near death experience while I was abusing my body with those bad things of the day. I found myself in hell tormented by all my sins and I then reflected upon my childhood belief in Jesus Christ and called upon his name to save me. He heard my voice and He delivered me back to life. I was born again and made a promise that day to change my life and go and do what the Lord wanted me to do. He led me by the Bible and the Holy Spirit over the next nine months to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where I was baptized in the Atlantic Ocean at Smith Point Fire Island, NY on June 27th 1970. I know by personal revelation and the Holy Ghost that Jesus is the Savior of all mankind and He has led me to the prophet Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon and the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which I know to be true by the power of the Holy Ghost. Please seek, read, ponder and pray concerning these things and you too can know they are true by the power of the Holy Ghost I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen! Peace
So glad you were able to collaborate with Tyler Griffin. I’ve been watching his and Taylot’s Come Follow Me channel for a few years (Scripture Central) and have learned so much from their insight. And I learned more about the Book of Mormon again today.
I wish more people would read the Book of Mormon to find out what we believe instead of assuming what's in it from rumors and criticizing us. You're doing good, you're an example to everyone what *should* be happening when someone is curious or wants to put rumors to rest.
Yes, I had many bad experiences with Evangelicals dictating me what I believe in, instead of asking me what I believe in. The pain of disrespect was just real.

This BYU Professor has just taught me some new things about the Book of Mormon that I didn't know. Fantastic! Because I was opened minded and really wanted to know whether or not the Book of Mormon is true, because I prayed with real intent for God to reveal this to me, I now know the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit. Pastor Jeff could find this out too, if he opened his mind to this possibility. He should pray and ask if his current beliefs are true. "But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right. But if it be not right you shall have no such feelings, but you shall have a stupor of thought that shall cause you to forget the thing which is wrong."
Awesome thar you've cometh know for yourself thar the BoM is true!! Now what is the most important doctrine taught in it and why is it absolutely necessary to understand it?
Excellent commentary. The desire to understand and willingness to learn in a humble manner will always bring out a wise, thoughtful and correct interpretation of what is discussed..
I would like to add a bit more of understanding to this theme. A father gives physical life to their childrens, we became Christ childrens as he has given us spiritual life. We are born again through his mercy and his atonement.
Jesus Christ tells the brother of Jared that He is the Father. There is only one Father. Jesus Christ is both the Father (because of His Spirit) and the Son (because of His flesh). Mosiah 15:1-5 And now Abinadi saith unto them: "I would that ye should understand that God Himself shall come down among the children of men and shall redeem His people; And because He dwelleth in flesh, He shall be called the Son of God; And having subjected the flesh to the will of the Father, being the Father and the Son - The Father, because He was conceived by the power of God, and the Son, because of the flesh, thus becoming the Father and Son, And They are one God, yea, the Very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth - And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son to the Father, being one God, suffereth temptation and yieldeth not to the temptation, But suffereth Himself to be mocked and scourged and cast out and disowned by His people.
@@joesimpson9230To clarify, the reason Jesus is called "the Son because of the flesh" is because His physical body (the flesh) is the only one without a mortal father, because God the Father is the father of His physical body. This was needed to give Jesus both a mortal and immortal body so He could both die and also endure taking upon Him all of the sins and infirmities of the world before His death. Also, Jesus is the 2nd member of the Godhead which makes clear the Godhood of Jesus. And Jesus was Jehovah before His mortal life so Jesus is the God of the Old Testament who spoke to and guided the prophets in the Old Testament and is the One that all of their ceremonies were for, representing the sacrifice He would make for all mankind. He is the Holy One of Isreal, the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob, the Word who was with God (the Father) in the beginning and was God (2nd member of the Godhead) before the Earth was formed and created all things by direction of the Father, which the Father is over. And the Father and Son are one in unity, love, and their purposes for mankind as part of one Godhead, with the Holy Spirit, who work together and has one gospel. So when it says God Himself would come down and would be called the Son of God because of His flesh, and that They would be one, this is what it means. This is one of the many examples in the Book of Mormon of how the Book of Mormon really doesn't contradict the Bible, but says exactly the same thing and shows how we need prophets of God who receive revelation to inform us of what the scriptures really mean. In this case it was Joseph Smith who was also the same prophet that translated the Book of Mormon. He was also the prophet that God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ appeared to, showing Joseph that They are two seperate, individual personages that are part of the same Godhead. I'm sure if They hadn't appeared to Joseph he may not have believed it for himself considering how ingrained the philosophy of the trinity was in the minds of the Christians. It was one of the things that needed to be restored. And, as the professor explained, when Jesus is referred to as Father it is referring to us being spiritually reborn through Him who makes us clean through His sacrifice when we repent, make covenants (such as baptism), and continue to repent for the remainder of our days. Also, Jesus is called the Father of creation, because He created all things in the physical realm, by direction of Heavenly Father who gets his title because he is the literal Father of our spirit bodies. That is the *one* title of Father that Jesus *doesn't* have is being the literal Father of our spirit bodies as Heavenly Father is to all of us. That's true regardless of anything we do or don't do. We will always be children of our Heavenly Father.
I see God working in small ways to bring together believers in Christ from various viewpoints. Jeff has been willing to change from his former stance of animosity towards Latter Day Saints. I respect this so much. It is wonderful to find ways to work with members of the community from differing perspectives whatever tbey may be.

This section includes the final comments from Mormon as captured in the art work "O Ye Fair Ones". I think of this when we are considering the state of our societies today. Often we pit one side against the other (politically usually) as if one has it all and the other is the bad guy. The reality is we are in a mess and increasingly so every day. So the focus on discipleship in these days is so crucial and to find a work in "interfaith relations" is so beautiful. This is what matters most. Thank you for your care and leadership in moving this work forward :)

I'm a "Heartlander" myself; I believe Tyler is "Yucatan man"; The way he handled that was a master class in diplomacy 😃 Tyler is an awesome teacher!
I loved this! Two people who love God and the Bible but from very different, sometimes conflicting, perspectives. I love watching this respectful, insightful conversation. Thank you Pastor Jeff for taking us seriously.
I feel to share my story and testimony with you.ppl
I was raised a Lutheran by a Catholic father and Lutheran mother who rarely attended any church. Peace
What a lovely expression of faith. Thank you for sharing!
Wow! Great story! Thank you!
So glad you were able to collaborate with Tyler Griffin. I’ve been watching his and Taylot’s Come Follow Me channel for a few years (Scripture Central) and have learned so much from their insight. And I learned more about the Book of Mormon again today.
I took 4 classes from Bro Griffin at BYU! One of the greatest teachers I have ever had the privilege to learn from in my life!
The problem is everything we believe can't be found in the BOM.We need to be familiar with the standard works and the history of the church.
@@runner8632no you guys don't seem to understand the most important doctrines. Jesus and satan weren't brothers, and you are not getting your own planet to populate after death. There is not 3 levels of heaven and hell is definitley a real place! Your works are a dirty rag to God. Works don't save you, baptizim doesn't save and the "burning in the bossom" is not from God. He is clear that our hearts are wicked and we don't trust our feeling we test the spirits. That is only done with scripture. The BOM isn't God breathed scripture.
What rumors are we talking about?
@@Mikelray-df9mywe need to read ALL the scriptures!! And current revelations.
I am glad you finally did a video with Tyler. He’s a master of the scriptures and I learn a lot from him.
My favorite episode so far! Tyler is incredible and brings the Spirit to the conversation. Jeff shows respect and reverence as he learns more about the Book of Mormon. Beautiful!
You have been well prepared, Jeff! I love to see, how respectful both of you talk to another. It is possible to be open an friendly and respectful to people in other churches. Mostly, there is a lot of common ground. You are a great exemple. Thank you!
This is a much more productive way to study the Book of Mormon. Thank you for this episode.
Two-way respect from two wonderful young men sharing a delightful gospel discussion. Enjoyed every word. An old timer S. Dilworth Young said, "With respect, the truth can always be shared."
If this video doesn’t make anything else but TWO THINGS clear. It’s that the Book of Mormon is an additional witness of Christ (whether you believe that or not) the content, it’s pages and over arching message is one of turning to Christ!
2. We as members of the Church of Jesus Christ, worship, believe and know that it is by Christ that we are saved.
Tyler did an excellent job! Really appreciate this and I would say this is the best collab yet!
I'm sorry to break it to you, but the book of mormon is a work of fiction 😥

This was the way to do this. I appreciate your humility in changing the format. Good on you Pastor.
Wow, I could listen to Tyler Griffin all day! Thank you both, I really enjoyed hearing from you both! You are both so articulate and respectful!
I love you both, so I was so excited to see this collab!!
Thank you for choosing Tyler to study with. As far as Latter Day Saint teachers go he is one of my favourites. He is very good at understanding how the majority of lay lds people understand the LDS gospel. His testimony of Christ encourages unity and love. It was a pleasure to watch the two of you discuss what is sacred to both groups .
In full disclosure, I have not been a fan of this channel. But this podcast with Tyler griffin speaks favorably to the integrity of pastor Jeff's intentions. This was excellent! Tyler did a fantastic job explaining these chapters
This has been my favorite Hello Saints so far! Thank so much to both of you for all your scriptural insights! I learned so much. It's such a good feeling and feels refreshing to understand both of your angles. You were good examples of having a spirit of love with each other! That's what Jesus Christ wants for all of us to have. Thank you again so much for doing this! Amazing!
Excellent and productive discussion Jeff. So great when people of differing faiths can have such discussions. I believe this is what God wants His people in the body of Christ to do so we can all come to understand and grow closer to Him.
WONDERFUL session, Pastor Jeff. Thank you. This is one of the best ways to help understand and discover the miracle that is The Book of Mormon.
What do you feel is the most important teaching and purpose of the Book of Mormon?
Thank you for having Tyler on Hello Saints. I know that you and all your viewers learned something new.
I have learned a lot from his videos on Scripture Central.
Dr Griffin is so knowledgeable. Pastor Jeff couldn’t have picked a better person to explain any questions he has.
From some one who has known Tyler (Dr. Griffin) since he was a young boy, I am so proud of the man, teacher, researcher and scholar he is today. Thank you Tyler for all you teach and testify of through ancient scripture and how it does mirror us today and give us a lens into the future. The Lord invites us to Come See, and to Hear Him and I might add Love His words. ❤️
I am glad someone else has known him since a young age. I went to school with him. I love how he teaches with the spirit. I learn so much from him
Best discussion yet. You two compliment each other very well.
This was extremely edifying for me. It gave my faith’s flame a little more oxygen. Thank you for this amazing conversation.
This is so wonderful!Jeff, one of the best, if not the best, thus far! Thank you! Tyler is brilliant!

I appreciate your approach pastor. You are indeed a tender and loving man towards you fellow man. You really try to gain understanding with a sincere heart. The world needs more pastors such as yourself!
Great discussion; thank you. I really enjoyed that and it's so great to see people from different faiths sit down together and discuss points of history and doctrine w/o animosity or argument. Good job, guys.
Would love to have this duo be an ongoing podcast studying Bible and Book of Mormon

Love the way you did the Read Recap and React with another person that understands the book. Seems Pastor Jeff was actually trying to learn here. I only wish that in the future we could do the whole book in this format where someone or several ppl that know the book are there to help like Tyler did here. Way better vid than the original versions where it was only pastor Jeff.
I didn't want to end this to be honest. When you hungry you want more. Beautiful.
More to come!!

I so appreciate how much respect they treat each other with in discussing their belief. ❤
I love that you had Tyler on with you...from the begining I've loved how you have sought to understand mormons from mormons. It is inspiring to watch you discover and to go through that journey of discovery vicariously with you.
Good questions, incredible insight from the professor. I wish I understood Scripture like this. Beautiful! 😍
Loved this episode to its core! Probably my favorite yet. I just sit here and marvel at both of the intellect of both parties here. Thanks Pastor Jeff for bringing Brother Griffin on. ❤
More of this please. Encore!!! 👏🏻
This is by far your best video. Love this so much ❤
Wow. Great discussion and so inspiring to hear a respectful discussion between two scholars from different religions.
The Everlasting Father part was very interesting, I've never recognized that from Isaiah. Makes me want to take a class from this guy.
I would like to add a bit more of understanding to this theme.
A father gives physical life to their childrens, we became Christ childrens as he has given us spiritual life. We are born again through his mercy and his atonement.
“Spiritually begotten”…as King Benjamin explained 👍🏼
Jesus Christ tells the brother of Jared that He is the Father. There is only one Father. Jesus Christ is both the Father (because of His Spirit) and the Son (because of His flesh).
Mosiah 15:1-5
And now Abinadi saith unto them: "I would that ye should understand that God Himself shall come down among the children of men and shall redeem His people; And because He dwelleth in flesh, He shall be called the Son of God; And having subjected the flesh to the will of the Father, being the Father and the Son - The Father, because He was conceived by the power of God, and the Son, because of the flesh, thus becoming the Father and Son, And They are one God, yea, the Very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth - And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son to the Father, being one God, suffereth temptation and yieldeth not to the temptation, But suffereth Himself to be mocked and scourged and cast out and disowned by His people.
Please do more of these. Great format with a knowledgeable member. Tyler is a good teacher and knows the scriptures well. 💪🏼
I see God working in small ways to bring together believers in Christ from various viewpoints. Jeff has been willing to change from his former stance of animosity towards Latter Day Saints. I respect this so much. It is wonderful to find ways to work with members of the community from differing perspectives whatever tbey may be.
I am very pleased to see that you got in touch with Brother Tyler, I admire him, he has the light of the Lord Jesus Christ in him; You will learn a lot from him.

Dr Tyler is amazing and thank you Pastor Jeff for having him on your program 👍🎉
This was worth my time. Thank you! I can't wait for the next one haha : )
I love Moroni and Mormon so much. I love them all but I have always felt close to Moroni. They lived in the worst times and yet they were so faithful.
This was great! Would love if you did more recaps with Tyler on other parts of the BOM later.
Our youth theme this year is “I will stand as a disciple of Christ” and it has been one of my favorite themes and maybe it’s because I’m a YCL but it has really helped me better understand who I am.
This was SO AWESOME! Thanks :)
Thank you Pastor Jeff. This episode was beautiful. I loved the questions you asked, which prompted the inspiring answers. I felt the spirit listening to this.

Loved watching you and Tyler discuss this together! I have not seen Tyler before this, but he seems to really know his stuff and seems to be a great teacher!
I could see several bewildered faces as he explained things. It to good to understand the differences in our core doctrines to help us live together in more peace
I love Tyler and his podcast. He's such a wonderful teacher and is so loving in everything that he does. I did stop watching this other guy's videos a long time ago because I felt like all he was trying to do was "learn" about the church and then try to just find something wrong with it. I'm still struggling to feel like this guy is sincere. I hope I'm wrong.
Same. But I have to say, the more that I listen to Ward radio, the more I like Pastor Jeff! 😊 Cardon has serious and legitimate PTSD from growing up around evangelicals. Pastor Jeff is trying to be kind, and he's not telling us that we are going to hell every 2 seconds. That deserves some mad respect 😊❤
