    so Jeff I didn't read all the comments so this may have been explained to you already. the liquid fuel does not burn, what burns are the vapors from the liquid. the heat generated from the Zippos heated the fuel causing more vapors those vapors are escaping from between the insert and lighter casing and ignited as they mixed with oxygen upon escaping. you can see this by the fact the small lighter went off first due to having less surface area needing to be heated up. I believe those slims were affected by the heat from the box style Zippos.not saying they would not have had some reaction from there own heat, but you provided much more heat by them all being so close together. the slims are more of a sealed unit as they heated up the vapors could only escape from the wick hole that is why the flames grew larger. at the end flame was showing from the bottom of one of the slims either the fill port screw was not tight and vapors were allowed the escape or more likely the rubber seal melted from all that heat allowing escape of vapors. to do this test right you needed to do one lighter at a time of course that would making for a long boring video so I get why you did it like this. Hope I helped you understand why this happened and why the box style lighters can't be lilt for very long. BTW I love your videos you are one of my favorite youtubers.

      I think you are right because I did the test with my own zippos and one went 3:45 without blowing up or burning down 😅but I did them one by one, alone and not burning them side by side.

    The lighter is heating up the fuel, as the whole thing is very conducive because it’s metal. As the fuel is heated, it evaporates more rapidly and forcing its self thru cracks in the lighter. Think of a pot of broiling water, basically the same thing except fire is far more involved. 😂

  • @jackdaw634
    @jackdaw634 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should really check if they are still working. I would guess at least the zippos only went out because they burnt up all the fuel. Or at least the big one. It really didn't seem like it broke.

  • @stefanhnavetsea1588
    @stefanhnavetsea1588 ปีที่แล้ว

    zippo should have made something about the spring so it will shrink and close it lids automatically once critical temp is reached or perhaps a lower melting temp choke point on the wick somewhere to stop the fuel from wetting the wick so to burn off the wick purposefully to kill the flame once the critical temp is reached, it need something that is a sacrificial safe precaution that can be easily replaced either around the lid mechanism or around the wick.

    Jeff, I think you over fill your zippos. The gasket test was a sign. That thing was soaked.

    • @mitchellgardner2193
      @mitchellgardner2193 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're only suppose to saturate the cotton, not fill until you can see the actual liquid, especially with those rubber gaskets since the original piece soaked up that excess fluid.

    • @wilsjane
      @wilsjane 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am sure that you are correct. My friend once used his zippo as a candle when the power went off and it just burnt normally.

  • @FreeKanal
    @FreeKanal ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it because when metal becomes warmer it expands and that cause fluid leaking?

  • @brandonkoh8361
    @brandonkoh8361 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Seems more like the lighter itself is getting too hot, and its essentially boiling all the lighter fluid. All that gaseous lighter fluid is flammable and so it feeds on itself, boiling more and more. This means that its really a fight between heat gained from the flame and heat dissipated from the body. Since all of these lighters are made of metal and have their fuel reservoir so close to the flame, they inevitably will fail. Its just the size of the flame and how much metal is in close contact to the flame.

      i dont think theyre broken really, maybe need a new wick at worst, i think the shell and cartidge just heat up and make the lighter fluid evaporate alot quicker and with more pressure causing the lighter fluid to overwhelm the wick and pour out around the cartridge, not inherently dangerous unless you knock it over or drop it indoors or burn yourself trying to close it... it wont explode or anything
