The plastic construction that holds the flint and striker wheel on a Clipper can be pulled out and replaced. Try it, it's not that difficult. Might save the Clipper.
From memory the "flint" in mose lighters and zippos is actually a scaled down ferrocerium rod. When they're exposed to high heat they don't burn, they actually become chemically inert (for the purposes of sparking).
You should do a test where you fill a zippo up then solder all around the top where the insert meets the case to seal everything except the wick hole then see how it burns for a long time
I have this little peanut lighter keychain that I got for free with an order from BladeHQ. Its a handy little shit that is great for a backup lighter and it has a rubber gasket around the cylinder that keeps the gas in there so that it doesnt evaporate overtime. its basically like the IMCO wick cylinder with a wheel flint right next to the wick and about the size of a peanut. Can't remember the name of it but it surprised me how well it works....I can send you mine if you wanna test it
Hmm for the IMCO, i would have taken a skinny bamboo skewer and try pushing the wick through the hole that way, and grab it on the other end with pliers or tweezers. Good video! I've always wanted to get one.
cutlerylover Jeff, push some dental floss or a strand from some 550 cord down the hole. Tie it off to the wick then pull it back through. Try a knot similar to wrapping a knife handle so the wick comes straight up. Option 2 wrap the end of the wick with tape, similar to a busted shoe lace that needs an aglet. You should be able to push it through but will lose however much of the wick you cover in tape.
I'd still love to see the final results of the zippo anti evaporation cap tests, still waiting and still keep getting videos of you making the same "gotta go fast" mistakes
what about a oil soaked rope lighter? if the end is already charred, and the sparker is strong enough it could light up. if the oiled rope had a piece of fire cord wrapped or woven in with the rope it may light with just a spark.
the thing with the rope lighter is there is no flame just burning embers from the rope but it cant stand upward on its own even if you propped it up it relies on oxygen to burn so without touching it as the rope burns down into the tube that holds it and will be low on air and probably just go out...But Id say it burns cooler with no flame so you could probably hold it longer than a regular flame lighter like these
Admit Jeff, like all your subs says, the biggest mistake is you're keeping the lighter lid for too long. I use the gasket too, I done have your problems cause it takes me three seconds to light a cigarette. Nice test and effort though. C U, Piggy.
Interesting, my bottle opener lighter named as a Dolphin actually has a small plastic part near the hinge, so I wonder if that would fail in a similar way to the Clipper after a while.
once you click on the link scroll down a bit to see other models with the adjustment part there are a few variants on the lighter design, IMCO is the company name not the model
The IMCO seems to hold fluid a bit longer IMHO...I LOVE THEM. the only thing I wish Zippo could do is put the asbestos back in the wicks so they could again be truly windproof.
I've seen a video on YT where a guy removed the wheel on an insert Jeff, heated it up to cherry red and quenched it in water, replaced the rivet with copper wire/rod, recreated a rivet. He said the wheel would be annealed after long exposure to direct flame. Replaced everything and the spark was markedly improved. Be interesting to see these tested as to how long the wheel lasts now
that's why they're called "lighters." They are meant to be used momentarilly to light something else and then extinguished. If you need a small flame that will burn a long time, use a candle.
A lighter is a portable device used to create a flame, and to ignite a variety of combustible materials, such as cigars, gas stoves, fireworks, candles or cigarettes. It consists of a metal or plastic container filled with a flammable fluid or pressurized liquid gas, a means of ignition to produce the flame, and some provision for extinguishing the flame. Alternatively, a lighter can be powered by electricity, using an electric arc or heating element to ignite the target. the definition of a lighter has no limits as to how long they can or cannot burn neither does zippo make any claims their lighter can only be safely lit for short periods of time...its is only some peoples assumptions that "lighter" means a device that makes short bursts of flames...in fact a torch is just another version of a lighter that can burn hotter and longer...

Jacob Poucher pretty sure thats is what its made for🤣🤣
Can even replace it with the flint wheel portion on a gas station plastic clipper
I was about to say that I bet u can use normall big clipper flint holder thing and be ready for less then 5 dollars
I spent like $40 Australian dollars on that zippo butane soft flame insert and it sucks im gonna buy a metal clipper next
Don't forget, any lubricating oils burned away with the flames, so that probably is one reason for the tight responses.
The clipper probably has a normal clipper insert for the sparker it should be an easy fix
Try taking some plyers to the plastic

I think the cam spring just lost its temper. It heated up and cooled down slowly.
I must admit that I am not overly surprised the zippos, imco and unnamed lighter work. There isn’t a huge amount to go wrong
Thank you for the test looks like they are all good lighters if used properly.
I just love how youtubers texts prodects to the max, and its pretty cool
The no name lighter would be nice without the bottle opener...
Do you know the video he did on it or the link to this lighter?
So they are lighters not stoves. Check got it
Cool, always wanted to use my Zippo like a candle.

I believe he already has some on those. Has showed them in old videos

The zippo slim cam just needs oiling...I’ve had that problem before
Can’t beat a Zippo
Actually you can imco's are very good.
@@Beowulf_98, imcos are nice yeah. But still can’t beat a Zippo.
@@JoseMora-wc5zz I don't use zippos anymore fuel doesn't last long enough I only use the maratac peanut xl now.
Please do a similar test wit a Bic and scripto and other disposable lighters.
@Sean S that is the point I want to see stuff like that.
The cam spring on the Zippo slim got red hot and lost its temper. Don't know if they will actually sell you that
bonus round: trying to send them in for warranty lol

Thank you for the autopsy's video.
Use a piece of fishing line and pull it threw the holl and see if you can get the wick that way!
Loop of thread down through the hole put the wick in the loop and pull it up through the hole super easy.
It’s not just the heat for the zippo. But when you are low on fuel a zippo tends to burn wick as it’s fuel.
What is hard to improve upon a zippo design
My Imco stopped working the other week 😞, but they're only a few bucks so ima buy a new slimline model.woo
How it’s possible that the cotton balls aren’t burned out? I mean cotton is easy flammable
Part 2 of the ultimate test.
This is a great test glad i didnt have to do this myself

Some metal became rainbow anodized X-D which looks cute.
Hey Jeff, I'm a knife maker and would like to send you a knife to review. Can I do that?
Shit I'd be glad to get one 😂
Is the knife collection from 8 years ago still for sale?

simp
Do you suppose you could make a replacement for the plastic part out of wire (assuming you find the wheel)?
there are metal ones you can buy
Any reccomendations on a good budget lighter that isnt a zippo? (already have one) i would prefer butane so it dosnt try out
Wow more really amazing Zippo video!!! ^^
I like the form factor of that no name lighter.
Great testing /video 👍
hey !!!!!! did anyone care that he missed a couple of days ...did he explain ....i was worried
does anyone have the link for the Chinese lighter?
If you smell fuel that doesn't mean it has fuel it means it how so hot the fuel aerosolized
Is that IMCO you have listed in your description the exact same one as yours..
I don’t notice the flame adjustment on it like your’s?

Fun experiment!
neat experiment
That tablecloth is a payed actor
Zippo full size is the winner..
Thanks
How many people call an IMCO an I-M-C-O?
Anyone know where to get his address so I can't age with him
Go to "about" section of his channel.
Thanks man
I would like this but its at 420
Cool video ,nice 2 know
Guys flailing around a burnt out tampon...
Nice !!!
Love to videos
What up
What was the point? You don't use lighters like that! If you read the instructions they tell you not to run for more than 1min!
