I'm a returning player, haven't played Guild Wars 2 in years and decided to go the Necro / Reaper route for my first build back into GW2. This guide is excellent. @@HeroicFlamingo Loving mesmer (22) played some ranger and rev (high teens each) and have an 80 Necro and 80 guardian I've not touched that my friend lvl'd for me over the years when I was playing WoW... thinking of rolling the Necro tonight to get my mount for lowbies. Likely sticking with Mesmer for *my* main... either way- your vids are so helpful!

I just unlocked the 3rd specialization. And I have seen a significant boost in damage when using blood magic instead of soul reaping. The siphon damage helps out a lot. Middle, bottom, top. For that. I also went top, bottom, middle. On death magic. I left spite the same as yours. For utilities, I removed well of darkness and replaced it with the two rat minions. Other than that it's the same
Thank you so much for this man! Just made my necro to lvl 80 using this leveling build. It's amazing. The only thing I changed is the signet, I used the movement speed one. This build is still even amazing on HoT. Now, I'm a repear 😁
I like this for a leveling build, however i am a huge advocate for a minion build when leveling especially if you’ve never played this game and even more so if you’ve never played an MMO.
Was actually surprised by what you have as your skills. So why these instead of straight up minions? I would think the extra pets pulling aggro, golem in particular, would be best for leveling.
trying to get into guild wars the past week, i brought the game years ago, got to level 80 and stopped playing, now i realise i missed out on learning all the important things, back then my mates used to tell me what weapons to use, gear to have etc, so i didnt actually understand nothing, now im trying to learn why im getting more powerful and how to actually get better
Great video as always and I am kinda happy that you make it now, I was switching away from my brand new necro like 3 days ago! Only one suggestion as an ADHD person : lower a bit the music, it took away a lot of my attention and had to rewind like 20 times lol

But now i have search TH-cam etc. And digging in to it again,much to take in but i do it my way and not so fokus on lvling as fast as poss. Been leveling with this, it's been super fun! The 2 wells are crazy good and the flesh golem is also really cool. At low levels I think for healing the heal signet or blood fiend might be better because you rarely need to activate a heal, so might as well leech from your opponents

I started playing 3 days ago. I'm level 63 and been using a minion build. It felt underwhelming in the damage department and the minions weren't that smart for my taste. This build works wonders. Thanks :D

Holy crap, I did your thing with a couple Tweeks, like I did half gear in berserker and half in assassin which favored crit over power a d the same with the rings half in ruby and half in opal with basic crit and power bonus weapon sigils and armor runes were power and crit (Mesmer and something else) and had like 54% crit on my 60 Necro and was hitting so hard the golem was almost useless cause the bad guys were dead before he reached them lol. Good video man

A bit late on this, but when it comes to precision and ferocity: While I am not sure 100% that its the same, in diablo 3 it is generally recommended to balance crit chance to crit damage in a 1:10 ratio. This can vary of course depending on what the caps for either are in GW2 here. In diablo an item can have 10x more crit damage than crit chance, so thats the ratio to get you the best and most consistent results. So basically the ratio between crit % in a full crit % build to crit damage in a full crit damage build is the one you should be aiming for, if you are unsure of what gear to keep.
@@yungskolking1470 because there are similarities, you have a limited number of items which can carry the stats, so you have to make a decision of ratio crit chance to crit damage.
Minion build is normally slower for killing enemies due to less direct damage and therefore takes longer to level 😃 minion builds are still really fun though!
Path of Fire yes, Heart of Thorns you may struggle but once hitting level 80 with this build, I recommend you farm all of the Path of Fire skill points and unlock the Reaper elite spec ASAP 😃 then you will be able to smash everything up
You'll want to 100% use the Greatsword as it's beastly and your other weapon set I would recommend, Axe/Warhorn 😃 keep the same utilities as this build and use Reaper's Shroud as much as possible 😊
@@HeroicFlamingo I have a question for you. So I am using this build and working on Reapers in PoF zones. (I am only 40% complete with Reapers). So I am having a hell of a hard time dying trying to get the mastery points so that I can unlock the mounts. I have the raptor and still need 1 point to master "Canyon Jumping" so I can unlock Springer. Why am I doing that? Because most of the mastery points appear to require at least the first 3 (sometimes Jackyl too) or 4 mounts to access them. But the catch 22 is that to get the mounts, I need points from PoF. To get the points, I need the mounts. So I started working on the 250 hero points needed for Reaper first. I am getting destroyed trying to do it. I can do the fights as long as I get no adds, but many of the hero point locations have patroling adds that beat the crap out of me. Maybe I am just terrible at the necro? LOL I have all berserker exotic gear with superior runes (of the pack?), the same exotic weapons as you and the same runes in them. For the accessories I used some with toughness + vitality, and the other 1/2 berserker. It seems that with these areas now mostly barren of players, the mobs quickly overwelm me. Maybe I need to use the skills better, who knows. Sould I be able to get the mastery points without Reaper, or should I focus on getting the hero points to complete reaper first? Maybe I need to get ascended gear? Not sure. NOTE: If I do Thorns zones, same issue, I lack all the special masteries to get to all the locations for mastery points. Thats why I am trying PoF first, I am hoping the mounts make it easier in Thorns until I get the masteries there.

I was reading some forum posts and everyone said by 80 all the traits would be filled out anyways. I do seem to struggle getting the muscle memory down for the necros spells. But it’s only been a few days. Played FFOnline and wow. So no stranger to different games but for the life of me my brain jus wants to smash everything in a row lol
Combat is relatively fast paced so may take a bit of getting used to but stick with it as it's really fun 😃 and you're right, you get enough skill points just getting to level 80 to max out all specs ☺️
@@HeroicFlamingo My only real complaint so far is the mounts. Gotta be 80 to get one right? Or am I wrong? I didn’t look much into it but the running place to place drives me insane. I’m spoiled from other mmos 😂
That's right because you unlock them during the Path of Fire campaign 😃 the only thing I would say is once you have unlocked them, you get them for your entire account so your level 1s will be able to use them ☺️
Hey man Nice guide! Just a question tho i'm currently leveling my necro @50 atm .. I find myself having an easier time with the staff / dagger warhorn it looks like the axe focus doesnt do alot of aoe so not enough dps output overall nah? How is the axe focus combo can overdps staff? thanks bud!
I feel like the loss in AoE abilities is made up for by the fact that 2 of the utility skills are ground targeted AoE abilities 😀 the staff is predominantly a condition weapon so for a leveling power build that wants to take down enemies as quickly as possible, axe is definitely the most efficient 😊 however, if you prefer using the staff, definitely use that because that's all that really matters!

You're very welcome 😃 after you reach level 80, you want to work towards the Reaper elite spec as it will turn you in to the absolute beast! You'll unlock the Greatsword weapon which you should definitely use, alongside the Axe and Warhorn for maximum damage 😃
Axe/Focus with the Staff is definitely a viable option if you're looking for something more condition based but having all my skills as ground targeted abilities does annoy me a bit! 😃
@@HeroicFlamingo Btw dude i cant seem to find it on the gem store, have they removed it or something? I havent bought the expansions yet so maybe its that.
They do rotate the stock quite a bit and despite the fact that I saw it on there a couple of days ago, it has now come off! Keep an eye out as it comes on quite frequently 😊
Only if you travel to another area or something like that. If you're just running around in the same area killing stuff, it will stay up the whole time ☺️
As levling, i found dagger way better then axe.... Life Siphon with dagger do so much more dmg then Ghastly Claws. So imo, i wouldnt bother to much about weapons as you level up. Just enjoy the game and use the weapon with highest weapon str and stats on.

They do regularly rotate the stock in the gem store but this one always comes back 😃 with Halloween around the corner, you can bet it will make a comeback very soon!

For my necro, most of my weapons and armor are mainly precision and power, (mostly precision in stats are higher) so as lvl 80 final stats, I get 70% critical chance with 2,043 power. Is that good? Should I mainly focus on my power with sacrificing a bit of my critical chance?

Necro was probably the easiest class for me to level up, power axe and just stack on all the minion skills (except for heal slot)

Direct damage from a power build is going to kill the enemies a lot quicker and therefore is better for leveling but minion builds are fun as well 😃

No, races are not important, choose whichever looks good to you.
Why choose golem in the elite ability slot rather than something else such as the lich form or plaguelands maybe?

Because most of the mastery points appear to require at least the first 3 (sometimes Jackyl too) or 4 mounts to access them. But the catch 22 is that to get the mounts, I need points from PoF. To get the points, I need the mounts.
So I started working on the 250 hero points needed for Reaper first. I am getting destroyed trying to do it. I can do the fights as long as I get no adds, but many of the hero point locations have patroling adds that beat the crap out of me. Maybe I am just terrible at the necro? LOL
I have all berserker exotic gear with superior runes (of the pack?), the same exotic weapons as you and the same runes in them. For the accessories I used some with toughness + vitality, and the other 1/2 berserker.
It seems that with these areas now mostly barren of players, the mobs quickly overwelm me. Maybe I need to use the skills better, who knows. Sould I be able to get the mastery points without Reaper, or should I focus on getting the hero points to complete reaper first? Maybe I need to get ascended gear? Not sure.
NOTE: If I do Thorns zones, same issue, I lack all the special masteries to get to all the locations for mastery points. Thats why I am trying PoF first, I am hoping the mounts make it easier in Thorns until I get the masteries there.

@@HeroicFlamingo so far so good. I didn’t look at any guides at first. Only in my 20s so far and just felt like I’d messed up. From the 2 guides I definitely did 😂 but will keep on. I was reading some forum posts and everyone said by 80 all the traits would be filled out anyways.
I do seem to struggle getting the muscle memory down for the necros spells. But it’s only been a few days. Played FFOnline and wow. So no stranger to different games but for the life of me my brain jus wants to smash everything in a row lol
Combat is relatively fast paced so may take a bit of getting used to but stick with it as it's really fun 😃 and you're right, you get enough skill points just getting to level 80 to max out all specs ☺️
@@HeroicFlamingo My only real complaint so far is the mounts. Gotta be 80 to get one right? Or am I wrong? I didn’t look much into it but the running place to place drives me insane. I’m spoiled from other mmos 😂
That's right because you unlock them during the Path of Fire campaign 😃 the only thing I would say is once you have unlocked them, you get them for your entire account so your level 1s will be able to use them ☺️
hello like you video. i got an axe ealry and a focus but all my drops to level 22 havew been 2h staffs how do i get axes and focuses to drop
I guess you've just been unlucky! I would recommend buying a cheap one off the trading post or from a weapon merchant 😃
Hey man Nice guide! Just a question tho i'm currently leveling my necro @50 atm .. I find myself having an easier time with the staff / dagger warhorn it looks like the axe focus doesnt do alot of aoe so not enough dps output overall nah? How is the axe focus combo can overdps staff? thanks bud!
I feel like the loss in AoE abilities is made up for by the fact that 2 of the utility skills are ground targeted AoE abilities 😀 the staff is predominantly a condition weapon so for a leveling power build that wants to take down enemies as quickly as possible, axe is definitely the most efficient 😊 however, if you prefer using the staff, definitely use that because that's all that really matters!

You're very welcome 😃 after you reach level 80, you want to work towards the Reaper elite spec as it will turn you in to the absolute beast! You'll unlock the Greatsword weapon which you should definitely use, alongside the Axe and Warhorn for maximum damage 😃

They do rotate the stock quite a bit and despite the fact that I saw it on there a couple of days ago, it has now come off! Keep an eye out as it comes on quite frequently 😊

The elite golem skill doesnt stay up all time it vanishes and goes on cd
Only if you travel to another area or something like that. If you're just running around in the same area killing stuff, it will stay up the whole time ☺️
As levling, i found dagger way better then axe.... Life Siphon with dagger do so much more dmg then Ghastly Claws. So imo, i wouldnt bother to much about weapons as you level up. Just enjoy the game and use the weapon with highest weapon str and stats on.

They do regularly rotate the stock in the gem store but this one always comes back 😃 with Halloween around the corner, you can bet it will make a comeback very soon!

I'm only lv 20 rn, but I've been focusing on condition damage. With so many bleeds, poison etc, power builds are still better ?
I think condi is more in line with a necro
For my necro, most of my weapons and armor are mainly precision and power, (mostly precision in stats are higher) so as lvl 80 final stats, I get 70% critical chance with 2,043 power. Is that good? Should I mainly focus on my power with sacrificing a bit of my critical chance?
