    I did this at the beginning of the lockdown in 2020.It's already 2 meters tall. I live on the east coast of South Africa so I think the warm and wet climate helped it grow quickly. It has started producing mangoes, so many of them. There are small growing ones on there. I counted about 22!
    Update: The tree has produced mangoes every summer. It is now taller than the house. This summer I harvested nearly 100 mangoes and that's considering some of them were stolen by the Vervet monkeys.

      not all mangos have the same type of seed so U can easily damage permanently the seed if u stick anything into the husk the way this dude did it.
      U can split it open even easier by cutting the very bottom of ANY mango seed or split it without sticking the knife all the way passed the husk.

      Does the planted seed require a lot of sun?

    • @loredejazz
      @loredejazz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BELL123467 when I first sprouted the seed it didn't get too much sunlight. It was next to a window that was facing north and a tall wall was a meter or so away from that window, although it was mid-spring and kind of a warmer weather (30° C, sorry I'm terrible with F).
      Since then, I've repotted twice. At first I managed to sprout four seeds out of two different varieties of mango, but sadly only one of each survive now. They are placed next to a window facing southeast and get a good 6-8 hours of sun (again around the 30°s) and I water weekly or every two weeks at least, depending of the weather. They are about half a meter tall. After more that a year they should probably be taller, but they got a pretty bad case of mealy bugs we're still treating. Also, they are together in a pot and they do need a deeper one. I am thinking of separating them by now, but it might be too late in the year by now. But I figure they would have gotten taller if not for that.
      Haha, sorry to give you the whole story, I know you just asked about the sunlight, but I thought you ought to know that they have not been low-maintenance, at least in my experience. But the smell of the leaves is amazing and watching it shoot new ones is awesome. Good luck if you go for it!

    Nice! An alternative method is to keep the seed partially submerged in water. Also heads up the clay pot actually makes the soil dry out faster! It initially holds some extra water but then it wicks away the water from the soil. That's actually a good thing for potted mangoes though, at least according to a Logees video I watched. But that's why you'll so often see cacti in clay pots.

    Thanks for this video- I have an overly ripe mango to try to grow, and your video seems the most helpful I've found. I would only add @3:55 it helps drainage to put small stones, gravel, or broken shards of pottery in the bottom of the pot (a few inches). This also helps keep the dirt from coming out the bottom. Great job and now I have a chance of trying this successfully! Thanks!

    Thank you so much for this great video! Two weeks ago, I put my first mango seed in a plastic bag, but then it got addictive and I've got several on the go, haha. The method worked great, and am now moving onto the potting stage 🙏🏽🌱

      @Lucy Mercado My first mango tree is doing great! It has four large leaves, with three very small ones coming in, as well as a tiny secondary branch coming in. I also potted another little mango tree a few days ago, and still have three more seeds in plastic bags 😊 Have you grown your tree, or are you thinking of it?🌱

    The best way to propagate a mango is direct seeding, meaning remove the SEED from its SHELL and plant it DIRECT to the Plant Container. Let the soil damp until it would sprout out.
    Note: the cover soil would be an inch thick in order to grow easily.
    The process in the video is a bit sensitive to the sprout especially in the Hot weather places because the whole brittle sprout exposes outright to the air and Sun. Unlike Direct Seeding system, the Sprout is SLOWLY GROWING UP from the soil thereby having a gradual time adapting to the weather.

    You should always put a layer of rocks at the bottom when planting in pots. Rocks help drain excess water and keep the roots from growing mold.

    • @Clipper282
      @Clipper282 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes if you don’t put rocks in the bottom, the roots can fill in the drain hole easier and clog it.

    • @plants2323
      @plants2323 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know... that's not exactly the "truth"... If you overwater the plant- yah the excessive water will just locate at the bottom of the pot but normally (we try not to overwater the plants xD) when you put the rocks at the bottom...the layer of the wet soil will just rise up so the higher parts of roots will be sitting in it.
      I hope you get my point 😂😂
      I've heard that many times (unfortunately after planting most of my plants with drainage xD)

    Ever since this video got reccomended to me a couple months ago I have always wanted to grow my own mango tree, since I don't really have many plants of my own. I usually just grow flowers and aloe vera plants for my grandmother, who then uses them for medicine.
    Can't wait to try this out, all I have left to do is buy a mango! I'll probably edit after a little while to tell you how its going.
    Edit: it's been a while now, but I haven't been able to get around to doing it, but now I finally planted my mango. I left it for three weeks and in the wet paper towel it grew a pretty large root and a tiny stem with two little leaves, but the paper towel was very dry when I took it out. Gonna write a new update in a week or two.
    Edit 2: it's been 2 weeks since I planted my seed. It has been growing very quickly. It has a larger and stronger stem with 5 pretty big sized leaves. Now most of the leaves are very thin and hang down, but one is stronger and thicker so the rest should follow too. I suspect that untill this layer of leaves grows strong the stem won't continue to grow upwards. Look forward to another update in a few weeks time. Date: 2021-07-10
