I left some pits outside uncovered in a compostable bowl to dry. For a few days. They started to open so I pushed them into a container with soil. That was yesterday. I'll try to keep you updated if anything happens. I'm a first time gardener.
Thank you man. Finally after many attempts over the years, I got them to grow. I think planting the seeds on the surface of the soil did the trick, before I was planting them deep
while they were in the fridge for 3-5 months - how often (if at all) did you have to open the pkg to redyrdate the seeds and then replace back into the fridge?
Add some cinnamon powder and it takes only a month be ready to actually plant in soil This was trued and tested alhamdulillah .I used the wild cherry locally grown they are tiny cherries.but it worked with plum seeds too am sure with other seeds too. Exactly what you showed in the vid but just sprinkle the cinnamon powder on the tissue and just do about 5 or 6 seeds at a time Thank you for sharing your methods and results.all the best with all your planting journeys and experiences
really cool, i'm going to have to try this i wonder if cherry trees have the hard pit so that when birds eat them whole, the pits dissolve by the time the seed passes threough them
Hi....I set a vise grip to slightly smaller than the pit. I place the pit in the grip and crack the entire pit open and grab the seed out. I learned this from another you tube video. It is simple and effective. I really enjoyed your video. : )
the very best way to get the seeds out of the pits is to put the pits in a vISE. This is by far the best way to get to the actual seed inside the shells.
I have grown some cherry trees from just the pips after eating them I just let the dry and planted them in a small pot ,well it was the bottom of a water bottle then watered them and put the top half of the bottle to act like a greenhouse and they started growing after 5 to 7 days they are only about 3 inches tall and they seem to be doing fine just after 3 weeks , I just make sure the soil is wet
I used a channel lock vise grip to crack the shells. The longer handles gave better leverage to crack the shells without crushing the seeds. Also, I just recently checked my seeds to see that the paper towel is still damp. They've been in the fridge for 3 weeks, at this point. I found that mold spots had developed all over the towel. Luckily, I did not leave the seeds undisturbed for the full 3 months!! I quickly exchanged the paper towel and returned the seeds to the fridge. So, my suggestion is to check on the seeds/paper periodically as it would be a shame to open the container after 3 months to find it covered in mold. By the by, some of the seeds were already starting to sprout :)
Hello! I have tried this method. 4 germinated rooted seeds in a cup of soil have been in my fridge for a few months. I am scared that if I take them out, they will die because of the change of temperatures. Right now It is winter weather where I am, but I think Its too cold outside compared to the fridge to take them out there. I also think the change from the fridge to the house temp would be a quick change for the seed. Would the temperature change really hurt it? Also, would it hurt the seed if it’s transferred to sunlight near a window? I had already transferred 2 of the seeds I had during late November and put them outside in a shade but they did not make it. So I’m trying to get these last 4 I have survive and live to be grow and be healthy
Hi Maribel, I only put the seeds on soil after taking them out of the fridge. If they sprout in the fridge, when you take them outside the shock will be big. You cant keep them forever in the fridge. I suggest putting 2 plants outside and 2 indoors. For all plants prevent them from having big daily temperature variations. Please update us with how your cherry trees are developing! Thanks for your comment! 🙂👍

Don't look for fast returns. Most take at least 6 years to produce a good quality fruit. Cherries are a strange fruit, they rarely produce a fruit that resembles the fruit the seed came from unless you graft it onto a known producer tree. I have a small cherry orchard and graft my 1 - 2 year stock on older producing trees to replace older or non-producing trees
Hi, John; I’m not sure I understood your comment correctly. What is it you graft to non- producing cherry trees? Seedlings from store- bought seeds? What is meant by “stock”, (1-2 year-old)? Thank you!
Hi there! Before it sprouted I watered everyday or every 2 days. After sprouting I reduced the frequency of watering, only watering when the soil started to get less humid.
All the 'stone' fruit need chill period. The seed thinks it has had a wintering chill period. These often range from 400 chill hours (below about 43 degrees F) to some 800 hours, some fruit more, even near 1000 hours.
Hi there! Both trees are related, both trees look quite similar and they produce similar flowers. The difference is that for cherry trees the flowers are short-lived and quickly turn into fruits. On the other hand cherry blossoms produce flowers that presist for a few weeks longer.
You're right, but I like to grow plants. If I want good tasting cherries I will buy them from the store. I'm elderly and will not see these trees. My hope is that their shade and beauty will be enjoyed.

Answering your question... they take about three years to establish and can begin bearing fruit in the fourth year.
Better way is to use a hammer. Place the seed on the cement floor with a little hole in it. Then hit the seed with the hammer. I did it your way and hurt myself 😢

You should stratify the seeds first, this greatly increases the rate of germination.

If you keep those wet towels with seeds in a zipper bag kept in a dark room it will be germinated in 7 to 10 days

Coffee beans are eaten this way as well , then gather them up and brew. They have to go through something first. Guts, frost, and Spring.

Shaking cinnamon on paper towel will prevent the molding spots and will not effect the seeds. Nice sprouts 👍

what is the best temperatures when should put it in soil ?
Do you need to keep a lid over the seeds or it just in a container with the wet paper Towel ok? Would clear sandwich wrap work as well?
Hi Virginia, I keep the container covered. That is to keep the moist inside the container.
I've done it in Ziploc sandwich bags and it turned out fine. I supply a local nursery with cherry trees every year.

Do you need to check them in between the time to add more water or just let them go
Hello Carrie Maddox! I you referring to when it is in the fridge?
Keep the tissues damp while in the fridge
i have not done the seed germination process in refrigerator and i want to know is it possible to put 5 months in it?
How do you get your seeds Winter ready!?
Is it the same with sour chery??
Can you plant as soon as they root?
Hi Gamergoose! Yes you can!
How often did you water before and after sapling appeared?

Does fruit come in this plants?
Will it also be possible to grow cherry in a tropical country? Thanks
Hello JC! Yes it is possible. These varieties are suited for tropical climates: Surinam cherry, cherry and Barbados cherry.
how did you prevent mold
Hi there! I did nothing. Mold did not appear.
What's the mud is called?
Potting soil maybe.
how long until it makes fruits to eat?

All the 'stone' fruit need chill period. The seed thinks it has had a wintering chill period. These often range from 400 chill hours (below about 43 degrees F) to some 800 hours, some fruit more, even near 1000 hours.
Hello Douglas that is a awesome explanation!!! Thanks for sharing the knowledge!! 👍🙂
what happens if you don't crack open the seeds first and just plant them?
I put some cherry seeds in my compost bin and after 2 years they had not decomposed, at all. I'm glad to know the outer seed coat has to be removed.
Should we water them while they are in fridge during 5 monthes??
I think the tree you showed is a cherry blossom tree and not a cherry fruit tree.
😂😂

@@HowtodoChannelWORLD Thanks. Do the cherry blossoms eventually turn into fruit?
I didn’t do any of this? But I planted my Cherry seeds while I didn’t cut the seeds. My plant is about 10 inches tall.
When is it the time to start it takes months.
nice good
🙂
The trees from cherry pitts will not be the same as the tree that the cherry came from. 99 out of 100 it will be a bad tasting cherry.
But you can graft in the branches from an edible cherry tree, it's a good way of providing a strong root stock
Maybe because touching the sprouts contaminates them. Why not use scissors and cut the paper towel with the sprout in it and plant the whole thing?
You're right, but I like to grow plants. If I want good tasting cherries I will buy them from the store. I'm elderly and will not see these trees. My hope is that their shade and beauty will be enjoyed.

Roll of the dice. Better off growing a tree from a cutting if you want good fruit down the road.
