Very good! Best mangoe growing video I’ve seen, Although I would have mentioned polyembryonic Species of mango versus single embryo Speceis. If you grow a polyembryonic Species from seed it will produce the same fruit as the parent tree, unlike the single embryo species. A good example is the Ataulfo mango, a common species found in grocery stores.
Yeah, I grow Nam Duc Mai which is also polyembryonic. I'm going to do a vid on the difference between the two and how to select the seedlings during mango season this year.

By the way I am also growing lemons, oranges, lychees and avocados from seeds. I love growing plants, and where I live it doesn’t have too much cold here until December to March. Then starts warming up quickly by April. On the cold nights I bring them inside, my question is: When do I need to plant them and how do I keep them from the cold since they are able to be planted outside? I live in the North Eastern part of Texas near Oklahoma.
Awesome video, thank you! Is there a source that you can recommend to buy the cuttings to then graft onto the seedling? I watched your avocado videos, and have the same question there, too. Thanks again!

I did grow a mango tree from seed; started it last year just to see if it would grow. It's about a foot and half tall now, indoors and will be an indoor plant (cold, cold Winters here). I wonder, is there is a way to keep it small enough to keep as a houseplant? I have been observing it as it grows in the warm sunny window, and it pushes up new leaves every so often. Would pinching off the new leaves keep it from getting much taller? Would it hurt the tree? Has this ever been done? I don't expect fruit but I do like my tree.
Yep! You have it exactly right. Pinch off the new growth and that will encourage lateral growth and thicken the stem. What part of the world are you in? (what cold part of the world? brrr)

It's not crazy big, and didn't produce last year so I had no clue until I noticed a few pods growing and asked a neighbor about it. Can't wait to harvest some and give them out to the neighborhood! Definitely gonna try my hand at growing something else, too. Just not sure what yet. Thank you for the informative video, definitely got a sub from me!
thank you for taking the time to make a comment and I really appreciate the comment. You're going to love those mangos.
Your analogy with workers got me subscribed 💪 made me laugh pretty hard. Currently growing avocado and mango trees indoors during the cold Canadian winter.
You’re not alone there’s a few other subscribers from Canada growing tropical fruit indoors and in greenhouses. Welcome to the channel!
I love Mangos and Avocados, I found your channel and I learned from your channel a few tricks that I like.
18 years ago I grew an avocado tree from a seed. Two years ago it produced its first batch of hass avocados, they were delicious. Now you have a gift for talking and explaining all things mangos.
loved the content, so I subscribed!
Thanks for subscribing and I'm glad your tree produced good fruit. I just did a vid last week where I tasted a seed grown avocado and the bad taste is still in my mouth. 🤣
@@SleepyLizard Wow, judging by your comment on fruits that were grown from seeds, I was real lucky that after so many years waiting, the avocados that we picked were actually delicious. I just never knew that possibility.
Im in the USAF living in hawaiii, i have a neighbor with a mango tree. literally the coolest thing ever. i never been so close to a mango tree before. it so awesome. im trying to learn what i can now.
Make friends with your neighbor and you're gonna have a great summer! I get half my calories from mangos in the summertime.
These videos are really fun to watch. Great script, delivery, and production. Hope to see many more of your videos! Thanks for sharing.
thank you
GREAT
I love you! This is a fabulous video. So instructional and well presented and truly inspiring! I just subscribed to your channel and I can't wait to see the rest. Btw, my two favorite trees are the mango and avocado I planted a few years ago. I want to have five of each and now I know how I'm going to do it! Thank you thank you thank you! Anytime you happen to be visiting Clearwater, look me up!
Dana, thank you for your wonderful comment. I appreciate it. Stay close to the channel and keep us posted on your mango/avocado grove. Good luck!
@@SleepyLizard you have a gorgeous yard or Grove or whatever it is. I have a little tiny piece of heaven that used to just be St Augustine grass and sand and concrete and now it is a highly imperfect but happy jungle. One of these days maybe I'll have a decent enough video to post online. But for now I plan to stay in close touch with you. You are my new guru! 💕
Love it when Yankees come down here, and grow Yankee mangoes
How old are you?
Old enough to have a sense of humor
@@TheAnalyticalObservers nah, seriously, I'm curious
Very very helpful ! I watched this entire video. Felt like I’m in botany class
I hope you get a chance to grow some let us know if you do
ThAnk you gor your detaiiled ecplanation. You are funny too and enjoyable.
thanks for the compliment
I really enjoyed this video. It made the whole prcess, even the complicated version, seem doable. Do you plan to update us on the baby mango trees and how they're doing, what we should expect, care that needs to be done etc?
Maria, I need to do exactly what you're saying. Plant some trees and follow them over a time period.
You made this so easy for me to learn thank you! 🥭
you are welcome Elba
Best toturial on TH-cam. End of story.
wow, thanks for a great compliment.
I’ve bought your mangoes a few times and they are delicious. We started trying to grow some ourselves and are starting to get a little sprout out of the top.
Fantastic, congratulations. Keep them going!
Thank you❤ I live in colorado guess it's too cold here but I LOVE Mangos and Avocados Nice video.
yes, chilly up by you for sure. thanks for the comment.
Great video, sir….incredibly well presented. I am currently in Colombia and l plan to retire here and l am hoping to grow mangoes and other fruit here and this was very helpful. Cheers from Tulua, Colombia 🇨🇴
You’re going to love it. Best of luck. Please keep close to the channel and keep us posted on your progress.
Tom, I wanted to ask you if monoembryonic mangoes will give you the same fruit as the parent
they will not
This is an amazingly well done video ! Your oratory skills are topnotch ! :)
Thank you Alan
I leant so much form this guy. Fantastic video
thanks Mohammed!
Thank you for the detailed video. My husband an I just relocated from NY down to FL Pinellas County. We were already mango lovers and me a plant lover. Have my first seed going right now.
Welcome to Florida. Youre going to love it!
@@SleepyLizard thanks, we already do. My parents retired down here almost 10 yrs ago, so we come down often, mostly during the summer hurricane season. I do not mind the heat & humidity 1 bit as my bones have yet to be cold down here. Our first winter will be interesting but I imagine we will be nowhere as cold as we were in NY.
I love the beauty in botany and plants. You feel in touch with your soul and God when you garden.Gods creation is so fascinating. I love you Jesus Christ.❤️🕊🙏✝️
Great, down to earth explanation.
thanks for the compllment
Excellent video. Thank You... I've got a mango tree that's about 6 feet tall (that I grew from seed), but hasn't produced any fruit yet. I live in the coastal area of California. Zone 10. It's about 4 years old. I would like to graft it, but there aren't any producing mango trees around here. Any suggestions?
only thing I can think of is search the internet for an online nursery who has the type of mango graft youre looking for. I used to sell them online but not anymore.
@@SleepyLizard First method in video where you cut and pull out the seed do you need a mango graft once it becomes 2 feet tall. Thank you
i have watched many videos on how to grow mangos...this video is the best by far, thanks for the relevant info
wow, thank you for the compliment
Nice, clear and very educational presentation with good humor. this is the 4th video i watched about this topic and this is the one I subscribed to.
I appreciate the subscription and welcome to the channel!
Excellent tutorial! You are very charismatic and easy to follow. Keep up the good work!
Thank you Phthalo, I appreciate your feedback
Thanks for the great informative video!
you are welcome
I've had his avacados.
Creamy delicious and colorful. The best I've ever eaten..
You're talking about the fruit right?
I'm rewatching this just to get it right 💥💯 Mangos are life!
I can't wait until July 😋
Such well made video presentations that completely out-perform all the videos I get fed when I Google "how to grow a mango from seed". Thanks so much for enriching my life.
Ashley, I really appreciate that.
@@SleepyLizard awsome! Glad to hear it, keep it up I'll be sure to stay tuned!
Yesterday bought two 🥭 to try from the farmers market here in Texas, loved them. I was wondering how to grow them so I could have them growing from seed. Saw your video and absolutely loved the instructions from this video. I’m a new subscriber, and want you to know I have written down the process from your information.
By the way I am also growing lemons, oranges, lychees and avocados from seeds. I love growing plants, and where I live it doesn’t have too much cold here until December to March. Then starts warming up quickly by April. On the cold nights I bring them inside, my question is:
When do I need to plant them and how do I keep them from the cold since they are able to be planted outside? I live in the North Eastern part of Texas near Oklahoma.
can you google the USDA hardiness zone for your zip code and let me know what it says?
Yes definitely. Hunt County hardiness zone 8a.
@@dawnbuckner2369 that's gonna be tricky for Mango. They don't like too much time below 40F. I'm not sure if they'll survive.
If you are able to, dig a greenhouse 4-6 feet under ground and grow it in a pot in the greenhouse:)
@@SleepyLizard thank you
Awesome video, thank you! Is there a source that you can recommend to buy the cuttings to then graft onto the seedling? I watched your avocado videos, and have the same question there, too. Thanks again!
Hi Harry, I don't have a source but it's seasonal so the only thing I can think of would be to check google periodically and you'll find somebody selling online.
Up in zone 3 but very knowledgeable and entertaining. Might have to try some of these winter house plants
please tell me if you can get a mango to fruit in Canada...that would be a game changer for the great white north!
Hello I am from the Maldives. You are amazing! Was very interesting to listen to you explain the process.
thank you
I’m going to be planting my mango seed straight into the soil with the husk on how long should that take?
Mr. Banana tree, they sprout fast. Two to four weeks. I sprout mine with the husk on, it's quick.
@@SleepyLizard i live in SE NC, i get bananas about 1 year in 5. What wintering requirements are there for mangos? We get 20° F about 10 days a winter. Mostly 38° - 65° rest of the days. With lots rain...
@@georgiobenelli4854 Mangos are very sensitive to cold and there's not a cold tolerant variety of mango. Their flowers start to sustain damage at temps in the low 40s and the trees take damage at 32f. In you'd be able to keep the trees going as long as your brought them indoors during the cold but I don't think you'd be able to get fruit.
@@SleepyLizard would a greenhouse work???
@@georgiobenelli4854 I don't really know much about greenhouses but a number of subscribers are trying to get mangos to fruit in greenhouses in very cold environments. Stay close to the channel and we'll see what happened.
I lived in Florida all my life and have never seen a mango that huge!!! Wow!!! Nectarines and mangos truly are 2 of my favorites...loved your video! I have a mango tree growing doesn't require much, I tried to fertilize it and it was none too happy. It's still hanging in there. I'm looking into Bonsai so that i can keep it. Unsure of what species it is.
Thank you for your comment and best of luck with your tree
Must be nice to live in an area that mangos will grow.
I live in that state of India which has the best mangoes in the world....The Alphonso mangoes. I love strawberries too....now just multiply the best strawberry you've ever eaten by 10..... You get the Devgad and Ratnagiri Mango variety! It's heavenly.... Great informative video by sleepy lizard by the way! Perfectly narrated!👍

You are an excellent story teller! Well done and greetings from Estonia, where Mango's can only grow indoors.
Hi Muusika, you are only the second Estonian I've ever spoken to.
Thanks for the info! Germinating my first mango now :D
Yes!
Squirrels eat the ripe part of a mango before it falls to the ground. So I pick them semi ripe, put them in a paper bag till ripened. Delicious!
I take care of the squirrels 😉
So IF I find a mango tree that grows good fruit, can I use any small branch from it?
Roseanne, You want to pick a nice new green branch with a little horn of growth on the top that's about to push through.
I learned a lot from your presentation. you are incredible.public speaker. U are capable, when it comes to grafting. I planted avacado tree i mearly cut down the tree. 10 yrs i enjoyed the fruits.
yum

Wow, thank you for the compliment Trung!!
my dad at his work at a nursery he has like 10 mango trees
he's lucky, mangos are good
Excellent demonstration! Great instruction!
thanks
I just planted my seed yesterday and hopefully it'll grow bigger and give me somefruit
best of luck
(what cold part of the world? brrr)
I'm doing the same thing but want to eventually move to south Florida so I can have tropical fruits.
@@RetzeSantos We'll be here waiting for ya!
I’ve tried many times to grow a mango from a seed and had no luck. After watching this video I’m going to try the Mother Nature route and see how that goes. Great video! Thank you
Hi Johan, best of luck with the tree and stay close to the channel and let us know how it goes!
Hey Johan! The issue might be that your mangos 🥭 are irradiated if you aren't getting your seeds from a local source. Most imports are heated which kills the seed if they're imported
that zoom at 6 minutes or so damn cracked me up !!
Good on ya mate, good video to teach us these tricks, and your example with the good and bad workers was funny but very clear I wish I could do it with my sons. Thanks for your time.

Cool, fun seed planting video, thank you!🏝️
do you think you might try it?
Hello, I have a question. You graft your mango plant with a branch from other tree, but we don’t have any other tree. How can I graft.
Please reply.
Thanks
Salem, if you can't find any local there are people who sell cuttings online
In the tropics, to plant a mango, I ate the flesh, toss the seed pod onto the trash heap and voila, 3 weeks later I noticed mango leaves starting to appear.
Yep I talk to a lot of people who found trees sprouted in their compost heap
i just tossed my mango seed at a pot where i grow Calamansi , and then it Sprouted , so i putted at bigger pot , now its sitting at a pot over 4 bodies now and the main body is almost 2 floors high now
My family roots are from Scranton. We have been in South Florida for nearly 50 years. Growing mangos and avocados now, but still learning , glad to have found you. Will be buying some varieties which ripen at different times. May be able to trade you a Hatcher.
Sounds good. You ancestors would have referred to a bell pepper as a "mango"...they still label them that way at the supermarket up there.
You are so clear and easy to understanding. TY. Good steps and explanations.
thank you Sam
