I like that you don't take it for granted or feel entitled about someone subscribing but man, don't sell yourself short -- your channel and content is awesome! And I am glad to have found you like 14 episodes ago (and watched from the beginning); not my first comment either. Kind of feel invested in your journey now and can't see what else you will be up to and how this dream unfolds. Stay safe and adventurous (within reason) and just waiting for that next video to drop. You are an inspiration, thank you for taking the time to share this adventure with us! V. from Estonia.
That was a lynx, they look similar from a distance, but there are differences. Distribution is the key indicator, no bobcats that far north, the snows too deep for their shorter legs. Bobcats inhabit the interior of BC with Prince George being the essential limit of their traditional northern range. Whereas lynx range throughout the Yukon and NWT. A tip, instead of riding directly at the animal next time, appearing as the scariest predator imaginable for a new born wild creature. Swing wide and encourage them on their established path with your direction and position. Watch a herding dog at work, you'll get the idea. Otherwise if you can, stop well ahead and give them the room they need to their own thing. While you do yours and film them. OK, off of my soapbox now. 😉 FYI - Una Moto is my top program of interest currently. So very much looking forward to future episodes. Enjoy! 🙂
When I rode my bicycle to Alaska in 70 or 71 the pavement ended at mile 54 of the Alaska highway near Fort St. John BC. It was dirt road until I hit Whitehorse.
So crazy! I was watching you hand pump and was thinking of my last 4 years as a bicycle courier and having to use a compact hand pump until a couple of months ago when I bought a miniature compressor. I thought about suggesting the compressor and then that dude pulled the same one out of his car! I swear by the thing and have used it multiple times and not had to charge it again yet. Mind you I haven't had any major flats and have only had to go up a couple of pounds but still a great unit. I highly suggest and I'm sure you had that thing in your hand to know that it only weighs about 2 lb. Thanks again for being part of my morning routine now! Safe travels, Sir!
Your van life and MTB experience has made you very handy. You took care of that tire swap and oil change with much fewer issues than I would have encountered. Keep up the great work and be safe.
Canadian Tire wouldn’t be itself without someone doing mechanical repairs in the parking lot. That day, you were that guy, way to represent, man. If you’ve not discovered them yet, find yourself some “Rokstraps”. By far the best for securing loads. And yeah, bro, you need a compressor, worth their weight in gold.
Most definately get a usb rechargable air pump, about 30 bucks and you're golden. Much better than pumps that use a cigarette lighter plug as those can get hot and blow fuses, the rechargable type dont get as warm and do just as good of a job. And yeah, rocstraps.
I swapped the starter of a '95 Dodge Avenger in the parking lot of a Canadian Tire. "Bring the old one back within a month to get your core charge refunded." "I'll be back in five minutes."
Extra oil changes certainly won't hurt , Eric ! Small engine with wet clutch and alot of weight to get moving on hard terrain etc clutch deposits will blacken the oil a bit quicker than the average 90% road rider. If you need to move loose tyres a short distance at low speed you can wear them like hula hoops 😂😂 works surprisingly well if you just need to take em down the road a short ways.
Greatly enjoying your videos, even a more "mundane" one like this without the epic drone shots but instead showing the reality of life on the road. Keep up the good work!!
The new tyres will be a game changer off road. I have a KLX and have found the AX41 bridgestone is also good for 50:50 use on this bike when you also have a tarmac/ dirt mix.
If you can see the lines on the road for the loop sensors, stop with the wheels right on top of the lines (or do what I do and move up to the pushbike sensors) The sensors can still pick up bikes, but they do need the sensitivity to be correct... parking with they tyres right over the lines makes sure they can pick up the metal in the wheels (or the steel belt in the tyres) so it does work with tubeless alloy wheels too
Like the speed of those tyre changes, I assume you will be a jack of all that's motorbike when this adventure is done. I know you have straps but cable might come in handy if a clutch cable should break, it more than often is the knuckle on the handle bar that breaks off. If that happens turn the cable around and put the other knuckle in the handle and use the extra cable to tie onto the clutch lever on the clutch cover. Great Adventure so far.
I would bet that is a Lynx. They can both be somewhat that colour in summer coat but the ears and shape of long lanky body/legs etc looks very Lynx to me. Great thing to get to witness so close by ❤
Wow! Lucky encounter! I disassembled the pump out of one of those Slime auto pump housings. Plugged the hose end that goes to the built-in pressure gauge. Then butt connected a fast disconnect. The pump is small enough to fit underneath my seat, weighs almost nothing, and can be connected to my battery charger plug. The pump gets hot, so I added a carabiner that can be clipped to a spoke or off the bike. Just run the engine while inflating. Cheap and tiny!
I am Mtn Biker from Cumberland grew up in Surrey now living off grid on the sunshine coast. I have been loving the videos. I will be hitting the road on my CFR300 Rally This spring
hi Eric, think about install a new oil filter too ! Or at list you can soak the old one in a small jar with a cap, filled w/fuel. Shake the whole "installation" & rinse the filter. You can finish it by blow some air at the BACK of the filter : the air & particles got to escape from out through the folds of the paper. It's like to clean by blowing a air paper filter : always blows backwards of the normal air flow. Bonne Chance.
Hi Eric, I have a little tip for you. The tyre valve and the coloured circle(spot) on the side of the tyre should line up. This is usually white or yellow (18:13). These markings are there to determine the best alignment of the valve. Great driving, keep it up!
you're a f'in hero eric, keep it up fella - glad you did the oil as i know i asked you quite a few episodes ago - look after the bike, the bike looks after you
Hey Eric, great vid. For your next rear tire look into the Motoz Mountain Hybrid. Ive been running them for years on my 340 KLX, long lasting with great offroad traction.
dude, canadians and/or the mentality is so nice- no way a guy in a jet wash facility in England is going to offer you to use his own air pump, that is battery powered, to fill YOUR tyre, that will not happen here - wow
I wanted to see Whitehorst. What a city it is. Because I've seen a lot about Parker Schnabel and Rick Ness Gold Rush. Looks like a beautiful Canadian city.
I actually think you were correct saying a Lynx. They will have longer back legs than front legs and have an arched back where as a bobcat's legs are more proportional and will have a flat back. Both cats can have a wide variety of coats so its not always a good indicator.
w/13k kms between flushes oil U got to put very Hi'Quality oil !! a 100% synthetic one with A.P.I. norm "SN" (not only "synthetic" which mean "blended" bases, nor half S'). 13k kms interval is ok for road use, but w/off road use is good to cut in half intervals. Have a check on the idle RPMs : it seems a bit hi' to me. Dont forget to check for un-tighten wheels spokes too !
I'm enjoying following you, especially 'cause you're from Abbotsford close to Kamloops where I'm based. I am curious as to when you left abbotsford and actually started up north as the lack of snow kind of hinted that you didn't leave before late May at the earliest? Keep on "truckin" so to speak, you're doing a great job of it!!
That's a great tire combo. The 605 you were running are a pretty good 50/50 set. Sorta small dimensions to run on a KLR sized bike. But I also only got around 5500km. My favorite travel set is a k270 rear and kenda Millville 2 front now. I have a Mitas Stoneking on the rear now, it's very tall and aggressive. Figuring out what works is part of the fun✌

Kluane National Park is mind blowing. I'm going to assume that will be part of the next video.

I've been listening to that poor engine. I have a Suzuki V-strom 250SX which isn't sold in North America to my Knowledge, but also has a noisy little single. It used to make the same sort of sound. even with fresh oil from the place I brought the bike from... but I changed where I got the service done. I'm sure the new place used a different oil. because it doesn't make such a horrible racket anymore. A friend with the same bike thought it might have been quieter than his because I use a Higher octane than what he uses (which is likely as that can have an effect too) but it stopped making the "banging" noise after the oil was changed at a different shop. Hopefully you get the same thing with fresh oil. That friend with the same bike, had a Mitas E07 Enduro fitted to his bike too. It feels great on gravel, much better than Mine. But I will be waiting to see who's tyre needs replacing first before I decide if I get some of the same, My Pirelli MT60 has a 4000km head start, so If his tyre is still in good nick when I need a new one then I'll probably get a Mitas E07 enduro too. but if it has poor life, then I don't know
about size for your bike (& others !) NEVER NEVER put a bigger size at RR (or FRT too!) : its a completely huge hoax to think it 'll bring more gripp /more power to pass to the road ! It'll eat power & make bike less nimble in tight &changing corners. The only downsizing to do could be for FRT wheel when U fill the front handling a bit "truckish" ^^ . Anyway : stay with RR tire oem size. Then, w/a big RR tire, if the chain is not long enough, it could be get trapped at the FRT of the rear fork suspension, & it could sometimes "eat" the splash protector of the RR shock absorber.
I've never seen a lynx, but I've seen several bobcats. That didn't look like any of the bobcats I've seen, too tall, too skinny. Maybe cats are different up north, but I think that was a lynx.
I agree it's a lynx. The butt is held higher in the air than the front shoulders as it runs across the highway and the longer back legs are both telltale signs of a lynx. Probably a younger female. A bobcat seen up in the Yukon would be quite rare as it is well north of their known range (although they are moving north).
I assume you set your front tire up tubeless again, and I also understand that you have gotten a lot farther than what we’re watching, but you should throw some sealant into the tube of your rear tire for extra protection! Love the content, keep it up!
