I have been riding roads like this for longer than she has been alive and I am in awe of her skills-skills which are as apparent even on some of the less intimidating circumstances. And that’s it. You dare not go faster than you can instantly recognize and assess every threat. This woman is utterly amazing. Forget gender. Find me a man who faces daily the host of threats, large and small, and surmounts them, that this woman does. She is without peer.

Unbelievable how she navigates through all of this despite language barriers and lack of knowledge of local customs. All done in the most benevolent manner possible! Noraly's travels and interactions with the locals brings home the message that kindness and generosity can be found in every single country on the planet, but if we listen to the politicians and the media, a more grim and cynical picture is painted, including stereotyping whole people's. Noraly really is an ambassador for all that is good in our species and she deserves to be internationally recognized for her breaking down cultural barriers and showing us how we can all approach life with an open mind and a kind heart. That broken tank bolt was not a small problem! If Noraly had not gotten it fixed right away the tank could have gotten a hole in it or even worse, split open. That would have been a disaster. The mechanic did a great job of digging that bolt out. The resourcefulness of the Kurdistan people amazes me. They see a problem, they figure it out and they fix it.

If you get a piece of flexible hose and with your bike at idle, hold one end to your ear and move the hose around the bike touching the engine, and other places where a vibration may come from like the bolt, you will hear it.

It is safe to travel but trust me, coming from Holland makes transit a lot easier getting across borders and through checkpoints than saying you come from the UK or USA in places like Iraq. Attitude and the sheer guts on display from Itchy Boots goes a long way and we can all learn from her. I have always found the real people of any country to be always welcoming and gracious.
