Only accept retcons that have enough thought behind them that they don't destroy the rest of it. A good example is the War Doctor in Doctor Who; whilst he was never brought up before the 50th anniversary, the show had never definitively stated _which_ Doctor had fought in the Time War, with the audience assuming it was either the Eighth or Ninth Doctors. Even then, the writers took the time to explain that the reason the War Doctor hadn't been mentioned was because the Doctor wanted to distance himself as much as possible from the actions he took during the War. Retcons aren't bad on their own, but the issue comes from writers not putting in the effort to make them fit the already-established lore.

Someone like Cavell should attempt this. Gamers frequently force the hand of developers through processes like review bombing, we'll see how HD2 plays out. Last year Warthunder learnt it's leason. Well said, thats why I hate when anything gets too popular and I am a firm advocate for gatekeeping. Once its becomes popular is when the dregs show up and ruin everything because they are just jumping on the bandwagon of whatever is getting attention at the moment and they abandon it as soon as something new gets attention. True fans who have love and passion for a certain thing are what makes it great and as soon as the sheep herd shows up everything goes to shit. I was treated like a freak for loving fantasy media, swords, armor, magic and all the good stuff as far back as a young child. I loved scifi and fantasy stuff like starwars, lord of the rings, DnD, WH40K and all that jazz even when it wasn't cool and during the days when you got ostracized for being a nerd and trust me all the "cool kids" made sure to let me know that I wasn't going to be allowed to be different without paying a high price for it but since I had a spine and a mind of my own I didn't back down and conform to their idea of cool and guess what? Turns out I was into all the "cool stuff" long before game of thrones made swords and armor cool. I love seeing how hobbies like archery, knife and axe throwing and sword fighting and blacksmithing are just so popular nowadays and all the assholes who criticized people like me are sooooooo interested in all this stuff now, because its now cool and every sheep who literally got into a hobby because Jason Mamoa throws axes as a hobby and now all the "Alpha males" put down their footballs and took a break from getting sweaty and hugging each other long enough to do "alpha male shit". I had the same prediction. If Warhammer wants to remain its own niche away from the normal woke stuff, it should simply stop having any interaction with the mainstream.
There's a flaw in amazon's plan if that's the case. If you alienate the fans and make them hate you. Even when you turn heel a decade later and start producing lore-accurate content, no one is going to consume it. You told them you hate them and they reciprocated by leaving you and finding new hobbies. A ton of work for little payoff when all that time could have been spent building a loyal fanbase.

With GW, the thing is different because a good chunk of the community doesn't care about the lore, they just want to paint the minis and play the table top. You might hear some complaints about the new codexi being ass (I've been told 10th edition Custodes is the case), but they won't bother with the fluff behind their game.

I mean just look at PC gaming: pro and semi-pro players are fun to watch and thus promote your game, however as a targeted customer base alone it's financially not feasible since they make a small percentage of the scene as a whole. Going the route as out layed by the former Epic executive would mean to first disenfranchise the broader baseline, which you then would have to re-engage with while alienating the unwanted 'modern audience' in the meantime. All of that can only lead in the mid- and longterm to a perfect storm, with bad press, public outrage and investors questioning the companies decision making as it's now happening with Disney and their purchase and handling of the Star Wars franchise.
@@bulvan1323 well, that goes right against what GW heads think. They focus first and foremost on how to sell their minis, and I don't see them changing that mindset any time soon. Otherwise, you'd see them promoting the books more, promoting the games, but their main revenue is the minis. And screwing up their fans is practically the modus operandi with GW. The players just... roll over with whatever they do. They can kitbash or 3D print, it will be business as usual. Trust me, I was hoping to see some energy from the fandom, but a lot of them are quite apathetic, if not jaded by how GW handles both the lore and the minis.
Say there's 10 bars in town. You own 9 of them. The other one is thriving and on the rise. If you buy that bar and make it a worse place, your 9 other bars will turn in more profits. This is only the money side of things. The real deal isn't money here. 40k got more attention in the last decade, wich is mostly due to other franchises being wokified. I got into Warhammer very heavily about 6 months ago. I don’t play the tabletop, but I got extremely invested into the lore and know it like the back of my hand now (particularly the Horus Heresy). I know all the factions and the history behind the universe. I’ve read multiple novels and played the video games. I subscribed to WarhammerTV and Warhammer+. I recommended Warhammer to other people that I thought would be interested. Hell, I even got my wife into it and she loves it too. I was so excited that I finally found an IP that I was really drawn to, especially since my other favorite IP was absolutely destroyed by trying to placate the “modern audience” (Star Wars). But god forbid that anything good and entertaining exists without being molested by these people. They have literally ruined most of the great IPs from my and many others’ childhoods and don’t seem like they will slow down anytime soon. It has nothing to do with them wanting “representation”. It’s simply a power play just to say screw you to those whom they perceive as their enemy. These companies that continue to bend the knee to these tyrannical morons are lost causes. I’m so sick of this shit.

I love seeing how hobbies like archery, knife and axe throwing and sword fighting and blacksmithing are just so popular nowadays and all the assholes who criticized people like me are sooooooo interested in all this stuff now, because its now cool and every sheep who literally got into a hobby because Jason Mamoa throws axes as a hobby and now all the "Alpha males" put down their footballs and took a break from getting sweaty and hugging each other long enough to do "alpha male shit". There's a flaw in amazon's plan if that's the case. If you alienate the fans and make them hate you. Even when you turn heel a decade later and start producing lore-accurate content, no one is going to consume it. I mean just look at PC gaming: pro and semi-pro players are fun to watch and thus promote your game, however as a targeted customer base alone it's financially not feasible since they make a small percentage of the scene as a whole. Going the route as out layed by the former Epic executive would mean to first disenfranchise the broader baseline, which you then would have to re-engage with while alienating the unwanted 'modern audience' in the meantime. All of that can only lead in the mid- and longterm to a perfect storm, with bad press, public outrage and investors questioning the companies decision making as it's now happening with Disney and their purchase and handling of the Star Wars franchise.

And screwing up their fans is practically the modus operandi with GW. The players just... roll over with whatever they do. They can kitbash or 3D print, it will be business as usual. Trust me, I was hoping to see some energy from the fandom, but a lot of them are quite apathetic, if not jaded by how GW handles both the lore and the minis.

What pisses me off is they already have two insane factions that have women in them. Sisters of silence and nuns with guns. Both of them are awesome factions and I really like them. My 10 year old daughter loves sisters of battle. but nope, those are two religious and the sisters of silence aren’t empowering enough. With one poor decision I canceled all of my GW orders and will not support them anymore.
Not only that, but EVERY OTHER MAINLINE FACTION (with exception of Space Marines, and until recently, Custodes) is completely gender neutral.

@@shadowjack239 once they were 'forced' into following the timeline created for MechWarrior Dark Age I found it stupid and lost interest. MechWarrior Dark Age was a version of Mage Knight so they had to screw with the universe to make it fit that game style. IMO Anything before 3070ish is fine.

40k was better as a niche hobby
I got into Warhammer very heavily about 6 months ago. I don’t play the tabletop, but I got extremely invested into the lore and know it like the back of my hand now (particularly the Horus Heresy). I know all the factions and the history behind the universe. I’ve read multiple novels and played the video games. I subscribed to WarhammerTV and Warhammer+. I recommended Warhammer to other people that I thought would be interested. Hell, I even got my wife into it and she loves it too. I was so excited that I finally found an IP that I was really drawn to, especially since my other favorite IP was absolutely destroyed by trying to placate the “modern audience” (Star Wars). But god forbid that anything good and entertaining exists without being molested by these people. They have literally ruined most of the great IPs from my and many others’ childhoods and don’t seem like they will slow down anytime soon. It has nothing to do with them wanting “representation”. It’s simply a power play just to say screw you to those whom they perceive as their enemy. These companies that continue to bend the knee to these tyrannical morons are lost causes. I’m so sick of this shit.
