It's worth saying again: I'm a woman. I played 40K in the late 90s early 00s. I have played video games forever, and online games almost from the start. (I was there when WoW started back in 2004 and played up until the pandas turned playable). I have RARELY encountered any kind of sexist BS these women go on about. On those rare occasions when I do, I come up with something to sling right back. It's almost as if you want to "play with the big boys, you have to get good at their game", and I don't mean the video kind :) Works in real life too. Then again, I'm not a victim so... 🤷♀

Main problems with their claim:
1) He doesn't have a family/clan name.
2) He wasn't adopted by any of the Oda Samurai retainers.
3) He just a Sword Bearer, Personal Bodyguard at best.
4) He wasn't part of the Oda's war campaign.
5) His first & last recorded combat experience in Japan was during the Honnoji incident.
6) Akechi Mitsuhide doesn't consider him as a Samurai at the Honnoji incident.
7) He didn't stay in Japan that long to be noteworthy, given how he's just a footnote.
Yasuke's closer to Tokichiro a Sandal Bearer's rank, not a Samurai but close to becoming one.
Tokichiro eventually changed his name after becoming a full pledge Samurai retainer of the Oda Clan to Hashiba Hideyoshi (Eventually known as Toyotomi Hideyoshi).
Tokichiro is an Ashigaru (Foot Soldier), him being a Sandal Bearer of Oda mean he's just a higher ranked Ashigaru (Foot Soldier).
When I was looking at the comments from Ubisoft Japan one of the comments said the Yasuke was a kosho or a squire for a good comparison and Samurai was lord but some dummy mistranslated and fused Bushi(warrior social class) and Samurai(high position) together.

We Don't reject Black main characters, **We reject You as a game developer twisting your own Lore and Stories to Inject DEI into it.** Assassins Creed Shadows is based in Japan. We want a Japanese main character just like all the other assassins creed games, where the protagonist matches the setting. When you make an Assassins Creed Game based in Africa, we will gladly play with black main characters, because that's how the franchise works. Just Imagine what a blast it would be to play a Black tribal assassin in Africa fighting the black slaver tribes and Dutch slavers in the 1600's. The depth and breadth of available story options in there are HUGE. We just refuse DEI we don't care WHAT color you paint it.

They got close but they completely botched that up too with that ridiculous Women King movie. It would have been so cool if this game outing was based in Sub-Saharan empires. And as much as I don't think that wouldn't bother any normal person, I think having to grapple with the historical realities of sub-Saharan Africa would contradict the worldviews of the kind of people who work at Ubislop much more than they're comfortable with, so they probably avoid even thinking about it.

Actually we did criticize Origins for the demographics of the characters they went with. Egypt, along with most of north Africa back then was largely part of the larger European sphere. The Hellenistic Greeks occupied most of the coastal areas. Egypt itself was not Arab or anything along those lines, it was only much later that Arab invasion occurred. Many of the mummies they were digging up, at least for the upper class, had red hair for example.
A better setting for Africa with a black man as an assassin, would be to involve the mix of Arab and African "kingdoms" which sprang up from their interactions. Entire slave kingdoms popped up, emulating the Arabs, and trading with them for Arab weapons and other items. The Arabs as well formed a slave trade based on those people, which had a ton of tribal conflict between groups. It would have been the perfect setting for a black assassin.

When they say that this 50% of gaming is women, they're getting that 50% when they include games such as Candy Crush, another cell phone, and tablet based games. Personally, as a PC Gamer, I don't recognize those as actual games, nor can they even be put into the same category as console and PC gaming. When you remove those particular numbers well under 50% for them.

And for me personally I don't consider those real gaming, games you can't really let those same games in with PC and console games. I'm friends with quite a few female Gamers that can kick butt specially in an FPS game, and then I know some that are just terrible at it but they're better at role playing games or in MMO so.

I think what gets me mad about yasuke isnt that hes playable, or black. Its the fact that Ubisoft brought out the woke check box and figured "hey japan had a black dude that one time. Lets make him a protagonist". They dont do it for the story, or the historical accuracy. They do it because itll look good on them. Its a FORCED use of black involvement. I think thats what troubles me.and that goes for all diversity related things. Its never for plot, or making use of our differences of ethnicities strengths and weaknesses, if your a person of color, then you're nothing but a box to be checked. That's exactly what the problem is. For the Gears of War example, I'm sure nobody would have minded if we played a female protagonist, it would have given a chance to see the Fenix storyline from an *outside* perspective. That would have been perfectly fine, if only they had done it in a good way instead of with lazy writing and shit.
My problem with all of this "diversity" BS isn't the BS itself, but what comes *along* with the BS. It's like how propane and natural gas doesn't have a smell by itself, but they mix in an oderant so you can tell when there's a gas leak. The problem isn't the *smell* the problem is the gas. In this case, the smell of warning is an over-emphasis on diversity and identity politics. The actual *problem* is lazy writing that comes from "writers" who got the job due to their connections and political affiliations rather than because they're the most qualified for the job.

With the quality and affordability of 3D printing, Games Workshop is only in business because their customers WANT to give them money. I don't play the game but I've seen the prices in the game stores. Someone could probably buy a excellent printer for less than one army of official plastic.

I am 0% interested in a Warhammer series that Henry bails out on. I watched the Witcher degrade and lose it's soul, and was saddened to hear how hard he fought a losing battle to save it from "Modern Audiences Theory" of cinema.

Worth noting Naoe is supposedly the daughter of Fujibayashi Nagato. Issue being he only had a son IRL, so they've not only replaced a Japanese male main character as a protag, they've also genderswapped one for no apparent reason.
Furthermore one of the historical consultants for Shadows is a MAP who wrote a book about 'boy love'. I don't think I need to go further on that.

The biggest issue I have with Yasuke being the main protagonist in this game is assassins are supposed to blend into the crowd. They’re supposed to be nameless and faceless to the public. A shadow or ghost that appears briefly to take out a target and then disappears. Yasuke would stand out like a sore thumb in this environment. He would have zero anonymity and wouldn’t be able to go anywhere without being noticed. It takes you out of the immersion. The surrounding characters would have to be completely dumbed down and pretend like they don’t see him. It doesn’t make sense. The fact he’s a real person makes it even worse in my opinion. Why can’t we have a Japanese assassin, a fictional character who is unknown to the pubic, in an assassin game set in Japan? We’re just talking about common sense at this point.

I mean, both were arguably the worst AC installments.
However, NOT because of the characters. Both Aveline and Adewale were interesting, original, and fun to play as (especially Aveline who had 2 different infiltration modes). It's the other aspects of the games that were lazy and rehashed from their better counterparts (AC3 and Black Flag respectively). And we all know why: any criticism of these particular games could be debunked by "you hate a game with a black protagonist, you're racist!" (I actually had a conversation just like that after I SPECIFICALLY emphasized how I liked Adewale in Freedom Cry and just disliked everything else). That's a gamedev easy mode when they don't have enough time/resources/talent to deliver quality products.
Calling it now, the same will happen with Shadows, it will be a weak, unoriginal downgrade of a game with rehashed ideas but Yasuke's presence will again allow them to silence critics with istophobe articles in Kotaku and IGN.

A samurai is not a classes like warrior, theft or sorcerer etc, it is actually a noble title like Sir or Knight in western middle age. They have lands, family name, servants, war experience and even the heirs have to train under certain traditional samurai educational course in order to be accepted as a samurai, normal civilian is nearly impossible to gain the title unless they get adopted into a samurai families, like Hideyoshi. Yasuke however, as a trade slave and his rank even lower than ordinary house servant, will NEVER EVER able to reach the samurai title. So, setting up a slave to be a noble and ignoring the history its literally disrespect the culture, that's why Japanese people are so mad
If they presented Yasuke like Adewale and don't lying about his history, people definitely wouldn't be so pissed, especially Japanese people

What I like is that, at least to my memory, Adewale was a pretty well liked character if I’m correct. To go even further, people liking Adewale disproves the whole, “ gamers only like playing as white men”, because there’s a dlc for Black flag where you play as Adewale through the entire dlc and people gave it fairly good reviews.
Yasuke was a samurai. Oda Nobunaga gave him two swords (a symbol of samurai status) and also gave him a Japanese wife. This is a historically verified fact.
Ps: This happened because Nobunaga was known to not give a shit about tradition. He even elevated a commoner to the status of Samurai, and that commoner later became the second great unifer of Japan

I'm a new "gamer" and I'm asking this question just for understanding (not argument)....
Could a solution be that games just allow each person to design their own avatar/character?
If each person could just design who they would like to play as, wouldn't that make everyone "happy" sort of? If I'd like to play as a Japanese male in whatever game, I can. If I'd like to play as a Native American female in whatever game, I can. That way, I get to play how I like and I don't have to be worried or bothered by what character anyone else would like to play as?
For me, they are all just games based in all types of nonsensical fantasy.....none of it is real. So why does it have to be so serious?
AC Shadows could have led a bigger impact on fans if they did what other AC games did
Play characters who would most likely be in the region and are nobodies who didn't make it to the history book
The male and female characters of shadows (since they're historical figures) would have worked better as allies or enemy npc
Playing as a Shinobi or Samurai in the assassin order would be cool
Also let's hope unlike AC Syndicate, we can play any mission without character requirement like with the Evie and Jacob missions
Yasuke could be in shadows but not playable. We should never play historical characters, Leonidas was playable in the beginning of Odyssey yes but it was one moment in something he was famous for so it’s ok
Couldn't they have pulled a cool side character like how they did Leonardo Davinci and his mission. Yasuke could've been a cool interaction with the main character seeing a foreigner let alone a black man for the first time. This could've been cool but this is Ubisoft we are talking about
Don't have any hopes for this. I am pretty certain both characters have different storylines overall (heard it from an actual german journalist, not a Murican activist). So you either play the female Shinobi story, or Yasuke story. Not to mention the Shinobi is AC style gameplay and Yasuke will be the "fight in your face" gameplay. I doubt you can play all missions because of this by default.
It’s funny that journalists think fans hate Yasuke cuz of “racism”. Fans had wanted a Japan AC game for YEARS and for them to just go “Hey you play Yasuke! Cuz we want more INCLUSION!” Is a pretty shitty move, especially considering they ALREADY had black AC protagonists in previous titles so there’s very little reason to go with Yasuke. He could’ve been an npc and no one with be upset with it at all.

I know I might not be the “target audience” here, but “Assassins Creed: Origins” was literally the first Assassins Creed game that I bought after the very first one!!! I’m not going to go into all the details because that would take forever, but I will say there was something I didn’t like at all while I was playing the original game! And I saw it in the adds and/or watching TH-camrs playing them for all the rest afterwards! But there was so much I liked that I saw and none of my issues with it for Origins!!!
