Clem Clempson - among the most underated lead guitarists ... one of the best .. he's the one w/ the white Strat and glasses ... as the Steveguion said above.. it doesn't matter the age - if ya rock ... it don't matter !!
RIP Greg Ridley...simply one of the best Blues-Rock Bassist of all time. Also an excellent vocalist! Soo much talent in this band! (Got to hang with Jerry Shirley after a show in 1995...very polite man!)
I gotta agree. Everytime I hear the Fillmore version and now this one, chills run down my spine. Not a better live kick ass guitar song has ever been recorded. Nice to see Peter and Clem playing together for the first time.
And back in the days when HP was playing it, they would crank their Marshalls up to ten, control the volume from the guitar and just let fly...like standing next to a bomb, frightening!
Great video - I startedd listening to HP from the beginning-- now there was a REAL rock band. They played like an orchestra played - meaning each player did their part, in unison. Steve and PF were like "one flesh"..like a perfect marriage. I later met PF and he tunred me on to Django Reinhardt - how I would love to jam with PF today!
I saw HP at Bill Grahams Old Waldorf in San Francisco back in 81 as well. They were touring for the album with the cover "All Shook up" on it. Was about 10 feet from Steve. Those guy's pounded all hour and a half. Totally under rated
I was there too! Came up from San Jose to see many shows at the Fillmore West. Man that was a long time ago. I was 17 at the time with my good ol' VW bug.
in this months Esquire there is an article where the author says when someone asks him what kind of music he likes, he always replies the first 14 seconds of this song on the Fillmore album is as good as it gets.
Ha! I have that version on my iPod. ( Which is out of commission at the moment). Pretty sure its Marriot says, " We're leaving tomorrow, but it ain't half been a gas! It's really been a gas!"
yessssssssss!!!!!!!Les Paul classic, got a '94 re issue of a '59, BAAD mutha fuka. Actually, Tom Sholtz of Boston inspired me to Gibsons in the first place
Yes ole Steve was pretty good. Too bad he had to leave us at such an early age. Some of my best friends, that were a LOT cooler than me, are in the transitional status with Steve. I'm just glad I can hear this song again, live, with somebody that is alive now that I shared breath life with 37 years ago.
I'd agree it sounds 'sharper' than stevie's vid here but I did see Humble Pie at the London Palladium in the 70's,my first gig and I still get goose bumps thinking about that night. Steve Marriot spanking a cherry red sunburst les paul and po going backwards,ah, rock ain fahkin roll heh heh
It would be hard to match Marriott's vocals on just about any Pie tune. This is actually a pretty good version though. Pretty tough guitar tone on the intro. Is that Dave Clempson on the other side of the stage?
About your comment...How stupid! They are both great guitarists! And, yes, Frampton is influenced by jazz players as well as blues, country and rock. Get a clue.
If you are younger than this song o15 1971 past, then there's hope for this world! Rock on, all you young guitar heros of our present and future!!

I heard about this performance before Greg Ridley pass away. Thanks for posting this!

What an opening riff!!
Stevie`s voice ... Frampton`s guitar ..the best combination in music history without a doubt
I saw Humble Pie at the Fillmore West in 1971 now that was the real fuckin deal all the original members!
Peter Frampton is amazing and very under-rated player.Great version of great song..
Great stuff. Not bad for a bunch of old pros. Maybe we'll be able to see the entire song sometime...
Frampton's vocals don't come near Steve Marriott's on this song.
But the guitars are still rockin' it pretty fine!
RIP Steve.

Beautifulllllllllllll
rock on, Frampton!!! nice axe...
I like how it starts with Framptons guitar and then the other lead guitarist kicks in a bit lower. Great!
how so very cool. i'd love to hear their version.

Just imagine if Frampton and Marriott would have stayed together..........
no pickups
he has humbuckers on his strat
who is the other guitarist!!??
Clem Clempson. He was Frampton’s original replacement in Humble Pie.

...nevermind, I found it.
I don't need no doctor, just a long blonde wig!
