I like how you treat people who may have a problem Under your warranty. And how you're open About the cars you sell and their faults. It inspires confidence in making me want to buy from you
As an ex BMW Mini service manager i wouldn't advise anyone to buy one, they are probably the most problematic car ever produced. The warrant claims on these were endless, i got sworn at, even threatened, even my company Mini broke down with various problems on several occasions. Needless to say i didn't stay long. And a word of warning from people i know still at BMW, even the latest Mini although improved still suffers numerous problems.
Thanks for the advice. I will never buy a Mini. I’m an ex motorcycle service manager and respect your opinion. There will be plenty of nuggets on here who will claim to have owned one for 150k with no problem, probably telling porkies 😂😂 Don’t ever buy a KTM motorcycle they are from the same ilk!😮😮
Yup. Solid truth. Sensible traders. Ones not specialising on Minis. Don’t need the hassle selling them. So largely don’t. The one time exceptional often comes back and bites. And that’s just the one
Just got shot of our mini cooper coup, also had a water leak in passenger footwell. Module was damaged and all sorts of electrical issues. Nothing but trouble with it, thank god its gone. Had two min's, never gain 😅
Hello from Ireland again, Lee. Believe it or not, but I fell in love with that Mini, when I first saw it, lol. You think I'm Crazy, Lee. You do have a lovely bit of Stock in at the minute. Wicked video as always, Lee. Great Work. 🙏🙏👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I had same with that engine, I did same as you, I finally thought it was low oil pressure not working the solinoids, vanos wheels and chain tentioner properly, tbh I sold it off cheap and the guy ran it for 2 years, he just ignored the messages, I now check for those engines in various cars and don't buy them, I find it's just simpler to avoid the troublesome engines.
I had a Vauxhall that was a nightmare, basically gave it away just to get rid of it, bumped into the buyer a few years later and he said it was the most reliable car he'd ever had!
Wife had an accident and wrote off our volvo 480 but it took months for them to pay up. So I cleaned out our account to buy a Metro so I could get to work! It got every problem imaginable and I replaced loads of parts myself. But the one problem that defeated me was that when you went over a bump, the axle would pull out disconnecting the wheels from the engine. Stopping and rocking the car would fix it, but it was dodgey to drive. I realised it was the Hydrogas suspension and regassed it myself but the only way it would not happen was if the ride was rock hard. Finally the money came through and I sold it to a local mechanic who did up a few cars as I didnt want to have any comebacks. I did tell him about the issue and he took it in...discounted!. He also did market gardening and I bumped into him buying veg and he said he had sold it and the problem was fixed after regassing/bleeding 3 times? And finally: I took our new car to the village garage for its MOT a couple of years after, and there was the Metro on the ramp...being MOTed. I retold the story to the mechanic and he said it belonged to the women around the corner from us and it had sailed through its MOT both years with all the new parts. Most reliable car she had had!!!!!!
N18 front and rear cam solenoids get dirty if oil not changed regularly, every 5000. I have the exact same colour roadster. The head gasket blew at 98 000. It blew as a result of the secondary water pump for the turbo just fell apart, it is plastic and beneath the turbo, great design. I ended up getting a replacement engine from Charles Trent recycling, biggest in the country, from at later car with the N18 engine. It cost £2600 delivered, stuck it in myself over 2 week period as there was no rush. The other part that fails and can cause the head gasket to blow is the coolant return pipe on the header tank it can crack and the coolant is lost over time. Of cause you cannot tell from the drivers seat that it is over heating as there is no temp guage, car now has temp guage provided odb2 port.
Great vid. The Mini? Well, the choice is between blowing some money, or a kick in the bollocks…. There is the unlikely third option, you retail it and it never comes back broken……oh look, a unicorn!
I think October will be a good sales month, people getting cars bought before winter draws in, keep up the great work, look forward to auction vid when you're next there.
The little Viva SE didn't have Bluetooth in that year, some if the SEs had a/c but was onky the SL had the half leather. ( not an anorak just an owner) 😊
I do remember when you first had the 308 and you expressed doubts about how fast it would sell. As I said at the time, quirky cars do attract some people. I drive a little Honda CR-Z hybrid which is quite left field, but is cheap as chips to run.
@@williamfence566 I did pay £5200 retail for mine in May of 2023. Apart from an aircon regas, haven't had any expense other than servicing and an advisory free MOT test. Less than 62000 miles and full service history.
It's a shame as the early Tritec engined Mini's were bulletproof. Then they came out with the N13/Prince pile of crap. The 2015 on B38 and B48 engined ones seem solid enough though.

As I always say to you Lee you win some you loose some. You have had a bad run but the pitch looks a bit tidier. Things you plan don't always work the way you want them. Await more updates from you on the following MOT tester situation. Maserati video and how you are going sorting out the rating man and how to get more room to run the pitch. As I said previously you need the space which is directly next to you which would be ideal. Just tell me I am adding to your issues!!! Take care Love your content when you get time.
Your first decision, right or wrong, was to retail the Mini. That was a business decision and one that I'd have made ifvthere was margin to be had. OK, it didn't work out this time but having completed the repairs , trading it would be a definite big loss. Retailing it again is, of course, still a risk but also has the chance of minimising losses. It's the motor trade...good and bad.

Very good, works out a few Pence per kilowatt, cheaper than electric heating. We added a solar panel to charge two old batteries that keeps them running with no need to use mains electric.

A Freudian slip about the qashqai when he nearly said “unfortunately the clutch went while it was in warranty period”😂
