  • Are you planning to distil alcohol or essential oils?
    The Megahome Special Distiller is adapted for the distillation of alcohol and essential oils with two specific adaptations.
    1. The distiller comes with a mesh guard in the top cooling unit. This kind of distillation frequently involves a lot of vegetable matter with the liquid and the mesh guard stops anything getting into the working head of the distiller.
    2. The distiller comes with a modified heater element. This means the liquid heats up less quickly which gives you control over when you take different fractions of the distillation.
    If you are looking to distil alcohol or essential oils then this is the perfect way to start and experiment.
    The Megahome Alcohol/Essential Oil distiller is incredibly easy to use.

    How do you make Essential Oils with this Still? do you have to put water in with the raw material? Hot water or cold water? How much water? Where can I find proper step by step instructions for making Essential Oils with this Megahome Still?

      Hi Wendy, how did your lilac essential oil turn out? How much if any did you end up with? I have this same distiller but I bought an oil separator funnel to extract the oil from the water.

    • @ManceAl
      @ManceAl 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dan, where did you buy oil separator and how did you set it on the distiller?

    • @dfanman1
      @dfanman1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I bought a 500ml oil separator on ebay for about $20, and it doesn't have to be connected to the air distiller but as long as the liquid and oil is captured in something it can be poured into the separator that way.

    • @ManceAl
      @ManceAl 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok. Thanks. Did you try to make any essential oil? If you did, can you tell me what did you put into the distiller?

      J Cylan: If you haven’t already figured that out, I would definitely look online for videos.
      Basically, the procedure is to put a herb tray inside the tank, usually the one that’s included with it if there is one, and then add your water, if you choose to steeled for that, you’ll like we have fewer distillate left behind clinging to the container that have to be cleaned out afterwards. Make sure you’ve got your little strainer in place that prevents biomass from ending up sucked up into the works, and it pretty much works as for alcohol or water then. If you don’t have an auto shut off function, or a function to prevent burning, make sure you check back regularly.
      In your receptacle, you’ll end up with lots of hydrosol, and a little essential oil floating on the top.
      Since you’re asking this question, I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume that you’ve never done this before with any apparatus, And tell you that if you don’t have a collection apparatus that allows you to drain the water off the bottom first, then what I would do is pick up wine bottle with a really narrow neck, that matches the approximate volume of the Liquids that you produce. Pour the liquids into the clean wine bottle, and you’ll notice that the oil collects at the top of the sample, and you can use a syringe to suck that out and put it into a proper glass bottle, preferably a brown one, that you can lid.
      All that remains then is the cleanup of your apparatus.
      The manufacturer will have guidelines for your unit, but if you’re using a glass apparatus, sometimes it’s hard to get the last traces of oils out of the unit, and that might be important so that you don’t get cross-contamination the next time you go to use it for any other purpose. In that case, brew shops Sell a pink powder bleach that is not like an oil based soap, such as dish detergent is. You can use that to get a really pristine clean to preserve the integrity of your next run.
      I hope that you already had this information before I responded, so that you’ve had a year of enjoying your set up, but if not, well let’s hope that this helps you out. :-)

    Hi,I have a different but a similar distiller,at first I could get 70 degree alcohol but now not more than 40 or 45 degrees.If the distiller is broken ,how could I know it?It boils what is inside but a low degree alcohol comes out.Thank you.

    People in forums say that heads from these distillers cannot be removed and hence ruin the flavour of the final spirit. Is that right?

    If you had put a power control switch you could have easily had a water, oil and alcohol distiller. I have the water distiller already I can't justify buying a lower powered version just to make oil nor do I have the space.

      In England, an excise licence is required to manufacture spirits by any means. The penalty for "moonshine" (illegally manufactured spirits) is a fine of up to £1,000 and confiscation of the spirit-making equipment. not even that bad just make more than 1k first and u profit lol
