@@abbyc4779 You're welcome, guessing you're also a horn player! I mean i would still be welcome if you weren't but when i meet other horn players, i get happy ^v^
As a fellow horn player, I respectfully disagree. It definitely depends on the level of dedication. If you start playing as a child (who has a lot more free time than an adult) then the time spent practicing can be far beyond what is even deemed reasonable for one’s mental well being. So you’ll be able to get a lot further with any instrument depending on the sheer amount of time and tears put into it. I had been playing French horn daily for at least 7 hours straight at a time. I’m not exaggerating those hours. 7 hours of normal school, then 7 hours of playing. Give or take 20 minutes for transport to classes. All of this was either private lessons, lessons at my school, orchestra lessons, test lessons and lastly practicing at home on my own doing my ‘French horn homework’. Not to mention the Orchestra performances we did on weekends. It was exhausting and I would never recommend anyone doing that to a child. But hell, it definitely worked and I could play very well within a year. Expertly well after 4 years. But now I literally never EVER want to play a French horn again. Never. It’s been over a decade since I’ve even been near one... but now I kinda wanna buy one to display in my house with my other instruments. Sigh... the French horn curse. Whyyyyyy do I want to buy one.
@@Seal_pup obviously, my statement was a generalization. it depends on the time and dedication. i was in middle school when i first started playing, and i didn’t have access to private lessons or availability to practice all the time. not only did i not have the time available, i also struggled to play for long periods of time anyway as i got headaches easily. i think my statement is true for many players who are like me, which obviously doesn’t include you since you had a lot more practice time.
@@leoc5465 Oh absolutely agree with you. It’s all very circumstantial. And as an adult I personally find it difficult to find time to play instruments at all. Time and money are big big factors. Apologies for misunderstanding that it was a generalization from your side. In no way is it better to have learned so quickly. It was a massive detriment to my enjoyment of my childhood and the experience of learning and playing French horn. Which I hope shows how I’m not saying it’s better to learn it faster. That’s pretty much the opposite of what I’m trying to get across. I’m happy for anyone that gets to play, regardless of if they learned after 6 years or 6 months. Music is our language
