      @@irissupercoolsy lol that's only true if you listen to music actively already. Most people listen to music by beats and not pitch. Not only that but he's obviously not used to classical music. It's harder to remember things that are far from what music you relate too. All you described is what classical musicians would do (not the point of this comment)
      And also, for the last pieces i'm pretty sure a lot of people (especially male tenor voices) would fucking shred them because of the lows and highs

      Not to mention, the way he discusses it is really interesting and thoughtful. Like when he was asking about what kind of difference the downbow makes. As a non-violinist, I learned something from that even though I do know my way around a melody.

Most people who claim to be tone deaf CAN distinguish pitches, they just don’t have the vocal training to replicate them. Learning to access your head voice can help with this, and you can learn to create the pitches you hear!

      @@dominikaksiazek7177 Thank you. It's in really poor taste and shows a real lack of understanding and contrary to their usual positive and accurate attitudes towards music learning. The newest video with Ibo demonstrates their lack of understanding very clearly. They really don't know what the average person understands musically. Just because they can't sing a melody, identify a melody, or have a high accuracy of pitch identification or memory, or can apply music theory knowledge doesn't mean they hear music or understand music at some "Tone Deaf" level. In fact, very, very, very few people actually have the condition called Amusia. Most "Tone Deaf" people are just not very well trained, acculturated, or given the right environment and time to demonstrate their musical understanding. It's a universal human experience and Brett and Eddy are gate-keeping here, that's why I'm so frustrated and disappointed.

    Ibo might be a little unexperienced at memorizing intervals, but he is great at capturing rhythm. If he jouned a choir and practised a bit, he would probably do just as well as everyone else. How about teaching Ibo (and all TwoSet fans) some intervals?

    I've always thought of a challenge you could make: rhythm guessing. Sing or play songs with the correct rhythm, but playing all the notes with the same pitch.
    I've always thought rhythm is more important than pitch to identify a piece, and this can prove it, but I'm no musician, so I don't really know. You can do the reverse challenge too, correct pitch but all notes the same duration.

      Brett can actually sing okay if he puts his mind to it as long as the range works to his advantage. And some of these are pretty hard to sing. I hope I am a pretty good singer (otherwise my last two decades of singing in choir would have been a bit of a waste) and I just tried to sing the Wienawski and it's actually pretty tricky to sing.

    He's definitely not tone deaf and definitely has good rhythm. When they say he's getting better that's because you have to train your musical ear. People who didn't do musical things as a kid didn't get the practice you need to develop an ear but it doesn't mean you can't develop that later in life! (At least a bit) but this is a really hard challenge even as a musician!

They need to choose more rhythmically ambiguous pieces! Any piece that could be pretty easily recognised by clapping or tapping the rthythm has no place on this list (except maybe for Level 0)

    • @whatcommsmusic
      @whatcommsmusic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. Even for someone "with perfect pitch". Music skill is a spectrum. Absolute Pitch is a threshold above which a person can name pitches under certain conditions. Tone Deaf, likewise is an equally difficult term, but much more inaccurately applied. Almost no one on earth is truly tone deaf. There are lots of people whose aural and singing skills are very, very, very low. Ibo himself actually appears to be right in the lower middle of the bell curve, from my understanding as an educator, definitely not tone deaf. 9:33 is a good example.
