So, so helpful! I have just started on my coloring journey and I have been a bit mystified as to how colorists created such beautiful skies. Now I know and you have given me the confidence to give it a whirl and see how it goes. Thank you SO, SO much for posting this! ❤
You are so welcome lovely, so happy it was helpful 🤍🤗
Another great tip- if your pads are drying out before the ink has been used up, you can spritz the pads either with alcohol or my personal fav, water mixed with glycerin- this is what they actually sell as an pad refresher by the ranger brand!
Great tip!
Thank you
Thank You, Karen! This is such a useful video, not only for the application of the ink, but also on the placement of the stencil! Appreciate it very much, to say the least!
Thanks hun! Happy that it was helpful 🥰
This is so timely! I was trying to do an ink background yesterday, and ended up so frustrated with all the blotches that I covered it all up with neocolors. I think I was skipping the step of patting it down on another surface before going to the paper. Thanks for this! The tri-color blend is awesome!
Thank you so much 😁 what great timing! Let me know how you go after trying the new tips 🥰
Brilliant video, you’ve explained everything so well. This is something I have struggled with, as I’ve never used a colour wheel (I do have one somewhere but hung it on my wall as decoration in my old craft space) going to try using it - very helpful and definitely not boaring - great for beginners and us who need a refresh when stuck in a rut. Cheers Ness xx
Thank you hun ❤️🤗
This is a very helpful video! Thank you for the lesson.
You’re most welcome 🤗
Great video, thanks for the demo!
Thanks Sherley and you’re welcome 😁
Best coloring channel ever!! 🤩💯
Oh thanks so much, I appreciate it 🤗
Thanks Karen, this helps a lot!😎
You’re welcome Eileen 🥰
Thank hun for showing our wonderful members how to use these beautiful products
Not a problem hun, I know we’ve had so many questions in the FB group about this one 😊
Hi Kylie!
I have all the distress inks a tip I saw on another TH-cam channel is to store the ink upside down to stop the ink from drying out it works for me
@@julieloucalcote1368 hi hun
Thank you I clouds received will practicing with distress ink watch help thanks
You’re welcome Jane 😁
Beautiful work
Thank you ☺️
So amazing you are so very talented.
Oh thank you so much Linda, you’re too kind 🥰
so beautiful
Thank you 🤗
Hi Karen! Everything you do is just so beautiful. I'm really looking forward to using some of the distress inks but I'm unsure of what colors to start with. Do you have any favorite colors or colors that you use most frequently?
Broken China and Tumbled Glass are definitely my most used colours 😁💙
Thank you for sharing your tips!! Love it!! The postcard size coloring pictures, where did you find those?
I definitely want to try this. I bought the cloud stencil that you showed.
Let me know how you go Lisa 🤍
I am from Canada can you tell me where you bought the stencil I can't seem to find it
Hi Sylvie, I’ve got it listed in my Amazon store in the video description. If you copy the name into Amazon Canada it’ll hopefully pop up for you. The brand was The Crafters Workshop 😁
Merci pour la video ca me donne des idées car ça fait 6 mois que j ai commençer le coloriage. A bientot
You’re welcome Manon. Happy colouring, enjoy 🥰
Hi Karen, thanks so much for all your helpful videos! I bought myself some mini ink pads but struggle to get the tool pad dots to get color on as though my mini pads are dry.....i know the dots should not be saturated but was thinking it also should struggle to get color on the tools to use.....should i ask for replacements?
Yeah it sounds like they’ve dried out. I’d contact the company you purchased from if they’re new and see if they’ll replace them. Also storing them upside down helps keep the ink near the top of the pad. When mine are new I usually end up getting too much colour on the pad and having to wipe off on some paper first.
Thank you for this video. I just got a cloud stencil and want to try it out. Do you use anything between the pages in your books to keep ink, glitter, or pastels from transferring to the opposite page? Any type of paper you recommend for this?
I use a fixative on all of my pages to stop transfer, I only put paper in between if it’s glittery and for that I just use baking paper (wax paper) 😁
this is a Godsend because i just recently purchased a few distress inks and i am struggling quite a bit with them . I have the tools with the exception of the round tools
but just cant seem to get the hang of it. THanks luv ! What do you think of the fingertip tools i have seen? Also do you find you need to rewet them at times?
Your welcome Sherry, I hope it helped😊. So the only time I've tried distress ink with any water is for creating a bokeh effect with water drops, adding stamps or that sort of splatter graffiti effect. The finger daubers look really cool, I'm just not sure how much control it would give for me personally as I think I have more control gripping the normal blending tools a bit like a pencil. I definitely think they'd be worth trying though 😁
ALso- UGH I always did my clouds straight across. I never thought to tip them at an angle! I always made sure to move it to different edges but, man what a difference it makes seeing it done this way!
Thanks Annie, I think this effect really makes the clouds look more realistic 😁
I have really enjoyed this I try ordering the cloud stencil but it’s no longer in stock ? Also I would like to ask you for someone just starting in Distress ink there are so many which ones should I start with in color range?
Thank you I hope you still read these comments I would appreciate it.
❤ marina
Hi Marina, I just responded to your other comment for the cloud stencil, hope that helps 🤗 So I have found I use the blues and the browns the most in my distress inks. The Blues for my clouds and skies. Browns for autumnal pages or for an aged look. Hope that helps ❤️
Hi Karen! Great video. It really makes it look so easy in use. Bought all the supplies before New Year, but I’m afraid to start.
Do you use the ink first? Or do you colour first and use the ink afterwards? Because I don’t want to ruin my colorings 🙈 thanks for your amazing videos!
Thanks so much! Depends on the pic for me. If I’m doing clouds I’ll just do it at the end, but for a full background I’d use them first and use masking fluid to protect the other elements. If you use them after, it can be easier if you use oil based pencils as you can wipe off any that has gotten on top of the pencils usually with a tissue, sometimes you might need a touch of water. Doesn’t work so well over wax pencils 😁
@@MyColourfulCountryLife This information is so useful! Thanks 🙏🏻 now, maybe, I’ll loose my fear, and just do the clouds, because they look so good 😄
Most of the time I’m using prisma’s, so I can wipe it away than.
Thank you Karen! Where can I find the cloud stencil?
You’re welcome. So stencil is linked in my Amazon store (in video description) depending on whereabouts you are you can copy the name and paste it into your relevant Amazon. The brand is The Crafters Workshop, I found mine in a local craft store 😁
Thank you for this video! So helpful! Can you tell me where you got your case for the distressed ink pad tools? Never seen anything like it. Thanks again for all you do! ♥️
Of course Kendra, it was from www.crafties.com.au 😁
@@MyColourfulCountryLife thank you! I would love to see your 3 month old puppy! Beautiful clouds!
Thank you! If you watch the beginning of this video here th-cam.com/video/dB2Ls2U5es8/w-d-xo.html my puppy makes an appearance 🐶🥰
Hi Karen, I can’t find the storage bag on your link. Does it have a name? Thanks ❤
Can you show us how to use the different blending brushes that you show at the beginning, please?
I sure can 🤗 I will have to double check but I think I may show those brushes in my ARRTX pastel review.
I would love to practice on paper that is similar to the coloring book but I'm not even sure how to know what type of paper to use because I'm not sure what type of paper the coloring book is.
I've noticed in Kerbys current books that the paper is different from the past books. So I try to take that into consideration as well. Uggh.
How do you use the distressed ink on a previously colored picture without a background
Ooh you'll need to be very careful going around the image. Depending on the intracacy of the image you can trace the image onto tracing paper, cut it out and hold it over the image (maybe with some washi tape) while you carefully colour around it. Otherwise you'll need to use a small tool to get around the details.
Can you link that applicator and case set please? Can't find it.
So the company I purchased them from no longer sells them and I can't find the case set anywhere else. But you can find the items separate on Amazon, if you look up the Tim Holtz sponge applicators for distress ink. I hope that helps (and sorry for the late response) 😊
@MyColourfulCountryLife thanks! I got the ink and applicators already, just would love a case to keep them all in. Thanks for letting me know! 💙
Do you always use distress ink for backgrounds? Do you ever use pencils?
I use pencils more than I use distress inks. I completed an entire book just with pencils 😁
The inks stress me out!
Well hopefully not after this lol 😁 Tim Holtz is releasing distress watercolour pencils (they look similar to Neocolors) with the same colours as the inks 😁
Oh! I gotta get all the neocolors first! 😜
Practice will improve your outcome. Like the idea of using plain paper.
i dunno im just not convinced by them , they just seem overpriced & messy & kind of awkward to use, im certain that you could put inktense or even water colour pencils on a pallette & use a felt applicator that would give the exact same results, i am colouring the ink house & i loved a youtube video of the pugs & in it the woman used distress ink, i just used inktese & alcrecht durer after scribbling on a rough surface to create a pallet & used a waterbrush & they came out great, i do like the colours of these inks though & really like the clouds in this video
You can most certainly use other mediums and get similar results. It's all up to personal choice. Soft pastels also work really well for a cloud effect. It took me a beat to get the hang of the distress inks and I now love them, so this video is for people who want to try them or already own them and don't know how to use them
