    Also, one other thing I didn’t mention in the video. If you know what you want to colour on a particular element for example a red dragon and then you are stuck for the rest of the page colours, look at these techniques and see which one would work best on your page (all of them will work) 😁

    This is an EXCELLENT video! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read about color theory, but found it hard to retain. I am largely a visual learner (I bet that applies to a lot of colorists) and the tint, tone, shade demo with the red paint has FINALLY taught me what words alone could not. Thank you for all you do to develop the skills of others. You’re amazing!

    This was a huge help in understanding the color wheel and all the different ways to make it work for you. The samples from your coloring pages helped a lot, and your verbal explanations were spot on. One of the bests vids I have watched, if not the best for me. I have always appreciated your channel, and I am so glad you are still with us, making entertaining and informative videos. Great work!!! This video was sort of a life saver for me, as I colour as a form of therapy/mindfulness and also to help with my anxiety and push through it without extra medications. I felt overwhelmed, was rude to myself and even beat myself up over it - but this and your colour palettes, colour theory and the like have given me a huge, new spark; I can't thank you enough.
    You're so talented, well spoken and seem like a very kind and compassionate human being. Thank you so, so much.

      Oh Caroline, your comment has made my day. I started colouring for similar reasons and I’m still hard on myself (see pink door in my October recap video 😅). The perfectionist in me needs to learn to let go lol I am so very happy that the videos have had an impact and that it’s given you some joy ❤️❤️❤️

    • @conservedbymeds
      @conservedbymeds 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MyColourfulCountryLife Ah yes, the pink door! 😅 I'm still struggling because I try to layer and blend but end up pushing too hard (I think), same with where to put highlights and shadows. But I'm not into hyperrealism either so I SHOULD cut myself some slack, look at it as a lesson learned as you say.
      I believe that if I just continue colouring I'll get better without thinking of it. As I've never really coloured ever in my life, only used graphite pencils, so I'm a liiiittle behind. 🤣
      Thank you for sharing your colouring, giving tips and tricks and always being kind and understanding. Your response made My day as I just woke up (Swede), I'm so going to binge your videos and colour all Saturday! ❤
      I hope you're having a lovely evening/morning! ❤

    • @MyColourfulCountryLife
      @MyColourfulCountryLife  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh that sounds like the perfect Saturday to me! 🤗
      Yeah with practice and time we all improve. My colouring is still improving, even if I look back just to this time last year, it’s grown so much. We are all beginners at some point. Just don’t compare the beginning of your journey to someone else’s end. All we can do is look back on our own progression ❤️ Sometimes it’s a matter of learning your colouring style and leaning into it (which also takes time). 🎨
      As long as it’s fun and bringing joy that’s all that matters 🥰

    • @conservedbymeds
      @conservedbymeds 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MyColourfulCountryLife Definitely can't complain, a cup of newly brewed coffee, headphones on, watch your videos and colour in my own little bubble. 😊🤗
      That's very true, I find it difficult to not be hard on myself and not compare myself to others who have coloured in a loooong time - but the way you express yourself and speak in your videos makes me feel safe (?) and that it's okay to have no idea of what I'm doing at the moment. 😅❤
      I love colouring, though every page takes forever to finish - but that's okay for me! 🥰🎨✨️

    • @MyColourfulCountryLife
      @MyColourfulCountryLife  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @conservedbymeds if it helps, I just started a colour along today and at the start of filming the first thing I said was I have no idea what I’m doing lol so you’re not alone 😂😂
      I’m so happy to hear that you find this a safe space.
      Also the longer a page takes just means you get to enjoy it for longer and it’s even more gratifying when it’s completed ❤️❤️
      I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing Saturday 🤗

    I can look at a page and picture in my head how I want it to look and know what colors go well together, but I get so caught up in what pencils to chose to achieve what I’m going for. I can’t wait so see your next video on choosing pencils! Can you please include how you take one of your color combinations and apply it to an image? For instance, your leaf combination page and apply it to a completely different looking leaf or the flower one? I would find that very helpful. Thanks so much 🙂

      Hi Casey, same thing still happens to me. I’ll know I want blue for something but not what type of blue and I’ll sit and swatch until I’m happy. Then I have to match the other colours lol sometimes it’s work and other times it just happens in my head. Depends on the day 😆
      So with the spotlight series on leaves there is a 3 part video using the leaves in magical jungle. The flower combos I did a tutorial using them in I think Worlds of Wonder… or world of flowers. I can’t remember which 😬 but they should be in my tutorial playlist. Is this the kind of thing you’re after?

    oh I make these simular in my coloring books ...
    per color work I use another 1, 2 or 3 primary colors and I mixing from them what I need, so it will be never boring and I´ve a lot of fun :D ... yes, also a monochromatic artwork can looking harmonicly, with more or less water.
    I learn a lot about the pigments that I have and the hole color range between them and sometimes this was surprising for me ... now I can create a springslike artwork without any green if I use a lemon yellow and neutral black O.o autumlike it will be if I use a redish yellow and neutralblack ... I also like the great range between cadmium red light and ultramarine, because you can find here a lot of skintones.
    all this knowledge from my experiments and color mixing fun is very helpful for my next "artworks" :)
    now I´m thinking nobody need big palettes to create art near the reality - look at the old masters - anders zorn have used only 4 colors for his awesome art works.

I have a quick question: When choosing a color palette, do you first think of one color you would like to use, and then go from there? Or do you look at palettes collectively? Just asking out of curiosity because this seems to be where I start to keep from being overwhelmed while looking at palettes.

      Ooh ok, I think I might have pinned my comment at the top regarding just this haha. So if you do come up with a colour for a particular element then you can look at all these techniques and maybe write down the options using each of the techniques and pick which one will work best. For a simple page you might want to just use complimentary colours. For a busier page you might want to use tetradic colours to give yourself more option. Then with the chosen colour you can make multiple combos within similar colour families 😁 Hope that helps Shelly 🤗

    I have a question. Do you use black, grey and white when colouring with pencils to get shades, tints and tones? I get how to do it with paint (just by mixing), but with pencils I find it way harder. How do you do that?
    Thanks for all your videos and I love your style!❤

      I definitely do it with white. But I find prismas which I usually use, have a great colour range that I don’t have to try to mix any, the work has been done in the creation. I also don’t use black that often to create shadows in a colour combo. For a green leaf for example I’ll use a dark blue or a grey-brown to create the depth rather than adding black. I hope that helps 😁

    Thank you so much, Karen! I really struggle with this issue! PS: Is the red Kraaken a color along or did you do that one before you started filming?

      You’re so welcome. The red Kraken I coloured before I had my channel back in December 2019 so unfortunately no colour along ❤️

    Does anyone know which color wheel she’s using? It’s not the same one on her lists and I really love that specific one!

      Hi Katherine, I bought mine so many years ago, I think i bought if from Craft Online here in Australia. Not sure if it’s still sold, I couldn’t find the same one so I tried to add a similar version on my list 😊
