Now I know the difference between ink and oxide. I have been wondering for a few years. I bought the ink now I also want the oxide. Thank you Tim for using the brush pens. I am glad they works I bought a set of water brush pens. I'm using those for coloring.
I started card making 20 yrs ago, then got away from it now I am getting back into it. There's so much more now to work with. I'd like to do this along with other types of things like embellishments. I enjoy sending cards to people I know in my community. Gives me a lot of joy to do that to help others feel better.
Thanks Tim! Like many others, I also had the same question. I now also understand the blending technique and why it makes sense by not starting directly on the project surface. 👍
I love the Distress Inks and Oxides although I don't own any of them because I can't afford them. But I'll keep watching and learning until I can afford them. I'm not discouraged just waiting for my time to come. by the way, this Christmas my children gifted me a Sizzix big shot and i love it so much! Thank you!
Mary, Amazon now has a whole bunch of Tim Holtz’ stuff for $5-$10 so you might want to look there if you can’t spend too much money. All these inks are there and some are under $6 just in case you want to look!
Today, I learn something, you can emboss with distress ink and clear powder. I shall experience it much more. I enjoy and love learning something new. Merci beaucoup
Hello Tim , you are my idol when it comes to mixed media art & crafting and I love all your products from dies to stencils to paper dolls and others.. thanks so much for sharing your creative mind to everyone of us who lives to craft and do art . Lilia
Nice! I really appreciate this information. I was wondering about the differences between the two different kinds, and Tim is always so clever in his explanations and demonstrations. Thanks for sharing this.
Audrina Thorsen ~ I love your video. I bought Distress ink and Distress oxide inks and sprays but didn't know how to use them. Your video is very helpful. Thanks so much. Now, I'm really anxious to play with them!
Wow, Newbe here and those inks and pigments are the very first thing I purchased. Besides stamping with them, I didn't have a clue of the other marvelous things I can do with them. So exciting. Thank you Mr. Holtz .
I want ALL of them!! Including the work area mat!!! Love, LOVE, L O V E your products!! I am just a beginner so it will take me a while to build my stock...but what I have so far is a “DREAM!” Your products and crafting are better than PROZAC!! HAHHA They are good for the MIND!! Thank you Tim! Beautiful products!
Thanks for this video, Tim. I feel like I learned a lot. I did not know that I could emboss w/ the regular inks. I thought only pigment ink worked for embossing, so I learned something new. Thanks for putting a color chart of all Inks & Oxides on your site!!! I really appreciated finding that last week.
Wow thanks so much! Im new to these products. I only have a small inventory of them so far but i definitely plan on watching more videos and getting more inks!
I hadn't thought about how the inks work with dark cardstock, so I found that interesting. I just order 12 more Oxides to add to the 16 I already have. I have both types of ink but I definitely prefer the Oxides. Just love blending with them. Great Video on the difference between them.
This was great! I never knew the difference although I have both products in almost all of the colors. To be honest, I’m not sure I realized they were different. I think I just noticed some were big and others were mini cubes. I thought they were ink/chalk hybrids. I’m excited to put my new knowledge to work. Thanks again, Tim! You’re an amazing instructor.
A very good demonstration of the 2 different types of inks. I am inspired by this and I do want to color more with water that my images would really stand out. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, Tim, for sharing the difference between the two. I don't have any of the oxides yet. I love the little palette for watercolor painting. I'm going to have to add that to my wish list!
This is one of the best video's you've done. Now I better understand the differences. In working with the inks, I find, for me, that I prefer the Oxide inks. And I absolutely love my water brushes. Especially the self flowing ones.

The paint brush that has 2 heads. The storage for the ink refill holding the paint. Also can you get smaller ink pads. I a widow on the fixed budget. Sorry I wrote alot. But I am excited. To finally start making cards again. Since my wonderful husband passed away

Thank YOU so much... NOW I have a better FEEL of which is which Question: Is either on one of these good to paint on FABRIC? Please say "YES"... it would make me very happy.
I have just watched a video on storing and labelling the ink pads. I think it would much easier for us all if ranger supplied the matching label for us to stick on when we receive it. Or even the label already being on the side to begin with. What do think of that idea?
Jane! Amazon now has amazing Tim Holtz options for under $10 and you can get lots of his stuff and other crafting items. Just in case you want to look!
Such an informative vieod. He explains so good n in simple way. Iam not gonna use stamping. Bt I really want to background my art. So I think i used buy distress oxide. Am I rite? Cz u said distress ink are more pigmented n leaves mark n difficult to blend. If iam doing background alone should I buy distress oxide?
Great! So glad you enjoyed the video. His new colors arrived yesterday. You might want to check them out... www.scrapbook.com/store/ri-oxidebundle5.html Happy Crafting!
This is a great video....great instruction on the difference and effects to gain from doing it right. Totally enjoyed this and really enjoying my inks. Bought several oxide's and they really are interesting in their application and effects. TFS T!m! :)
I was so excited to watch this tutorial! I didn’t even realize that their is Oxide & Ink when it comes to the Distressed pads. I have a couple of your Distressed oxides that I use on my papercraft decor and I especially use them when making paper flowers. I love the coloring that it brings!! Some things I learned today just made my jaw drop, because I did not know that the blending pads were washable?! 😱 I’ve been throwing mine away after many uses. 🙈 The water coloring with the pens was extremely cool and now I want to give it a try too! I use 65lb cardstock with my paper crafting & wondering if it will work on it? Lastly, I use to use embossing powders in my scrapbooking days, but I think I need to pull it out again as it’s such a gorgeous look to add to any kind of decoration. Thanks Tim for sharing, I really enjoyed this video! 💗
This is by far the best video explaining the difference between distress inks and oxides. Great visuals! Thank you!
In conclusion, the oxide has a dustier/chalkier effect when applied. Thanxxxx. This answered my biggest Q.
