You should really delve deeper into System of a Down. As a pastor, I think you will really appreciate the meanings in their songs.A lot of it is politically based, but they have gone on record saying that it’s more important to them how YOU interpret their music. Here’s a brief history of the band- They are all of Armenian decent, and their grandparents survived the genocide and made it to the states. The very conception of the band was based around the Armenian genocide, and the members (especially Serj, the singer) are very heavy activists, trying to bring justice to the Armenian people by getting recognition of the genocide from Turkey. Serj has made great progress with this, and not only has it changed things for the Armenian people, but the world as a whole. They have always been a band that exposes the injustices, corruption, and overall hatred of the powers that be. If you really listen to what they’re talking about in their music, you’ll see pretty quickly that they have absolutely zero tolerance for the cruelty that goes on in the world.
I agree. They're my favorite metal band, and I think both the forwardness and ambiguity simultaneously in the meanings of their songs makes for great commentary when people try to interpret what it means to them and how it reflects real life issues as well.
I know right! and something I did learn recently about what they ment about "eating seeds is a past time acitivity", is that its considerd a past time activity in some muslim countries. Though I dont know what he ment by that
I'm really digging this channel. I myself am not a believer in God, however I find all different perspectives interesting. I think you should also add feedback to the music itself, instrumentals and vocals.
Tristan Shomette agreed !! They should definitely give their feedback on the music . Not just pick and assume what’s spiritual and put his own “Christian “ interpretation on the band and lyric . Also they should at least do a little research on the artists as well
I enjoy these reactions and your interpretation of it. But I'd also like to know if you like or dislike the actual instruments and vocals of the song that's reviewed.
There are a ton of songs I could suggest for you, but I haven't seen anyone suggest the Christian band Disciple who are very underrated. Two songs of there's that I would recommend are The Ballad of St. Augustine and Worth the Pain. A couple mainstream songs I would suggest are: Holy Wars by Megadeth, By Myself by Linkin Park and Halo on Fire by Metallica. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Love the content guys, may I suggest “Cemetary Gates” from Pantera? You will want to have the lyrics handy since Phil can be difficult to understand at times
These videos give me a greater appreciation for these songs. I’ve never liked System of a Down, but seeing a meaning to the lyrics makes me want to hear more.
12:23 That's actually a really good point to make. I feel like a lot of humans (myself included) have reverted back into this mentality of 'you're wrong, you're a hypocrite' (be it wrong or right) rather than offer solutions, they just point out things that are NOT the solution. I hope we as a community can continue to grow out of this phase and be better.
Again that was really good especially what you said after the song. About being at a crucial point in life to be able to make a difference instead of or as well as just pointing out nefarious shenanigans. That resonates right now. I've always walked in love but only this year found my way back to God. Most of the scriptures i read are referenced from a TH-cam video or something I'm researching so I think I'll read about The Tower Of Babel.
Try out Black Sabbath - Lord of this world. The idea that Black Sabbath should be "satanic" is pure BS. I would not call them Christian, but the main song writer Tommy Iommy is, or at least was, christian. They do sing about Satan, and even from his perspective, but they never glorifies him. Satan, in their songs, is a tempter and a punnisher, not the good guy. Totally in line with Christian theology. In their lyrics, following Satan, is being selfish at the expense of others - something they very clearly resent. I suspect the reason Christians disliked Black Sabbath back when, has more to do with their political leanings (anti-war/anti conservative/ pro drugs (not all drugs, one of their best songs "Hand of Doom" is an anti-heroin song for instance).
Pleeeease do “Empty Walls” by Serj Tankian (SOAD lead singer). Not really any religious or spiritual things in it, but a deep song nonetheless. Very political & if you watch the music video, well.... just watch the music video. Thanks guys!
Here's one for you guys to review lol and I only suggest this because before I got saved I was a total Black Metal fan and religiously borderline satanist, but luckily I was brought back to the light... But anyway : Cradle of Filth - Hallowed Be Thy Name
I didn't want to believe it, but it's true, all these big bands are possessed by fallen angels or demons. Metallica's "four hoursmen" is obvious. But Guns n Rose have heaps of biblical references to, eg. "Dont damn me" and "Estranged" Call on Jesus every day, ask Him to guide you to the truth.
I think you may take an interest in System of a Down - Soldier Side. The meaning of the song is pretty straight forward, I just would like to hear anything you have to say about it. I'm not an extremely religious person but I take an interest in watching your videos and views on things.
At least bob your head and react to the music ?? I’ve watched several of your videos and never have you felt the music . Also do a little research on the artist before bringing in your opinion. Can we at least get a little feed black on the music instead of you scrutinizing and picking what you believe to be spiritual elements ? I’m mean no disrespect towards your faith and beliefs . Just ask my you to observe the music as a whole not just fuel for a sermon dude
GOTEN 3030150 that’s the point of the videos. He’s a Pastor. His job is preaching. Also, in past videos he mentioned he’s not a fan of rock/metal music. BigKat is, but Pastor Andy is not.
“Order out of disorder” is exactly what the goal of the New World Order is. “Order out of Chaos.” This song goes completely against that. Also, God didn’t destroy the Tower of Babel, mix up the languages, and scatter everyone across the Earth because he felt like it. Nimrod literally had the Tower built so that he could get into heaven and kill God. “And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.” -Genesis 11:6
Great song could you react to a song by dream theater? Any you choose is good. Maybe constant motion or dark eternal night. I'm a pastor from SBTS btw.
Love it guys! System of a down has other interesting songs with religious themes. Aerials and chop sue could be fitting for your concept (and are amazing songs). Keep it up
Awesome band the drums gets me pumping any way good feed back i thought the eating seed it's destroying the earth it's a pass time the one's who are in charge hey let's do chop suey God bless
I like what you guys are doing. I think its time to challenge pastor andy a little bit. Show him something that has anti religious lyrics to it and see what he has to say. I would suggest no gods no masters by arch enemy or predator and prayer by the agonist
GMFdrummer oh yeah. Definitely check bathory out. They are amazing. Keep in mind the music is almost 40 years old and sounds Like it was recorded in a metal trash can
Metallica - Disposable Heroes / The God that Failed Breaking Benjamin - Away / Simple Design / Here We Are / Red Cold River Creed - One Last Breath / With Arms Wide Open

Seems? Seeds. Hell they're even literally eating sunflower seeds in the video during that line.
I was thinking the same thing lol
Yeah basically to stave off boredom or apathy they have to be doing something at any time all the time
It's "Eating *seeds* as a past time activity, not "Eating *seems* ...
I know right! and something I did learn recently about what they ment about "eating seeds is a past time acitivity", is that its considerd a past time activity in some muslim countries. Though I dont know what he ment by that
It’s eating seeds!! Not “seams”.
Ya I know I got really mad every time I saw it tooo
Reminds me of the erroneous tool lyrics on genius, ironically. SentientMind has done a brilliant job...
What are seams?

Tristan Shomette great way of thinking about things that way. Good for you!
DryWall Essence I read a book once called spiritual atheism. Interesting philosophy.
You guys done 10 000 days by Tool? Best to go whole hog on both parts though. Massive concept piece
Metal is more about the instruments than the lyrics but the lyrics are still a big part of metal, his take on the music is sometimes to up tight
Chop suey by system of a down has spiritual themes.

Cheers, guys.

I really like this reaction from you, Pastor. You found the depth of this song.
These videos give me a greater appreciation for these songs. I’ve never liked System of a Down, but seeing a meaning to the lyrics makes me want to hear more.
