Steal This Album is definitely my favorite SOAD album. It's great from the 1st track to the last.. especially the last. The way the last three songs blend into one another is incredible.
The first song that got me to System of a Down was Lonely Day, it played randomly on the rock station NU107 in the Philippines back in 2006. This band became a comfort playlist for me during my college days.
I feel like we just need to wait for a political climate shift that all four members have a similar opinion on. I feel like that shift is slowly happening. I'm not gonna beg for a new album. I do think it may happen, but not as soon as we anticipate it to.
As someone in a band, it seems like Daron doesn't understand that he isn't Robert Smith. He isn't the frontman. That's Serj. Some bands can have the lead writer be the lead guy and some bands are best when they play their role and are a collective sum of their parts.
Sneaker Pimps did the same thing when they axed Kelli as the lead singer, then they started sucking as well. Some people have talent but no ear for what makes a good hit sound. 6 Underground ended up being like the theme song for the 90s, listen to the one who wrote the song sing it sometime, it just doesn't have that pop that type of song needs.
Forreal. The beetles have 6.2 Billion views on their music world wide with numerous albums, SOAD has 5.5 Billion views on just 5. They could've been the biggest band the world has ever seen. There are famous rappers who have been at for over a decade and barely breaks over 1 or 2 billion views. Makes me sad 😢
Right, I feel like there's a reason bands like this rise and fall so quickly. Carrying such a passionately charged message must be incredibly burdensome, to the point that they feel burnt out after a while. I think continuing would just water down their message
@@lukehanson7554 Agree, it is a GOOD thing when a band writes while truly inspired, but STOPS if that inspiration is no longer there. Otherwise you have travesties like Disturbed recording cover songs to stay on the radio, with absolutely no emotional connections to the heart anymore
Of course you can. You just fell into the social media trap of thinking broadcasting your political opinions to the world is the normal way of life, when it's simply a choice. In the past, having "your own opinions" was completely different...
Rock n roll is anti establishment. It’s anti fascism. It’s anti corruption. It’s anti-convention. You can’t be rock n roll and support oppression. Trump is the antithesis of rock n roll. Any rock legend who supports him has lost their way, period.
Daron did ruin the band as far as I'm concerned, and it was obvious with Mesmerize and Hypnotize (and the diminished quality in sound and songwriting) that he was trying to take over. You can see in interviews and other appearances, too, that he has a massively inflated ego. Why he felt he needed to be both lead guitar and lead vocals, I don't know. They were perfect when they each stuck to their respective roles. Serj may as well have not even been on those last two albums, or the two new songs they dropped in 2020 for that matter.
Daron has a great voice and his voice fit that era of rock very well. Scars of Broadway is a fantastic vehicle for him to share that. He really fit that emo era and I get that Scars is more metal than contemporary emo bands, his voice definitely bridges the two very well. I really wish he would have pursued both ventures and not started a power struggle for System. He and Serj really complimented each other well, but Serj had the defining sound. Daron easily could have been part of two successful projects and split time.
I was so lucky to have seen SoaD in their post-hiatus reunion tour in 2011. They really sounded amazing, like they just picked where they left off. I was hoping then that it was the start of a new chapter of the band
You couldn't go anywhere in 2005-2008 without hearing BYOB, and that's the song that got me interested in SOAD. Mezmerize and Hypnotize are such bangers, the fact that they were both released in the same year is insane!
I've only ever heard the toxicity album, but I recently checked out their discography after all these years and im finding new System of a Down music in 2024. Mezmerize is my favorite SOAD album.
It makes sense that a band with almost strictly political songs wouldn’t last long, politics is a topic that a slight diss agreement can ruin friendships if you care that much about it. SOAD was a great band but at this point they need to just officially break up and stop leaving fans on a cliff hanger. If they somehow agree again, the comeback and revival of the band after breakup would be legendary, but just leaving fans dissatisfied and waiting for an album eventually is just sad
I'm happy there all finding success on there own with there own projects. With that being said I wish they could put there difference's aside and do one more album. Theres a System and Deftones album in August in Golden Gate Park, SF that I'm hopefully going to. They're still sporadically performing shows but it's so unfortunate that it seems like we'll never get another System album. They were and still are one of my all-time favorite bands and I'd like to hear new music from them, but if it's not meant to be, at least all the ones released are classics and bangers relevant to this day and probably will remain as such for a long time to come.
I'm so grateful for the SOAD that we got but selfishly I want to hear more. This band was absolutely inspiring and influential to me during adolescence. Such nostalgia with every song!
Highly creative people have all kinds of craziness going through their brains all the time. Probably total chaos. Impossible to live any kind of a normal life. Can you imagine any of these guys driving their kids to soccer practice? And sitting still in the stands at a game? And having a normal conversation with the mother of Mikey?

"Although the song 'Chop Suey' was too controversial for the radio, it still became a hit." How can that be? Oh yes, because there are 194 other countries on Earth besides the USA. And the band achieved gold or platinum status in almost all of them. That's why.
1st time I saw them was Ozzfest 98. Hated them. But by 2002 they became one of my all-time favs. Steal This Album is definitely my favorite out of all of them. Every song is just so good!
I was lucky to attend their performance at the european tour few years back, this was hands down the best concert I’ve ever been. I am not a big fan of heavy metal but their songs are such a great fusion of rock and metal and many other things and it’s just so unique and interesting that this “heaviness” of the music is not so much pronounced as with other music bands. It’s sad that they are not getting along , and that their differences are keeping away is as fans from enjoying their music. I could only imagine how many new masterpieces they could have come up with. But being Armenian myself and knowing a bit the temper and principles of our people I would say it’s a common mistake that we make, we could do more if we put our differences away and try to work and hear each other. I hope one day we will all hear something new from them and I really really how it won’t be dedicated to a new disaster that will strike Armenia and Armenian people.
I would be happy to see them in any format, be it live performance or a new album , it’s a shame that they are so much talented and some personal ambitions are becoming an obstacle on the way of incredible music.
Hey, if my dad basically passed this shit down to me and is the reason why I listen to SOAD almost everyday, then I for damn sure can pass it down onto my son or daughter.
They played at the Norva in Norfolk, VA between 2008-2010. I don’t remember exactly. Edit: I just remembered, it wasn’t SoaD. It was Serj and his band.
Hypnotize, the song, was my first SOD song. Yup, I was living under a rock and I was in training with truck driving. When the song came on the radio, I remember actually being mesmerized by everything the song had to offer. It was indeed hypnotizing. Anyway, I hate it when good bands have differences like this that ultimately lead to a break up!
@@backpackerway8533 As I like to say, Hypnotize/Mezmerize were System Of A Daron... Almost all songs written by him alone, which is sad, cause only when I listened to his Scars On Broadway stuff I realized how boring and uninspired he really is as a songwriter. It's always the same structures, zero surprises. He lacks Serj's harmonic ingenuity and John's rhythmic creativity, that made their old albums so great to me. Of course they had some good songs on it too, but they were nowhere close to the diversity of Toxicity, Aerials, Spiders, Peephole, DDevil, A.D.D, Mr. Jack or Streamline.
@@backpackerway8533 The more I dig, the more I feel like Daron did a ton of the songwriting for System and the band cannot replace him without a noticeable drop in quality. Freddie may have been a musical genius and an idea guy, but the band polished it all up to give us the iconic sound. Daron is good enough to go on his own, but he'll never be bigger than System. @@TomasBridal, they both have good "solo" songs, but their harmonies together are unmatched. Also, I've put solo in quotes, cuz if the rumors are true John worked with both of them on their projects.
The guitarist wrote most of the songs….
Daron wrote most of the songs 😂
They entertain us to educate us. Many "Heavy" bands have guided me in my activism. Like Black Sabbath, Anti-War music.
Now It's so ironic they want war

Daron said that the songs on the Scars On Broadway album, The Dictator, were originally written with SOAD in mind.
The 2 albums from SOB are literally the sound of Mesmerize/Hypnotize
Daron wrote most of the lyrics for soad, makes sense.
Unpopular opinion, but I really enjoy SOB.
I’m glad he mentions about 911. I remember this song and the rage, confusion. I remember them purposely not wanting them playing on the radio. We bought the album and blasted everywhere. It resonated the pain we were going through at that time.
You can tell their bass player is like “man come on guys can’t we all just get along and make a new album “
I meet him back in 2004 he’s a cool guy
John is also probably tired of it too
Heartbroken for what could have been.
Seems that way with the best bands with the most potential. But the best of the best, become what could have been before leaving
Don’t be. What we have now is better than them making a bunch of terrible albums.
I saw System & Static x open for Slayer at the New Daisy in Memphis became an instant fan of both
Rob from SOULFLY was telling stories about those early days where Static X played to 50 people and then it just took off. I've veen watching Selputura or SoulFly. Rob and his brother look like they are having fun.
Static X is the band that inspired the “your favorite band sucks” T-shirt.
Steal This Album is definitely my favorite SOAD album. It's great from the 1st track to the last.. especially the last. The way the last three songs blend into one another is incredible.
did you steal it?
The first song that got me to System of a Down was Lonely Day, it played randomly on the rock station NU107 in the Philippines back in 2006. This band became a comfort playlist for me during my college days.
We really need a SOAD band again today. Its so painful they stopped. They are so damn great. I want to so badly see them in concert....
I feel like we just need to wait for a political climate shift that all four members have a similar opinion on. I feel like that shift is slowly happening. I'm not gonna beg for a new album. I do think it may happen, but not as soon as we anticipate it to.
I would love another Steal This Album type project. Just to break through the frost.
6 Underground ended up being like the theme song for the 90s, listen to the one who wrote the song sing it sometime, it just doesn't have that pop that type of song needs.
nothing "sad" and theres no "fall" here. their impact through songs and live performances stays . their contribution is huge!
As a good leftist, Serj is against his friends' opinions...
Can't have your own opinions about politics anymore 😢
Its not darons FAULT..
🙄
@@dimitrakapa4887 yes it is he wanted full control of the band and the most money. Serj wanted everything split equally.
Very true. Serj voice is one of the main things that set them apart. Daron should have just been happy being backup vocals wtf
Scars is bad music for unintelligent people @@riffbw
They will forever be an important part of my childhood. Thank you System of a Down.
Dear System,
We need you, now more than ever. Please come back!!
And here they are on tour 2024! Can't kill the system
Reading off the Wikipedia or not you still formatted it into a entertaining and informative video for anyone looking to know more about the band
They just need to ditch John. There are other good drummers out there that are also Leftist.
John just needs to leave. Period.
I think they should stop writing about political bs and start making songs on other topics
@@YukiiSahashi john is just serj's excuse to stay as a solo artist

I'm happy there all finding success on there own with there own projects. With that being said I wish they could put there difference's aside and do one more album. It's easy to see that they had a connection in music if they could just get along. Sotd was one of my favorite bands during that time. I've been with them since they did B. Y. O. I've only ever listened to Toxicity but it's extremely good and songs from it get stuck in my head all the time, most recently "Shimmy". I need to listen to their other albums that you showed here!!
Most people never heard of the Genocide until this band started singing about it.
Its an amazing cultural achievement for a metal band.

What country hasn't had a genocide, I'm sorry for what ever happened to that country but that doesn't give Armenians the right to come to the United States and live off the system. Like the majority of Armenians that are on welfare, and do all kinds of sketchy shit.
BTW, just this week a new single from Serj has dropped, and John plays the drums in the song and the official music video :)

One of the best rock/metal bands ever
Theres a System and Deftones album in August in Golden Gate Park, SF that I'm hopefully going to. They're still sporadically performing shows but it's so unfortunate that it seems like we'll never get another System album. I like Scars on Broadway's albums, and I liked Serj's "Elect the Dead" (his other solo albums...not so much) but I loved System of a Down. They were and still are one of my all-time favorite bands and I'd like to hear new music from them, but if it's not meant to be, at least all the ones released are classics and bangers relevant to this day and probably will remain as such for a long time to come.
dont bother wathcing this video, there is no "sad truth" in this video
I'm so grateful for the SOAD that we got but selfishly I want to hear more. This band was absolutely inspiring and influential to me during adolescence. Such nostalgia with every song!
Highly creative people have all kinds of craziness going through their brains all the time. Probably total chaos. Impossible to live any kind of a normal life. Can you imagine any of these guys driving their kids to soccer practice? And sitting still in the stands at a game? And having a normal conversation with the mother of Mikey?
🇦🇲 ❤ its crazy to have seen these guys in concert when i was a teen and now im able to introduce them to my teen. The songs are just as relevant now as they were back then. The world still su cks but good music will always be remembered ❤
"Although the song 'Chop Suey' was too controversial for the radio, it still became a hit." How can that be? Oh yes, because there are 194 other countries on Earth besides the USA. And the band achieved gold or platinum status in almost all of them. That's why.
They were, and still are a huge part of my life. I am really happy for all of them.
1st time I saw them was Ozzfest 98. Hated them. But by 2002 they became one of my all-time favs. Steal This Album is definitely my favorite out of all of them. Every song is just so good!
Ego brain 👌
They probably made the best decision to stop on peak. Good for them!
The biggest reasons any band break up and reunion , money , ego and drugs
Lol toxicity is the most iconic. I was disappointed in serj being back up vocals in the later 2 albums
I saw them in 2002 at ozzfest Dallas Texas, they definitely rocked out
soooo we just gonna forget about Genocidal Humanoidz?
definitely overshadowed by protect the land
If Daron can put his ego in check then we may see another album.
But Daron is the ego of system
I love Serj's solo stuff, but something is lacking. They make me think of Queen vs Freddie solo. Freddie may have been a musical genius and an idea guy, but the band polished it all up to give us the iconic sound. Daron is good enough to go on his own, but he'll never be bigger than System.
It's crazy that a band that good can put out five albums and each one feels better than the previous one and I will say Steal This Album steps up from Toxicity.

The truth with this band is that there was never an actual "fall" as you say. They never got bad, they were always good. They just stopped and went their own ways. In my opinion its better than with most bands where they don't know when to call it quits.
"Chop Suey" was not off the Hypnotize/Mesmerize albums as stated. It was off the album Toxicity...
