''So much pain in that video..but you know, there's so much pain in the world. Who sings about it? Except metal bands.'' Jonathan Davis: ''That's right!!''
Too many people hear the aggression and instantly shrug it off as hollow, violent and evil. It's a very nuanced genre that requires a lot of understanding and open mindedness. Contrary to what almost every single person believes, metal has some of the most positive and uplifting messages I've ever heard from any medium in my entire life.
True... In my opinion FBE should actually get the elders to read some of the lyrics to these songs... They'll understand and appreciate Metal/whatever genre they play more.
The elder: "There's so much pain in that video. But you know there's so much pain in the world. Who sings about it except metal bands?" Jonathan Davis: "That's right!"
"It comes close to satanic". It's funny because it's actually the complete opposite. Jonathan never sings about that kind of stuff, almost all of their songs are about their personal feelings and experiences and their lyrics have some of the deepest meaning in all of metal music today. Unfortunately being a different genre than what they're used to some generations perceive it as something twisted and evil when it totally isn't. Such a shame.
I think what a lot of older folks might not get at first glance of a Korn video or song is it's not evil it's for people who have been victims of evil and are taking back their power. The horrifying imagery isn't in support or violence it's an outlet for grief and anger if you've been a victim of violence.
That’s absolute truth. I was drawn to this because of the violence and rage in my own life, from my family. Still struggle with PTSD every time I sleep. I guess that’s why I’m up at 4am

I wish they had explained the story behind the music. The outlet for the pain of someone that has gone or is going through similar experiences is what makes metal and rock bands so powerful.

Korn is a wonderful needed band. Without their music and their lyrics I would not be alive today and that is a fact I owe so much to them.
It's actually very sad because the reason they're so in love with bands like Korn is because the music of their era doesn't speak to them at all they love it nobody in the industry today is willing to talk about the horrible things still going on in the world we went right back to where we were in the early 90s these kids are crying for help.
Hey dude, I’m part of the demographic you guys are talking about and I just wanted to pitch my two cents. You’re right a lot of the music nowadays dm does not speak to us, just because of laziness I believe, and the steadily decreasing amount of talent in both lyrical and instrumental spheres necessary to be famous. But I also think there are PLENTY of fantastic and lyrically meaningful songs nowadays, take for example Hozier, I find a lot of artists who are fantastic, you simply have to dig! Also, I don’t think a lot of artists HAVE strayed away from talking about issues in our time, they’re just botching about something DIFFERENT, what is unfortunate, is a lot of the time it’s done in a sloppy lazy way that’s always second to the actual monitory value of the song itself. Which is terribly sad. Take for example RATM and SOAD, they did it so well, and pushed issues so well, whether you agreed with them or not they were fantastic activists, and passionate too, BECAUSE that was what there music was primarily about, activism, passion. Now, people seem to primarily do it for the cash, and then next, they make a twitter post trying to relate it to a belief of theirs and use the excuse “art is interpretive” as an excuse. Never really got into metal but I understand why the people who do are in love with it. It is one of the rawest forms of emotions being turned into music.
Well, he said them to give him a Walz after all. Maybe even 80's music is modern by his standards. Perhaps he would enjoy some symphonic metal band if they recommended it to him. xD
That 71 year old guy that claims to be "deep into metal" is approaching things the way that I think everybody should: with an open mind and an open heart.
Suicide by cop? I can’t tell if you are serious because I recognise that line from Rick and morty. But if serious I agree with you. Korn helped me through depression.
@@R3Dcovers Happens a lot more than people think. Sometimes folks can't bring themselves to do it themselves directly, but they can put themselves into situations where they threaten cops until they get shot.
This video is a very strong example of how a person's life and energy really shapes the type of music they can appreciate. I find that people who are highly empathethic or cogniscent of how life isn't a pretty and flower are able to better appreciate metal. Be able to process a lot of negative energy and frame its message into the world.
I really like the 71yr old guy who totally gets it. He seems very experienced in life and open minded. He also shows respect. He looks way younger too. Hope to be like him in 40 years when i’m his age lol
Your not meant to understand what’s being said your meant to understand the feeling they band is trying to give thats what makes metal superior to all music genres because it actually feels real and has real emotion
@@kingaidey Agreed because korn isn’t that hard to understand like freak on a leash you can hear what’s being said I was just referring to metal in general like some you can barely hear what’s being said
@@TheMCmace I was referring to a mass majority of metal not korn i only commented it here cause someone in the video mentioned metal being hard to understand
The guy with the glasses and the blue and white plaid button up gets it spot on. It's about admitting we're all going through awful stuff, but we all come together and own that and stomp and mosh the agressive feelings out. It's a cleansing experience. You leave it on the floor, and everyone walks, and sometimes limps away better for it. \m/
I hope to be as accepting at the redheaded woman is of current music when I’m her age. I suppose my love of metal isn’t understood by a lot of the generation and I don’t want to be like that. Side note: coming undone is my Song for when the kids drive me mad.
I would love to see another video of elders react to Korn, but this time have them see the lyrics and hear more about the members of Korn and how Jonothan is extremely religious
No, Jonathan is not extremely religious and has frequently talked about how he doesn't like organized religion. Head, one of the gutiarists, is who you are thinking of.
I think in these episodes they should incorporate a section where they dedicate time to reading the elders the lyrics so the poetry element can at least be appreciated.
@nietzsche It sure is. My dad and I would listen and watch metal band shows together when I was young, every Sunday morning when I was staying at his house. :D
I feel like the song meanings should be explained to them. There is so much misunderstanding. Most of the things that Korn sings has to do with their lives.
i am groot To each their own. I personally like Korn. I just feel that it may help understand the reason the song is sung or represented in the way shown through out each video.
I know I was disappointed. There perspective might have changed if they knew the meaning behind each lyric and music note. They might even have some respect for him. I know I sure do. He’s so brave and so strong to continue living in such pain. His music is so powerful. I feel all the hate, all the regret, every single tear and I too cry to his songs. I scream and jumps to the beat. Bc even tho I didn’t go through that kind of pain, I still know how it feels to want to die. And somehow he makes me feel better...
I'm not a metal fan, but I do appreciate good music and Korn does make good music. "Freak on a Leash" is still one of my all-time favorite music videos for its use of animation, cinematography and special effects.
Korn is that band for ppl who relate Istg like I relate to so many songs is honestly scary but I mean to me it’s free therapy korn has taught me to metal scream along with some other bands and something about korn kinda heals my heart like they’re awesome
YES finally someone said it. I use metal as a way to let out my anger and just raw emotions. that's why metal is poplar because people can relate to the emotion and things they are singing about
I love how they're all talking about how it's sick and twisted but Korn really just makes music about what people experience out in the vast world we live in
Metal is no longer part of that main stream, but it is no less popular than it has always been. People aren’t willing to actually listen to the music, and the lyrics, and the meanings behind the songs. Heavy metal is probably the most inspirational and powerful music in my opinion. It’s powerful musically and emotionally

@@Waking1 yeah well cannibal corpses music is terrible so that’s understandable
@@JB-5066 well everyone has different music tastes
Well, he said them to give him a Walz after all. Maybe even 80's music is modern by his standards. Perhaps he would enjoy some symphonic metal band if they recommended it to him. xD
That 71 year old guy that claims to be "deep into metal" is approaching things the way that I think everybody should: with an open mind and an open heart.
MetaliTransport I totally agree
Isn't he a father of two dudes running this show?
And yeah, I agree
"There's a lot of pain in this world and nobody talks about it except Heavy Metal."
This guy gets it.
Elders react to "Daddy" by Korn
Too much.
Berndern Lottet could be trueXD but interesting
Elders react to "Kunts!" by Korn
Yes.
Dude if I was there I would cry
Korn saved my life I was trying to commit suicide by cop and the cop wanted to talk about music and he played korn for me
Suicide by cop? I can’t tell if you are serious because I recognise that line from Rick and morty. But if serious I agree with you. Korn helped me through depression.
@@R3Dcovers I'm for real
@@R3Dcovers Bro💀 you fr say that it’s not real cause it’s in Rick and morty? Bro grow up, kinda fucked up
@@R3Dcovers Happens a lot more than people think. Sometimes folks can't bring themselves to do it themselves directly, but they can put themselves into situations where they threaten cops until they get shot.
take care.
Ralph B lol, im 31 myself and I said the exact same thing
i like the dude in the blue flannel and grey shirt
David Lopez that's their father lol
Don't we all
Your not meant to understand what’s being said your meant to understand the feeling they band is trying to give thats what makes metal superior to all music genres because it actually feels real and has real emotion
I dont even think korn is hard to understand
if you cant understand korn you need your ears checked
@@kingaidey Agreed because korn isn’t that hard to understand like freak on a leash you can hear what’s being said I was just referring to metal in general like some you can barely hear what’s being said
and korn is pretty good to understand
@@TheMCmace I was referring to a mass majority of metal not korn i only commented it here cause someone in the video mentioned metal being hard to understand
I'm 55 listened to Korn since I was 26. Love them!! Seen them live
I'm 26 and have listened to Korn since I was a toddler! My parents were into them :)
"I'm not a fan of modern music" This is 20 years old music.
The breakdown at the start of "Blind" still gives me chills
The guy with the glasses and the blue and white plaid button up gets it spot on. It's about admitting we're all going through awful stuff, but we all come together and own that and stomp and mosh the agressive feelings out. It's a cleansing experience. You leave it on the floor, and everyone walks, and sometimes limps away better for it. \m/
Is nobody going to comment on the woman saying "I like it....reminds me of my youth" with ADIDAS playing? That lady lived a full life!
I hope to be as accepting at the redheaded woman is of current music when I’m her age. I suppose my love of metal isn’t understood by a lot of the generation and I don’t want to be like that. Side note: coming undone is my
Song for when the kids drive me mad.
You are really beautiful
Would have been interesting to see them react to the song "Daddy" and let them know what the song was about..
Blue shirt grandpa, we need more people like you in this world
That Grandpa knows what the hell he's talking about.
The guy that looks like Stephen King is very insightful and open minded. Really appreciate that
its interesting that you didn't play their most disturbing song "daddy" but it makes sense we don't want a heart attack
Brian Welch** :)
@@forsakethelightyou don’t have to believe in organized religion to be extremly religious
I think in these episodes they should incorporate a section where they dedicate time to reading the elders the lyrics so the poetry element can at least be appreciated.
Oh wow, 2 elderly metalheads! :D
@nietzsche It's just that I wasn't expecting THEM to be metalheads ;) My dad's in his 60's and he's a metalhead too
@nietzsche It sure is. My dad and I would listen and watch metal band shows together when I was young, every Sunday morning when I was staying at his house. :D

I feel like the song meanings should be explained to them. There is so much misunderstanding. Most of the things that Korn sings has to do with their lives.
DarknessArizes does that make the band good or...? What does the meaning.. mean?
i am groot To each their own.
And somehow he makes me feel better...
lol @ the old man saying im not a fan of modern music, Most of the songs he just herd were around 20 years old haha
Courage68 ikr xDddd
It’s modern compared to music from the 1970s.
@@stigrabbid589 1970s were the musical shit though.
Boomers: Today's generation is so soft and sensitive!
meanwhile boomers listening to today's music:
Came here to say this lol
but most of this is 90s and 2000s
KoRn's core demographic are basically those born in the 1970s and 1980s, and who comprise most of the current parents with school-aged children now!
"There's so much pain in the world and who sings about it, except Metal bands." Now this is what it's all about.
jabbed me right in the feels i swear. what a great guy....gave that noise in my head a sentence to describe it
I'm not a metal fan, but I do appreciate good music and Korn does make good music.
I use metal as a way to let out my anger and just raw emotions. that's why metal is poplar because people can relate to the emotion and things they are singing about
thank you in advance for reacting to MAMAMOO!!

She's such a badass
we love korn
I love how they're all talking about how it's sick and twisted but Korn really just makes music about what people experience out in the vast world we live in
It's impressive how age doesn't give insight. Only one elder understood what he was watching because he wasn't judging after the first 10 seconds.
PicMus i wish that elder person with the round glasses was my grandpa
It seems to be a good choice hehe
Korn comes close to satanic? lmao they have no clue what they are talking about x'D
y, korn is pretty much as mainstream/normal to other music as metal gets.
4:25 This lady... Would she be my grandma? Loved her so much.
Korns one of my favorite bands

Metal is no longer part of that main stream, but it is no less popular than it has always been. People aren’t willing to actually listen to the music, and the lyrics, and the meanings behind the songs. Heavy metal is probably the most inspirational and powerful music in my opinion. It’s powerful musically and emotionally
Heath Sayre Facts💯
they are lucky you didn't make them listen to Daddy if they thought that those songs we're disturbing.
I honestly wish I was a teen during the nu metal era. Korn, Deftones, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Limp Bizkit, that would be amazing
It was awesome.
Yes it was! I turned 13 in 1998 and had the best soundtrack of my teenage years!
