Thank you for posting this video of the B Post repair. I have a 1980 Caddy with the exact same problem. I'm learning how to MIG weld now and will need to tackle this fix at some point after I get more experience with easier repairs. I've been looking for a video to explain how to do this and you came through. Thanks again!
Just discovered your channel mate .love what your doing with the caddy. Im in the middle of my 1990 mk1 golf cabriolet build just done the engine. Bodywork next .are you a fabricator? Your work is good .regards Dean
Thanks so much, that's awesome! I'm a trained mechanic and self-taught fabricator. Good luck with the cabriolet build, love those cars, nearly bought one a few years back just before they shot up in price. Cheers
Muchas felicidades. Muy buenos tus trabajos con mucha curiosidad calma a detalle todo un trabajo de primera muy artesanal. Saludos desde Iztapalapa cdmx.
Why did you chose not to weld the top of the rear 1/4 panel back into the structure of the b post? The b post is going to have lots more chance of flexing near where the original joint was with no support from the rear.
Dommage que la ligne entre le montant et la benne n’ait pas été conservée. J’ai la même chose sur le mien, et j’ai pour projet de remettre ça d’origine. En tout cas, beau travail !
Fantastic work! I'm always amazed when I see welded sheet metal ground down, and it looks like part of the original sheet metal! BTW - on an unrelated topic, I noticed you have electric steering installed on the Caddy. Was that a kit, or something lifted from another vehicle? Got a Mk1 Jetta that I'd like to do the same to. Is it worth the money and the work?
Cheers for the comment! The power steering build was our last video before this one 😀 Haven't tried it out yet so no idea if it's good but fingers crossed, we had a similar kit that we bought for our T25 and that was really good.
Was going that deep necessary? Ever heard of Tectal? It looks like solidified fat in a pan but it really prevents all these unreachable areas to rust further but good job nonetheless.
Ha! We literally spend all our time in the workshop, as soon as customer work is done we're working on the caddy filming, it helps that there's 2 of us so Mat does all the fabrication work then Len does all the filming and editing 👍😀
Cheers for the comment, I will chop it out and do the same on the other side as it looks the same as this side, but when we bought it the seam was filled anyway so we could have just filled it again 👍
@@RotboxMetalworks I see. I have a Caddy too. The chassis unfortunatelly has as much movement to crack the sealing/filler there. But if you will do the same matalwork on the other side, that will work for sure
Absolute craftsman fair play to you. Looking forward to seeing the finished Caddy. If your interested in having a look at mine I'm on Instagram @adamfulwell. Keep up the with the videos 👍
Mat i hope to god you have another indepth project in the pipe line once this SLAMMED caddy is complete. I need my Rotbox fix 😂 amazing work as always..... Whens the new Merch going to drop? You need some clothing online, christmas is only weeks away 🎄 and i need a new Hoodie😎
@@rosshovvels5305 haha, cheers! We do have some ideas for what's next after the slammed caddy but nothing's set in stone, what would you want to see more of? We're open to suggestion 😂 Merch? Coming soon! Maybe. Need to work on some new designs. 👍

All he did was cut out surface rust🤦Provided it wasn't badly pitted I would have just treated it
And remade the outside skin
How do you find the time to both film and work on the car along with daily job and life in general ?

Hi I wanted to tell you what I did to my caddy, back My back brakes was from Golf 5 and there was disc
Awesome!
The hand brake was on the disk on Golf 5
Hey man great video! What is the dish for the Grinder called you are using at 11:52? Thanks :)
Cheers! Do you mean the orbital sander?
@@RotboxMetalworks Hmm I meant the disk for the angelgrinder you are using from 11:52 to 11:58.
@@EpicHoti yeah that's an orbital sander, not a grinder- different tool mate!👍
Oh okay, looked like a grinder kind of. Thanks :)
Muito bom, parabéns! (Brasil)
Nice job, but Iam curious what will you do on the other side to make it similar? (Iam referring to the panel joint that you have weld through) Br,
Cheers for the comment, I will chop it out and do the same on the other side as it looks the same as this side, but when we bought it the seam was filled anyway so we could have just filled it again 👍
