Douglas was at his best, but very clearly Tyson from opening bell was at his worst! No spring in legs. No hand speed, no combos, stood in front of Douglas and made Douglas look good! Tyson like a champ reaching for mouth piece while hurt, Douglas in rd 3 of next fight taking out mouth piece and quitting
Truly an immortalized moment in the sport. Buster Douglas' achievement on his night will never ever be forgotten. Not only because he pulled off an upset that nearly nobody predicted, but despite all the setbacks leading into the fight it did not stop him. If anything it, they were the fuels that drove him to this unforgettable triumph!
The thing with tyson is that his early style of fighting , peekaboo etc , constant knee bends side to side movement etc is very tireing especially as you get older .. what most of his fans didn't realise is that it's very hard to constantly fight that way as a heavyweight, I watched tyson from the beginning and my uncle told me tyson will not be able to keep up that style of fighting as he gets older... he was right... my uncle was a very knowledgeable guy when it came to boxing..
Great analysis. Agreed entirely. Tyson had to do the right things at all times to make up for his lack of size. He did that early in his career but did not later and it cost him. Some guys could get away with doing things the wrong way, Ali or Foreman comes to mind but they had physical advantages.
@@StreetStoriesEnt as he got older it was harder bro. He is a heavyweight! Cannot maintain thst style for 12rds. Watch the bonecrusher smith fight and tucker fighter were in his prime he is taken the distance.
great story!! This was the first boxing match I ever watched. My dad actually bought the pay per view...another first for us. He wanted me to see Tyson the Invincible. I saw THIS. It was a good introduction to boxing, honestly
Tyson, just before this fight, fired Kevin Rooney and replaced his entire team with Don King's friend and family. This fight became the pattern for the rest of his career. It's to bad.
dont forget that a loss of love makes you realise what matters in life ... and when its time to fight .. you dont giive aa foooook about what happens ..... regardless of partying and everything else ... tyson knew the FIRE buster had for this fight .. he knew from losing CUS early on ..and he knew the flame of love was coming like a train towards him ... tyson loved cus and knew the feeling of that loss ... its all about love bois remember that
Naw fam, he fought a drunk Mike Tyson's here, mike wanted to rematch buster Sober, but buster ran away, and literally LAID DOWN , against holifield, thought about getting up, but stayed down, to collect his money and was never heard from again....
Noticeably Tyson is not in his usual boxing style, that bobbing and weaving is not there, he look lost all through the fight. But you still give credit to Douglas, his approach on offense of not giving Tyson an inch to recover is incredibly delivered. The follow up after uppercut is extra ordinary.
Not many people watched this fight but everyone remembers vividly when they first became privy to the outcome. It was difficult to fathom. Never underestimate what a man losing his mother can do to his soul. It clearly raised Douglas to a different level not seen before or since that fight.
the prior 2 fights were tell tale signs that Tyson should've taken him serious ... he KO'd a favored Mike Williams and won a hard fight against Oliver McCall The first man to beat & ko Lennox Lewis... and McCall was a tough Tyson sparring partner. The guy that developed this Douglas is Richie Giacceti... but he wasn't getting paid. The crazy move that Douglas does is the minute second after they're separated in a clinch he starts to attack... especially in the 9th where Larry Merchant yells Mike is hurt... to Douglas' credit Mike hit after the bell in literally all his fights and was known to throw elbows Haha... Mike Tyson flat on his ass
The man promised his momma he would beat Tyson and tho she passed away before the fight. Douglas was absolutely not going to break that promise cuz he knew just how much it meant to his momma. Beautiful display of determination and devotion to go against all odds and to not be defeated
Mike is not in shape here. It shows. He is sluggish, slow, soft looking. Not in shape & not motivated. This was way below his potential & Douglas probably fought his best fight for an inferior fighter
absolutely. compare this to a Tyson fight from 1985-1988 and it's obvious that he's not ready for this fight. He got beat but he also didn't bring his best by any stretch.
Tyson looked so disengaged with all of it, especially when they would brake where there was no bounce in his step on the ready. If you loved Mike like we did back in the day when we witnessed this live then you would’ve felt just like me so sad and so much pain to watch him in this fight knowing that if Cuz was there.... well let’s just say we still love you Mike.
Mike Tyson prime years were different he still could have been the most dominate heavyweight of all time you see Mike Tyson was all about skills when he was with cus but after that it was all about being an animal & conquerer along with aggression & bad lifestyle outside of boxing to wear the body doesn’t respond they way you want it to if Mike kept on polishing his skills history would be different
@@BoxOf0121 Tyson could never have the dominant type of career that Ali, Lennox Lewis, or Tyson Fury had. He was washed up even before he was 30. He never dominated the fighting world like the 3 mentioned here.
I remember telling my father that Buster was going to win this fight. He said, "Are you crazy that's Mike tyson." I said, so he's not scared of Tyson like everyone else was.
Tyson whined about Holyfield using his head. This fight just like every other he uses his head and elbows as weapons, especially once he starts getting hit.
Tyson said in"Undisputed Truth"that his corner said,:”You've got to close the gap,get inside and get UNDER his jab!!" Mike said he frustratedly replied:"Why don't-------YOU get in there and get under his jab?!? This guy has a TWELVE-inch reach-advantage on me!!😂
Here there are, the best heavy fight of all times: 1). Ali - Foreman , Zaire 1974 2). Marciano- Walcott, Phill 1952 3). Ali- Frazier, Manila 1975 4). Douglas- Tyson, Tokyo 1990. 5) Clay- Liston. Miami 1.964.
Pfft BS! You just name this one and a few main media named classics. Pic one of the Bowe/Holyfield trilogy or prob 2, 3. AlivsFrazier is way more of superior boxing, Foreman was just punching wide and sloppy and Ali let him tiring out. Also Lewis/Holyfield was hard and good fighting
The ignored beauty of this fight is you have one guy fighting with anger, and frustration, probably some hate, and you have a guy fighting for love, and love won the fight. James Douglas' dedicated this whole training camp and fight to his at the time recently deceased Mom, and his love for his Mom, and it worked! He showed how much she meant to him that night!! ❤
Not excuses but a fact That from opening Bell mike was completely flat! HE showed none of skills, stationary target, no hand speed, 1 punch at a time, no footwork..Anyone who seen all his fights will tell you
All throughout Mike Tyson’s carrier the media and announcers have talked down about how he fights or calling him fat yet he was one of if not the best boxers in history. Mike’s whole life has been like this. He fought to stay up while the whole world tried to kick him down.
Throughout his early career the media kissed his ass, not sure what you are talking about. At some point Tyson didn't prepare and was overweight and raped and acted like a thug and bit an ear and went to jail. Thankfully he turned it all around, thanks to DMT and mushrooms.
Whiners keep thinking Tyson won. This full fight shows who was better. Look at the number of punches Tyson received and vice versa. Tyson was clearly weakened. He was extremely lucky with his uppercut. Also, compare the way Buster and Tyson get up. Tyson was off balance, Buster wasn't. Everyone knew it was a matter of time Tyson would be knocked out. Too many punches landed. When you get so many punches, you lose stamina and accuracy. This is what happened to Tyson. Stop cheerleading and start analyzing the fight.
Mike was physically there, but mentally, he was somewhere else. I watched that fight live on pay per view, and it was really a shock to see Mike defeated.
Buster had more on his mind than Mike had. His mom had just passed away three weeks before this fight. He even said that this really interrupted his training due to having so many things to take care of. But he was determined to SHOCK THE WORLD, which is what he promised him momma that he'd do. And he did it.
I distinctly remember after the nba allstar game in 1990, after commercial, the commentator (don't remember who) said something to the effect of , " If you thought this was amazing, wait'll you hear this. Mike Tyson has been knocked out." It was the most unreal, just weird thing to hear. Mike Tyson was literally thought of as invincible. It was also late at night, which added to the weirdness.
34:11 - You can count with the video's timer, from the time Douglas went down until he stood up was 14 seconds. The ref's slow count surely helped, it could've easily have been a KO.
I won't take anything away from Buster Douglas, but you can tell Tyson did not have that killer look at all, all of the other fights he fought, he would basically win the fight before they started during the introductions....Tyson was not in shape, he came in like who cares! Just my two cents...and I did watch this fight in 1990 when i was in the Phillippines

Underrated fight tbh, Douglas fought fantastically well.
How is it underrated? This fight is famous even among non fans.
The result is famous yes, however the actual fight itself was underrated imo.@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017
Buster destroyed Tyson and not had luck. That jab Tyson never can’t take it off. Great
Like Larry Holmes Ali and Liston with the boss jab

Exactly. People get too tied up on counts and bullshit. Buster was the better man that night and beat Mike up bad
Bullshit, if the Ref was a Pro, things would've been different good or bad for Mike.
Buster's mom died and he said he was fighting for her, never underestimate that.
@@nathanielgathing659 nothing could have saved Mike except a lot more preparation.

💯 agreed
He didnt use the peek a boo like he did when he first came he really didnt use it at all just flashes of it when he got mad
“As he gets older? He was 23 in this fight.”

The most beautiful ass whooping of all time. I like how Douglas looked him directly in the eye after every round like, " What's up " ?
In my town in Africa I was the only Douglas supporter and after the fight I ran away. Couldn't risk celebrating.
Tyson, just before this fight, fired Kevin Rooney and replaced his entire team with Don King's friend and family. This fight became the pattern for the rest of his career. It's to bad.
dont forget that a loss of love makes you realise what matters in life ... and when its time to fight .. you dont giive aa foooook about what happens ..... regardless of partying and everything else ... tyson knew the FIRE buster had for this fight .. he knew from losing CUS early on ..and he knew the flame of love was coming like a train towards him ... tyson loved cus and knew the feeling of that loss ... its all about love bois remember that
Wrong year
The ref was too quick to step in a lot of the times, especially in rnd 9 on the ropes
Douglas let Tyson to lick the boxing floor . Douglas really taught him good lesson and his smartness went into dust .
He was partying and on coke.. Mike tyson definitely wasn't there
That's exactly what I saw. Buster looked good but he will never be as good as Tyson. Everybody has a bad day

Not many people watched this fight but everyone remembers vividly when they first became privy to the outcome. It was difficult to fathom. Never underestimate what a man losing his mother can do to his soul. It clearly raised Douglas to a different level not seen before or since that fight.
Or a man losing his father. You can't beat raw emotion.
He clearly lost in the eighth
the prior 2 fights were tell tale signs that Tyson should've taken him serious ... he KO'd a favored Mike Williams and won a hard fight against Oliver McCall The first man to beat & ko Lennox Lewis... and McCall was a tough Tyson sparring partner.
The guy that developed this Douglas is Richie Giacceti... but he wasn't getting paid.
The crazy move that Douglas does is the minute second after they're separated in a clinch he starts to attack... especially in the 9th where Larry Merchant yells Mike is hurt... to Douglas' credit
Mike hit after the bell in literally all his fights and was known to throw elbows

Mike is not in shape here. It shows. He is sluggish, slow, soft looking. Not in shape & not motivated. This was way below his potential & Douglas probably fought his best fight for an inferior fighter
Tyson was flat footed and lacked his signature head movement... He lacked spark/energy from the opening bell.
absolutely. compare this to a Tyson fight from 1985-1988 and it's obvious that he's not ready for this fight. He got beat but he also didn't bring his best by any stretch.

Yep. Tyson depends on that uppercut. Bout all he had or will ever have. Not a hatter, just it is,is what it is.
He used the clinch too.
Holyfield was notorious for headbutting tie ups.
Preparation wins bouts. Tyson was unprepared. Douglas was fighting for his dead Mom.

Standing in front of the iron mike within few rounds is a history..
Iron Mike proved to me that .there isnt anybody knocked flat . Buster was the better fighter that day .
The drama on each side that played out in Round 8 always brings a tear to my eyes.
At first you win a fight in your head and Tyson lost it way before the first punch was thrown.
He had a plan until Buster punched him hard and wasn't afraid.
Buster Douglas was masterfull.. No one could take away his epic victory..
Here there are, the best heavy fight of all times:
1). Ali - Foreman , Zaire 1974
2). Marciano- Walcott, Phill 1952
3). Ali- Frazier, Manila 1975
Rocky VS Drago -1985 👍
Good list. This fight is one of my favs. I saw it live and always rooted against Tyson.
Depends on how you see the "best" I thought lyle vs foreman was a pretty entertaining one,Holmes vs Norton, Holmes vs Mercer as well.
@@olivermeier2949 that's right!. Even Quarry vs Norton was a Very good one!
The comments section is full of Tyson fanboys making excuses for his loss . What a shame
Not excuses but a fact That from opening Bell mike was completely flat! HE showed none of skills, stationary target, no hand speed, 1 punch at a time, no footwork..Anyone who seen all his fights will tell you
Wow at last Tyson came down.Up up Douglas. For bringing Tyson down you are a hero.
All throughout Mike Tyson’s carrier the media and announcers have talked down about how he fights or calling him fat yet he was one of if not the best boxers in history. Mike’s whole life has been like this. He fought to stay up while the whole world tried to kick him down.
Like when he raped that woman? Yeah the whole world is keeping him down. Tyson is a simple minded animal, nothing more.
Your spelling is terrible. You make people stupid reading your post.
Throughout his early career the media kissed his ass, not sure what you are talking about. At some point Tyson didn't prepare and was overweight and raped and acted like a thug and bit an ear and went to jail. Thankfully he turned it all around, thanks to DMT and mushrooms.
@ 2:32
See that guy on the right by the ropes holding the flag? He's the reason Tyson fell.

It was also late at night, which added to the weirdness.
34:11 - You can count with the video's timer, from the time Douglas went down until he stood up was 14 seconds. The ref's slow count surely helped, it could've easily have been a KO.
