Bro I got shut down by final boss too and had to come back and fall in love with the game! I was playing it like Bloodborne didn’t learn Mikiri counter or really understand the deflect system. Can’t believe I got that far without them! 😂
I think the mist raven ability makes Owl Father more complex and is pretty fair once you learn the timing. He's honestly my favorite boss in Sekiro even when compared to Isshin Sword Saint. Probably one of fromsoft's best fights.
Hot Take: I think the 4 monkey's is a good boss fight. It is a different way to learn the patterns besides reacting to moves. Sure you're not going to die and it has the biggest drop-off in subsequent playthroughs, but it offers a different way of "learning the boss" that I would like to see improved upon. One of their better "puzzle fights".
Not a hot take. They serve their purpose. They are a unique and interesting take on boss fights, and this list isn't about that. This seems more about how to exploit bosses to death after you've played the game several times.
@@blazenfate I know what the list is about, just wanted to say that, because I see more people dumping on them than praising them, but maybe I just haven't been in the right circles.
Respect for posting an opinion that is actually a hot take. That said, I think puzzle bosses have no place in fromsoft games. Navigating a puzzle dungeon is fine, but bosses should be bosses IMO.
@@H01YD1V3R I can understand that opinion and normally, they just aren't good, but having one or two is fine, as long as it still feels built for the game's mechanics. This is your list and your free to make it however you wish, but personally I don’t think it’s fair to judge a boss by how exploitable their AI is most players I’d say 90% wouldn’t take advantage of these exploits for 2 reasons. 1) most of the times these exploits need someone whose mastered the game already like a speedrunner to pull them off as they aren’t easy and require alot of mastery. 2) players don’t like cheesing bosses because it isn’t fun or satisfying no one wants to trivialize the highest peak of challenge in the game (saint isshin) if you have the resilience to reach the end of the game through all the bs it throws at you there ain’t no way in hell your cheesing the final boss and robbing yourself of the satisfaction of beating him at his best. Also this feels like cherry picking putting the monks at the bottom of the list because of how exploitable they are and putting demon of hatred at number 5 when he’s arguably the easiest boss in the game with exploits even more so than the folding screen monkeys and way faster too given that you can literally one shot him in 5 seconds by yeeting him of the map.
That's the point of the list tho. A list from the perspective of someone who has played the game to death and knows the exploit. He has regular and even community ranking videos from a while ago that is more from a regular players perspective.
19:50 Hard disagree. The mist raven counter is there to punish mindless r1 spam, just like how Sword Saint Isshin can hyperarmor through your attacks during his spear phase. Its not that hard to react to either because it's always the same 2 slashes
Yeah, that's what I did when I first fought him, figured it out pretty quick. Also, I'm fairly certain you can still perfect deflect Sakura dance to avoid chip dmg, though the timing is 5 kinds of pain. My favorite trick against regular Genichiro is just smacking him any time he tries to jump back to shoot arrows. FUNNY.
Man your souls ranking vids are super nostalgic for me... thanks for going through and making vids for the games again, really takes me back to when i was a preteen and never played a single souls game yet still watched these kinds of vids all the time lol
One of the best combat systems in a game I've ever played. It's just so damn technical and satisfying *Isshin the Sword Saint took me three days to beat. By far the hardest boss i ever endured in a fromsoft game, alongside Loran Darkbeast in the cursed chalice dungeon of bloodborne (which also took me literally 3 days to finally beat)
I think Demod is being too cute with some of these new rankings just to make them different. I get it's supposed to be from a seasoned perspective, but some placements are still head scratching.
I love this veteran ranking series. Very hyped to see some other games here. Not sure if you have any interest in the Warhammer 40k Space Marines 2 games, but i imagine you'd be able to do some amazing narrative or boss ranking videos for that
fun fact, technically corrupted monk's first fight is a mix of phase 1 and phase 3 moves, most noticeable being the fact false monk uses the spin to win attack from phase 3
The problem with your bosses ranking is always that you compare them not from a first playthrough point of view which is just lame and undermine the real challenge of understand and learning the patterns and the timing. Like Genichiro took way more time to beat than other bosses in this list, because at that point, you are still learning the mecanics of the game.
I almost feel like the Door Strats for Genichiro and Owl are Fromsoft's apologies for the top of Ashina Castle otherwise being a lackluster arena. Yes it's great in terms of lore and symbolism, but it's just too small for my liking. Most of the other Arenas are much, much bigger to highlight Sekiro's mobility, so a cramped encounter definitely feels off.
I got the platinum trophy on Sekiro when it came I was so proud that by my final playthrough it only took me 4 hours and 3 total deaths to clear the game.
I mean your ranking is valid as always, but some of these are definitely based on having already played the game knowing certain exploits/cheeses/strategies, not particularly based on moveset and the experience of having to figure out the fights in realtime. 😊
In my charmless+bell run, I think Gyoubu and Lady Butterfly caused me the most difficulty. Turns out, Ashina Castle lets you power up significantly lol
Hesistation is Defeat. Funnily enough, there's 17 bosses in the original run. Three added and three removed. Since the ranking is even, I'll keep the old bosses but I'll mark them with an asterisk. Hi, sorry for the unrelated question, but recently I was searching for your boss breakdown of Ludwig (which was super cool and a pleasure to watch). Is it just me or the video is no longer available?
You forgot to say that this is a list based on an experienced player's perspective that knows all the exploits and cheese strats. Comments dont seem to realize that.
Ever since getting a PS5 I've been on the fence about rebuying Sekiro on it... on one hand the performance of the PS5 removes the frame issues of my aging PC... on the other hand skill issues remain, and I'm just not quite sure those can be overcome enough to actually finish this game... leading me to be hesitant to spend the money (especially with it still being $100AUD base price on the PlayStation Store) to buy it again after getting it full price on release on PC and never being able to finish it.
At first i thought you put Inner Father at 6th place and was ready to call bullshit on that one before i realized it's Owl father. Overall the list is basically the same as mine (disregarding cheese strats that i never use like with corrupted monk or Genichiro). Inner father is imo tied for 1st place of the hardest Fromsoft bosses with both Malenia and Consort Radahn.
Gyobu should be lower I think, since the skip is pretty easy. I know the list assumes you fight the bosses mostly, but Corrupted Monk and Ape duo is based on the cheese strats.
Hard disagree with Lady butterfly placement wise if we’re taking exploits like Owl door into account than the much easier to pull of Step R1 stunlock or butterfly makes her easier than even divine dragon in my opinion.
Sekiro is arguably the hardest base game boss wise. There's no real... Trick beyond what you're given. Very little level up oppertunities etc. You can use buffs like the other games, but thats about it. It just takes good skill and knowledge
Lmao corrupted monk ghost was the hardest boss for me and I’m not even joking. I railed true corrupted monk my first try but encountering the ghost version early took me FOREVER

Yeah I don't quite get the judgements here. He puts Genichiro and Owl pretty far down on the list because they have an easy cheese, then he puts Lady Butterfly in top 10 and Demon in top 5 when the first can be sweep attack spammed and the second can be instantly killed by hiding behind a tree before climbing a bit and hanging off a ledge? He doesn't even mention the cheeses for them in the video either. Really weird judgements with this one.
