I find it hilarious that the film starts with "Every nation on Earth immediately put aside their differences to send their soldiers and civilians to certain death in an unwinnable war against aliens," but then the film ends with "what? The nations of the world couldn't possibly work together to fight an impending alien threat."

    • @chomp7927
      @chomp7927 3 ปีที่แล้ว +34

its dumb but they explained it a bit because everyone was onboard for a while with the future people giving them weekly intel. Then when the time link was broken because we lost they fell into chaos because at that point everyone knows it's all over, just a matter of time. That would make sense in that moment. Sure eventually the world would nut up and militarize even harder but on that day or two right after news broke it would be madness for a bit. As for not investigating a lead for the guy that brought back the key to humanity, that one was hard to believe. Someone would start barking up that tree somewhere in the coalition, especially since at that time that would be the only shred of intel that breeds hope.

    • @AverageGamerXP

I think that's a plausible analysis because humanity would 100% band together against a immediate extinction level threat against humanity, but once you say hey we've found thier exact location and we have the advantage. Now there's time to monopolize the creatures, do unorthodox experimenting on the creatures, secretly do this and that with the creatures. Governments are not to be trusted with type of information.

The way I remember it, they don't have much time with the time bridge they created. They move in time at the same pace. Basically once they landed the time kept going forward in both present and future. Meaning they still were on borrowed time until the aliens destroy the time machine.
Now, why didn't they send researchers, samples and data to give earth 30 years to get ready is a good question.

They claim that it's hard to kill the monsters at first, just to show us how they quite literally kill them super easy, they say that the scientists of the future didn't find their origin even tho any scientist worth their salt would be able to figure out what they themselves figured out, Chris goes on and on about how he won't leave hes daughter and wants to save her but that doesn't make any god damn sense, it's the most stupid moment in the movie since she won't even exist since that timeline does not exist at all, it was just a source of cringe every time he said he wouldn't leave her and he would save her yada yada crap plothole, there are a lot more that made this a garbage movie but those were the biggest irks for me and my sister, usually with these kind of movies you just turn of your brain and enjoy it, but they ACTUALLY gave such dumb explanations for everything that we just couldn't brush it off as you usually do with dumb action like the Rambo movies, not like you gonna critique Rambo movies based on the science it has if any, and that's the point: Tomorrow War TRIES to explain the plot, but ends up creating plotholes that are incredibly stupid.

Alien hunting was well made, but i prefer "hell strange milion years old specie from below earth, respinsible for extinction events etc". They should make ending with more lairs, and information about many more ancient underground species, this would be cool.

Only using their projectile attack occasionally(We know they can rapidly fire it, as seen by the rows of them on the lab walls). Makes you wonder why they didn't send everyone with high caliber rifles in the first place.
Realistically those aliens shouldn't even have gotten anywhere near as far as they did since they are unable to fly and some advanced gunships from 20 years in the future with drone support could take all the time they need to shoot them from a safe distance.

@SP That's kind of how I would re-write the whole time travel thing. This would be a different timeline scenario where they can travel to the past, but the timelines split and whatever happens in the past won't change their future.
So the time travelers will come back in time and say... "Guys, listen, in 30 years an alien force will invade Earth. We're loosing the war and need troops. In exchange for you giving us an army, we will give you everything we know about the aliens so that you can better prepare and maybe prevent the invasion."

That doesn’t explain why they decided to send through barely trained civilians with guns into a war zone. Most of them didn’t even have uniforms. What that should have had at the ‘past’ time-gate was ready trained and assembled elite rapid response teams comprised of Special Forces. We know not all of them were killed in the first wave. If for some reason these guys are all dead, then you have conscripted civilians who use to be soldiers waiting to be deployed for just such an emergency. I loved this film, but sending untrained civies who don’t even know how to load their guns just makes them liabilities to those assets you already have in the field.

You can not say that they had plenty of time because they were in the past. That is not how time travel works in this film, which they explain. Time keeps flowing. Thursday in the past is still Thursday in the future, but exactly 28 years later. If they wait an extra day in the past, an extra day passes in the future. The longer they take in the past, the longer it takes them to arrive in the future. I think they didn't get uniforms though because they were out of resources. The future has no resources left and the past has sent so many millions of people into the war that there just aren't any more uniforms to give out. Plus the military knows those people are going to die so why bother wasting resources on them beyond the bare essentials like a rifle and a side arm. Even their guns were crappy. Assuming all the good weapons got sent in early and they have whatever is still left.

Statistically that would only make sense with like 20-30 million drafts for the US, so thats around the number it was prob meant to be.
Just as an additional verification they also said all military personal (from past) was already used up, thats hundrets of thousands of people for the US alone.
And in the movie they say the civilian drafting has much higher numbers then the military personal was before that, so according to that alone it has to be *at least* a couple million in civilians (from the US alone).

For example, they say they’re giving them a week to train (for whatever reason), they dont get it because they need help to get these vital assets. Then they introduce this idea that the transfer was messed up and dropped them in the wrong place (because whatever), and introduces their mission that makes or breaks the war, but IMMEDIATELY introduce an airstrike to blow all that vital information away. Forester is introduced as being in command, so then who ordered that airstrike that she cant stop? Why would that airstrike take priority over the war-ending resources? Even how they drafted people, and why people go back and forth are only implied explanations, and are contradicted soon after they explain them.

There were plenty of bad character decisions and cliché plot points, but the logic of the film holds up for the most part. If you think of it as two parallel universes that are trading personnel and resources, there isn’t necessarily a paradox. The only piece that doesn’t work is that the young soldiers that got trapped in the past now will exist in the same universe as themselves as babies. The explanation of the wormholes as evenly spaced rafts on a river was spot on. And even little things make sense, like why Pratt was put in charge right away when he first answered the comm. It was his daughter on the other end, so she already knew about his military experience and leadership qualities. Again, there was plenty of silliness in this film, but I think it was pretty logically consistent for the most part.

Alex doesn't understand the way they handled time in the movie. One week in the future is the same as one week in the past. They both move forward at the same rate. That's why they rushed the Civies into the future with limited/no preparation or time to gear up fully, because their facility that held the McGuffin was under attack. Preventing the attack in the past also does nothing to prevent it in the future timeline. That is why they are all prepared to die to make sure it gets back to the past, because they know they are fucked and they want to at least save the other timeline. They knew they couldn't mass produce enough toxin to save the last 500,000 people in time.

"YES!!" "I hate it when that happens!" I was fine with the movie up until then - had "suspension of disbelief" for time travel, was enjoying the movie, but then the aliens appear - everyone has magazines with a nearly infinite supply of ammo!
This happens a LOT in movies and TV, but this was just laughable. (At least they didn't have the pistols make a metallic sound when they are raised, which ALWAYS happens on TV shows. Once again - "I hate it when that happens!").
AND ANOTHER THING with regards to guns and ammo. The soldiers that come back to 2022 KNOW that the aliens are only vulnerable in their throats and abdomens (and that they put their bullet resistant heads and bodies down to protect themselves). So why didn't they have the people armed with armor piercing bullets, and bullets of higher caliber instead of the mostly ineffective .223 or 5.56 that the people were issued?
The were some other things that didn't make sense, but, overall - I really enjoyed the movie. I especially thought the accompanying orchestral music and overall sound effects were terrific. If you didn't watch it using quality headphones or speakers - you really missed out.

Why were they bombing it again? Just seemed like handwave dialogue. "I can't call it off." Well, okay... bomb the city because... Everyone there is dead... why are you bombing it? Justification to some of the plot points they seem to have missed:
    1. About the clothes, the comic relief guy points it out about him not being able to keep his cargo shorts but his graphic tee is fine while the future lady is talking, and he comments about missing what she said since we can't hear her while he is talking.
    2. Training, time skips forward a bit after the whole recruitment pitch that shows some gun training. The civilian recruits could have potentially received some training during this.
    3. Time paradox, time travel in this movie was never fully explained. It appeared they were only pulling people that died before the invasion to avoid any risk. But the end of the future section shows there are most likely 2 separate timelines.
    4. The one thing that was explained about time travel is that due to the way the system works. Time moves forward at the same pace in the future as it does in the past. Hence we they don't send people to the start of the invasion.
    5. The alien they fight away from the ship was the queen. The whole reason they had to go through the process of working on the toxin is because they had a toxin before that worked on all of the soldier aliens, but not the queen. Hence why they wanted to use it on her at the end to make sure she died. J.K. Simmons even comments "we should go after it before it lays an egg or something".
    6. Blowing the ship, while blowing it up would most likely kill most of the aliens they run the risk of some surviving. So they went in to kill them with the toxin. My issue with this is why didn't they inject the queen, that was bigger and in the center of the room, first.

@N BD Consistency could fall under realism as well as believability and so on. I think you missed the point of the movie if you thought that wasn't intended. They were desperate so they started scraping the bottom of the barrel for anyone and everyone. They even mentioned that it wasn't about winning, it was about buying time. You think if they came from the future and was like.. "Oh we are just using you guys to buy time, you're completely expendable and we aren't going to actually win this war" that it would be good to convince anyone to go? They even say that if they showed them what the creatures looked like that it would be impossible to get anyone to go, so you know it's not above them to hide the truth for their own needs. As for what they were wearing, that was completely intended, and it was meant to be humorous and meant to depict desperation, which is why they even pointed it out in the movie. The script isn't dumb, it just wasn't a movie for you and that's fine. If you really want to point out something dumb, you could ask why they didn't do more to alter the future rather than fight a war in the future.
