  • The North Downs way is a long distance footpath through Surrey to the Kent Coast at Dover. It is 156 miles long, including a loop via Canterbury at the eastern end. The path runs along the chalk ridge of the North Downs and despite going through one of the most built up parts of Britain, it still takes in plenty of quiet open and beautiful countryside. The path was opened in 1978, making 2005 the 27th year of it's existence. Almost all of the walk is within easy access of London and has good transport links.
    Between Merstham and Oxted you will enjoy the continuing variation of England's version of the Appalacian Trail (The Green Tunnel) with views over the South Downs, the High Weald AND the M25. This was a short day with not much to show for itself other than some random helicopters, small planes and the continuing beauty of the Surrey North Downs as the trail joins with the Vanguard Way

    Afternoon CJ, another beauty of a trail and video. We are with you on the road walking, find it a right ole trudge and a pain I the feet! Loved the compassion of this trail to th AT trail, the tree cover was amazing! I think of struggle to get Kat out of the woods lol! The fallen tree was really cool, and probably a new home to many different species of wildlife. Great stuff, thanks CJ ❤🤗 👍catch you soon, Ceri and Kat ☕⛰🌲

      Thanks guys...love that you get the comparison with the AT although not a trail that speaks to me like the PCT or CDT (both of which I've spent time on or around). Catch up with you guys soon...take care.

    Plenty of great views south between the trees - you passed close to my house along here!

      The views definitely improved further along, although Cuxton to Bearstead felt like a never-ending green tunnel and it was also a day I was really struggling and needed something to be a distration

    The close of the licky dog was magic. I wonder if the collies navigate by hedgerow also. Cuddles all round at 9:45. Great video as always. 👍

    How long does it take you to realise if you have taken a wrong turn? And how do you know you’re not going along the correct path?

    • @WilderhopeAdventures
      @WilderhopeAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What a question...and a good question at that! Honestly it doesn't take me too long to realize I'm going the wrong way; it's easier in the US as high passes and contours are pretty obvious and it's tough to stray off trail. I've always had a good sense of direction and if something feels wrong (which it quickly does) I check the map and my GPX file; I have multiple backups in the UK that help me check my location
