NORTH DOWNS WAY: Day 4 - Oxted to Otford

  • The walk on the North Downs Way from Oxted to Otford was not my favorite 12 miles of the trail because of the farmland walking, but it still held some gorgeous hidden gems. The joy of hiking such a wooded trail in October is that I was surrounded by the gorgeous colors of autumn almost the whole way, and the golden colors almost made up for the lack of golden sun.
    The Oxted to Otford section has the most awkward end to beginning public transport links and to save money I went via Tonbridge vs going into London and back out again.

    I'm so glad I waited until I had time to watch all of this series so far in one go, I love autumn, it's my favourite time of year, it's not just the colours, the smells of autumn bring me real joy, I can't wait for the 5th one

    Another lovely walk & video. Had to laugh as I was admiring the quality of trails when you said they were difficult. Come to Dartmoor and you’ll love the Downs trails. 👍👍👍👍👍

      Ha ha....they really aren't that difficult. I'm done some pretty tough trails in the US...just makes me feel a little better to complain about thr uphills when doing them...gives me more oomphs

    For Autumn colours (colors), your timing was pretty good. Some really awkward looking gates on that trail though.
    Well done on hitting ten ton.

      Yeah, definitely. Love Autumn for colors, just like spring. Other than mud season (winter) there is something I love about walking in all seasons.
      And thank you :-) It's been a great experience already and hoping for much more

    You passed near my nearest NDW point to home. I know that stretch between Chestnut Avenue and Knockholt very well . There is a beautiful loop that you would have past called the Chevening Circular that takes you off the NDW down a stunning valley footpath and turns past Chevening House where the Foreign Office Ministers country retreat is and then back up onto the NDW ...worth a look 👀

    Hmm, clay and chalk - neither a great prospect when drenched! While walking in autumn is often spectacularly coloured it always makes me a bit melancholy. Walking in winter doesn’t because there’s the promise of better days ahead, but there’s a definite ‘that’s all for now folks!’ feel about some autumn days out. The colours of the dead leaves always make me wish I had one iota of the talent of Andy Goldsworthy!

      Ha ha...I kinda get what you mean. I do love Autumn as a season though, and it's a bit different here than in the US where we have the beautiful garb of winter to enjoy (which gets very old, very quick).

    Hi Cj, I am hoping to do the NDW in July in the car camper. I would be interested to know where you camp each day and how youi get back to the car at the end of each walk.

    • @WilderhopeAdventures
      @WilderhopeAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      The NDW is great for this due to the easy access of public transport along the route. This website is awesome in helping to plan how to get back to the car each day. www.northdownsway.co.uk
      Feel free to email me and I can share some park-ups (not to be shared on the overnight parking apps please) and how I broke things up and got back each day

    Does the peak of your cap act like an air scoop in windy conditions? How do you stop it blowing off?

    • @WilderhopeAdventures
      @WilderhopeAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha ha...it can. I've only ever lost it at a gallop on a horse, or on one very insanely windy day. It fits me pretty good
