  • If you are experiencing engine performance problems with your YZF, before you take your motorcycle apart or take it to the dealer for repairs, try to check the seal installed on the vent line of your carburetors and make sure it is very clean. This seal is a little filter and its Part Number is 3GM-14467-00-00. If you google the P/N you will also be able to get more detailed explanation on some diagrams. It costs about $5 if you buy it online and it is very easy to replace or clean. Fallow the instruction on the video and see if it helps.

Dude!!!! I have spoken with many, and when I say many.. im talking about 15 different motorcycle mechanics... some businesses that have been around for 20+ years... they always tell me its a carb issue and I know it's not.. they want anywhere from 1-2 hundred dollars just to diagnose it.... I have the 2002 yzf 600... i'm going to check it out tomorrow and if this is it YOU WILL BE MY NEW GOD!!!
    THANK YOU!!!!

If it has never been serviced, I believe you really need the carburetor cleaned and calibrated and the spark plugs replaced.

Hello. Can you specify what filter it is , fuel filter? Indicating the part number would be very helpful.

Hi David. There could be so many issues involving the carburetor system. A technician from Yamaha USA confirmed that a clogged filter effects the performance of the engine. It is proved by the fact that if you partially obstruct the ventilation with your finger, the engine starts running funny (3 cylinder). When completely obstruct the engine choke. You should try to replace the spark plugs first. If one of them is oily, greasy & black, it means there is a problem in that specific cylinder.

Sorry but your logic is flawed. You need to check between the filter and the carbs. Not from the intake to the filter. If you open the hose where you said and plug it and there is a change That confirms that the filter is not the problem. Think like it's a vacuum cleaner. Put your hand on the hose. If the noise changes it's ok. If not it's clogged. Also, this circuit is for cruising speed, Not at idle. Should not stall if you block this hose at idle but will run rough at speed. GL

. . . . . Evaporated fuel goes through the carb air vent hose from the float chamber and gets cooled in the pipe joint. When condensation is separated from the fumes, it goes through the drain hose and accumulates in the collector. Another pipe joint is positioned halfway down the drain hose in order to maintain atmospheric pressure in the float chamber.

@Yamahalover1000 Yes, the engine was cold and because that the motorcycle was running a little rough but now it starts very easly and don't even need the chocke when cold and when I roll on the gas the RPM goes up quick.
Replacing the little filter takes about one hour labor so I believe what you paid to have it fixed was pretty much fair and honest. I am glad to hear that you experienced the same problem and your mechanic was able to find it and fix it for you at no high cost.

. . . . When inspecting the air filter, also clean the surge tanks which filters out dust and water droplets in the air. Also the collector must be drained as necessary. Compliments to your great presentation and I am sure it will help some Yamaha bikers out there ....

Can you just put seafoam in the tube? I fact would that be a better spot to insert sea foam than the gas tank

Interesting video, but at the end it sounds like the bike is still running pretty rough. That check vavle shouldn't really have an affect on the bike at idle. Im sorry to say but your mechanic may have been on to something....

. . . . . Yes, an obstruction on the air vent hose affects your carbs. Air from cowling is pressurized through the ducts and fed to the carbs and some passes to through the carbs air vent hose (the tube you're talking of) and into the float chamber making fuel to flow smoothly to the carb's, especially at low speed or idle . . . .
