    The Switch Lite at $200 is solid value - but I'd still push people to pay more for a Switch that can actually, you know, Switch. Overall though, the Nintendo Switch experience in 2023 is still going strong!

      @@M64brosI agree. I have the OG Switch which I stopped using in 2019 because I moved onto the Lite which is a far superior machine imo. If I did I would use my Pro Controller.

      @@Bendaak Same here! When I originally got my original switch back in 2018 It was precisely "for the family" and not my own. I wanted my very own personal switch that I can take with me anywhere and anytime. When the switch lite got announced back in 2019 I figured I definitely wanted that for Christmas, and of course I've got it for Christmas! I had no issues with it as well and I had an absolute blast with it!

      Absolutely agree, I have two lites and a regular, I never touch the lite after the first month of having them, they are too small (both the screen and the controller), and can't be played docked in a tv.
      Edit:I forgot to mention the beyond abysmal battery life on the switch lite, literally 1 hour tops.

      Nintendo hasn't clued in that portability is what we want. That said phones/tablets/pcs cast to Tv with ease. No one wants to always dock the console in order to play on tv. Heck I got a tv in every room that can be casted to. Save for the OLED. It's worth it.

If you are looking for a strictly handheld device and you expect a Gameboy successor, then I honestly believe that the lite is the best option. I love the screen on the OLED but if you're happy playing on a 3DS, then the lite is a massive upgrade. It also feels way better in hand in my opinion. If there was an oled version it would be a no brainer for any handheld gaming fan.

    Personally, I'd say Lite is better. It's so easy to carry around, and I already have an Xbox One, so I wouldn't want to deal with setting up a whole other home console in my house, and I would've had to if I got the OG Switch or the OLED, and discovering the Lite took care of that. Before I knew the Lite existed, I was saving up for a normal one, and the handheld one was literally the form I was looking forward to, and I knew I probably was never even going to take the Joy-Cons off, and as soon as I found out about the lite, I completely switched (no pun intended) over to it, as it was exactly what I was looking for. Today, I enjoy my Switch Lite very much, with games like SSBU, Fall Guys, Undertale and Deltarune, Pokemon Unite, Kirby, and many more. I've even tried out the home console form of the Switch (my friend let me try it out on his) and it really wasn't great. And to think that I saved exactly $100 for the Switch that was way better for me is just.....
    Amazing.

    • @jasons890
      @jasons890 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re right. Switch games really look terrible on a TV and it looks way better on a small screen. The difference is even more noticeable when you compare it to the same games running on Xbox One and PS4. Many games look way better on Xbox One than they do on Switch docked. This is why I don’t like playing docked that much. Besides, I don’t think that most people are aware that their battery will deteriorate if they play docked. This is because the Switch will be charging the whole time that you are playing to get the battery to 100% again. Even when it is fully charged at 100%, it is still charging to maintain the charge at 100%. If you know about Lithium ion batteries, you will know what I’m getting at. Laptops have Lithium ion batteries as well. I’ve had 2 different laptops and since I didn’t have the patience to wait until it was fully charged, I always used it while it was charging. Guess what ended up happening? After around 3-4 years since purchasing it brand new, the laptops wouldn’t even turn on at all unless it was connected to a power source. It really took away the whole point of even having a laptop if I wasn’t even able to use it on the go. Don’t you think that the same thing will happen to the Switch battery in a few years? Laptop batteries can be easily replaced but the same can’t be said for Switch batteries. This is one of the main reasons why I agree with a lot of people that say that the Lite is the best model. The battery of the Lite will last for many more years before you have to replace it. People won’t be able to take the regular Switch on the go once their battery is unable to hold a charge. It will still work as a home console but it can’t be used as a handheld. This is a problem that we won’t have with the Lite. By the time that most people realise this and are faced with this problem, the next Nintendo system will be out and it will be too late for them to do anything about it. This is another problem that can be avoided with the Lite.

      @DoubleOhSilver ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same. I have both the lite and OLED and the lite gets more handheld play for me because it's lighter and more portable. Some games do look much better on TV though, like Persona 5 and other more graphically intense games (or in P5's case, a bad port).

    I am considering getting a Switch Lite for vacation or traveling purposes. Judging from your suggestions and game examples on this video, I think I might consider one for getting smaller scale games specifically. Mind you, I DO have an OG switch and I love it to pieces, but sometimes I will accidentally snap off the joycon controllers when I don’t mean too when I’m playing on handheld mode. I’ll treat it like the unofficial next line for the 3DS and only keep it for like Indie games, platformers and puzzle games like Tetris. And considering that the switch JUST released GB and GBA Games for Nintendo Switch Online at the time of me typing this, I THINK now is a more appropriate time then ever to get my hands on a nice banana yellow Switch Lite, when the money is right of course.
    Thank you for this video. It was super helpful.
    One Month Later Edit: Got my Yellow Switch Lite and YES, I do indeed love it like I said I was. Lol
    Edit #2: Don’t you just love it when Internet strangers tell you that you’ve wasted money on something you were passionate about getting no matter what? It was my decision guys, I just don’t like using the OG detachable joy con Switch when I travel okay? Leave me be and go rant somewhere else.

    For me, not being able to play games on a larger screen isn't anywhere near a drawback. For space-saving reasons I don't have a TV, and if I want to play games on the computer then I'd open up steam. I've only ever had PC games up until now, so aside from trying a classmate's old gamecube almost 20 years ago this would be my first nintendo experience. Getting the cheapest option available seems like a reasonable way to dip my toes in. 3 hours of battery life isn't a problem either. I have a full time job and a pretty packed schedule in my free time, so I'm not worried about hitting that limit.

    Any form of Nintendo Switch is still worth it. With its massive library, it is worth it for preservation of physical games. We are heading towards an all digital future aka the SteamDeck and XBOX line of systems, but if anyone who is a physical collector and is still yet to get a Switch, the Switch imo is a very collectible system. Any physical game that has a chance to be rare like The Caligula Effect, I am snapping up.
    The Switch and the current generation 9 of gaming may very well be the last generation for physical games. We don't know for sure, but I am not taking anything for granted.

    If you playing multiple handheld console previous gen, Lite is the best for its size and weight, with cons no output display and battery not long lasting as V2/OLED. Also DPAD and the price tag is the strongest pro for Lite. I owned Lite Dalgia Palkia edition and recently just bought OLED Scarlet Violet, but for handheld I prefer more my Lite. Sure once I play my OLED the beautiful vivid screen is hardly to ignore, but the weight and too larger screen make me prefer to Lite more for handheld playing. Everyone have their own preference and this is just my humble opinion and preferrence. I owned Vita and PSP on the past thats why Lite was the best for me.

    @jasons890 ปีที่แล้ว +51

    I had all models and the TV mode is honestly overrated. You can totally do without the TV mode because many games look really blurred and stretched out on a large TV. It’s easy to tell that many games were meant for a small screen and it looks much better, and more enjoyable on a small screen anyway. It really has to do with whether you need something to display on a TV. If you’re the introverted type of gamer like me (just like most people in Japan), you are probably the selfish type of gamer that always plays alone. Maybe it’s because you’re on the go most of the time and you don’t have time to play at home. If that’s the case, I think that the Lite is the best model, hands down. This is the only model that I feel comfortable with in bed or taking on the go. The regular and OLED are not true portables and you always get this weird feeling that something might break, come apart or go missing. With the Switch Lite, it’s all one piece so there’s less moving parts and less things that you can lose. If you take the regular Switch on the go, you can lose one or both of the joycons if you’re in a hurry to catch a bus or train etc. These things can happen and you should never rule it out. You can also lose or misplace the joycon straps if you have the regular Switch or OLED. This is just one less headache to worry about if you have the Switch Lite instead. Most people don’t care about motion controls and they prefer standard controls, so if you play mostly on the go and don’t care about motion controls, the choice is easy. You’ve already narrowed it down and the Switch Lite isn’t missing any feature that you’re actually going to use. If you’re not going to use the motion controls or the TV mode, there’s no point in getting the regular Switch. Personally, I feel that the Lite is the best model because it feels like a true portable that reminds me of the Gameboy and PSP, it is the most ergonomic and most comfortable, it does everything that the more expensive models can do, and it is less likely to break or come apart due to there being less moving parts. The main thing that you’ll have to sacrifice is TV mode but if you’re like me and none of your friends or people that you care about are into gaming, you’ll be playing on your own anyway, so you don’t need something that displays on a TV for everyone to see. If you’re the family type and you have friends/family that want to see what’s going on, you might think differently but this works just fine for people like me. It’s the people like us that the Lite is meant for. It’s not meant for everyone but if you’re the selfish, introverted type of gamer that wants something for your own enjoyment and for no one else, this is the perfect handheld.

    I’ve always been fond of Nintendo’s handheld gaming since the OG GameBoy. I still have an Advance SP, a DS Lite and a Switch Lite. I plan to mod the GBA SP eventually and my DS has hinge issues. The Switch Lite has some joystick issues. The one snapped off. They are easily replaceable with no soldering. I use each one still and the fact one is over 20 years old and the other approximately 15+, I would say Nintendo makes the best handhelds. PSP had such great potential but unfortunately, Sony abandoned ship on the handheld platform. I haven’t owned a Switch OG or OLED to compare the experience but the absence of being able to play on the tv is a downside to using the Lite.

You may not want them using/taking your fav Oled out so Lite may be better for them (less parts to lose, cheaper, you can still play Oled at home) or even for yourself when the big console is stuck with tv most of times. Lite is smaller so for people with smaller hands and as such even younger kids its obviously easier to play with lighter, smaller device. I owned all versions of Switch and for me only use (and at home) Oled is best but Lite is great when Oled is docked for tv use:) + just the feeling of Lite is more wholesome for some reason.

    I have had a Switch since 2017, and I didn't really use it much. Just had it for Zelda/Mario/Metroid/ etc.
    I recently decided to get the switch lite, I'm honestly not even sure WHY.
    I'm so upset I waited this long.
    It's so so so so so much more comfortable than the regular switch.
    It also FITS IN MY ****ING POCKET... which, was the biggest issue with the original model for me.
    Taking that anywhere was a joke.
    With the cloud saves now though, I feel like I have the best of both worlds.
    Though... atm I feel like I'm going to be playing with the lite 90% more anyway.

    I got this year a Switch Lite just to play Pokémon Shield, Shantae and other 2D indie games, because I already have a PC and a PlayStation, so I see the Lite as the handheld console that plays 2D or basic 3D games and Pokémon, just like a Game Boy, and those games tbh can benefit from a smaller screen, but if you want to play the biggest releases or maybe some of Nintendo's own AAA games, you may like a regular Switch, but for smaller games the Lite is really awesome, can't go wrong with a dedicated portable.

    The OLED screen is nice but don't you think that it defeats the purpose of having an OLED screen if someone plays on the TV all the time and never gets to use the OLED screen? The OLED model has the exact same internals as the regular Switch except for the 64gb storage and the improved stand that most of us don't use anyway because we don't play in tabletop mode. Why would you want to pay for features that you don't use anyway when you can just get the regular model for less? If it's docked 90% of the time, you will never get to enjoy the OLED screen. I have an OLED and a Lite. Coming from someone that hss both, this is a fair and honest opinion. The OLED screen is great but I honestly feel that the Lite is the best version of the Switch because it is more comfortable, ergonomic and is the closest to a classic handheld like a PSP and Gameboy. It also has an actual D-pad, and once you try it and see how much better it is than the directional buttons on the regular Switch, you won't want to go back to the awkward directional buttons. Another thing that you have to keep in mind is that the lithium ion batteries are charging the whole time that you are playing on a TV and this will deteriorate the battery of the regular Switch faster while the Lite won't be affected because it can't be played on a TV and you can ensure that you don't play it while it is charging. I had 2 laptops with Lithium ion batteries that I played all the time and I didn't have the patience to wait until it was done charging. Guess what happened after a few years? Both of the laptops' batteries went completely flat and needed to be replaced. It was only usable when connected to a power source and I wasn't able to use it on the go. Don't you think that this will happen to the regular and OLED Switch eventually? This is another reason why the Lite is the best model. Some people have been complaining about this online and people with 2017 model Switches said that their Switch only lasts an hour now on a full charge. Just so you know, this will also happen with the 2019 and Oled models in a few years. Pretty soon, the battery will go flat and it will only be usable while connected to a power source and it won't be usable in handheld mode. If this happens with laptop batteries, it isn't a trainsmash because it is widely available but Switch batteries are not available. It all comes down to what you want to use it for and if you want a classic handheld that is going to be reminiscent of the PSP and Gameboy, the Lite is the best and most reliable because it will have more longevity and it will still be able to be used in handheld mode long after the regular Switch becomes unusable in handheld mode due to it being unable to carry a charge. If you're a selfish introverted gamer like me that only plays alone and that doesn't have an audience to please, the choice becomes much easier because you only have to think about yourself and nobody else. None of my friends, family or people that I care about are into gaming and I am usually playing alone. Since nobody that I care about is watching me when I want to my privacy and to play these games alone, I don't really need it to display on a TV for them to watch, so a Lite does the job perfectly. Some of us actually prefer it this way and even if those people were into gaming, I still wouldn't care because I prefer playing alone in peace and I value my privacy more than anything. Some games are best enjoyed alone and people are just a distraction. Do you see how the Lite is so well suited for the selfish, introverted gamers like us? The people like us can get the Lite because it is only meant for our enjoyment and for nobody else. I know that most of you are the social gaming types and while you will agree with some of the things that I said, you won't agree with all of it. If you are one of those that resonated with what I just said, the Lite is better than the other models because you'll only be paying for what you use. The people like us can get the Lite because it is only meant for our enjoyment and for nobody else. For instance, a large number of people in Japan, Asia and many other parts of the world don't even have a single television at home. This is one of the biggest reasons why Nintendo has been so successful with their handhelds in Japan. I have seen many people in the comments that have confirmed the same thing. They use their laptop/tablet to watch streaming apps and they don't have a need for a television. Most of these people never get the chance to play at home because they have no television at home and they always play on the go. If they get the regular or OLED model but don't have a television, don't you agree that they are paying for features that they are not going to use? If you're one of those types of people, the Lite is the only model that makes any sense to get because you won't have a television in order to make use of the docking feature anyway. Anyway, to each their own. If you are the social type that likes playing with others, the Lite probably isn't for you but for those selfish introverts that vakue their privacy and that don't like people that much, it feels like it was made just from them. This is my personal favorite model of the Switch and if they just release and OLED model of the Lite, it would be the perfect handheld.

    When ever the Steam Deck comes up, I'm always reminded of the GameBoy vs the GameGear and the Lynx. Both were bigger than the GameBoy, had more power, played in full color(the GameBoy only had maybe 4 shades of grey), and was more expensive. The GameBoy thrashed the competition, despite it's under preformance.
    The Switch and the Steam Deck is the same issue. The Steam Deck is bigger than the Switch, has more power, plays full PC games, and is a bit more expensive. I guarantee that the Switch is going to preform better and it's already doing wonders

    Considering it again. I only use switch lite because i only use the tablet and I'm not worried about TV usage. It still plays console strength games therefore if so switches one's mentality about what consoles are defined as anymore. I'll take this over the steam deck which uses more battery power and costs twice as much. If you want to get a TV with a console, get ANYTHING ELSE. It is built for portable capability and that is where it thrives. I don't intend on getting a switch that hooks up to the TV again and that's fine with me.

Is it better to wait for the Switch which rumors say it will be released this year or the other? If someone with knowledge about the subject replies i would really appreciate it!

    200 isn't the best value in 2023, but you can get a used one in good condition for $80-$100 all day and for that it is a fantastic deal.

    Call me crazy or not but maybe I’m overthinking it lol. So I have a switch oled but what I’ve noticed is I barley play it on the tv and whenever I do want to use it I play it on handheld. With the oled it’s comfortable and the screen is beautiful but if I want to play handheld most of the time. The lite sounds more comfortable and durable to bring and play on the go. What do y’all think.

    Just upgraded from my lite to an oled and it's worth the jump , if nintendo would've made this the actual best option for portable play , then I would probably have both , and use the og/Oled model on the TV and while at home sitting on the couch , then when I go to leave pick up my lite and take it with me , but they didn't, so imma sell my lite , but it will be missed and is definitely a great console

    For the full retail price of $199.99 plus tax I don't think it's worth it. But for $170 and under I definitely think it is. You can find these on sale new easily. The Switch Lite is basically the PS Vita 2 for me with the bonus of being able to play first party Nintendo games.

    so wait, the nitendo switch lite is just smaller version and can’t be connected to the TV? is that all? cause will it still be updated the same way as the main nitendo switch in terms of games? like for example how xbox 1 games don’t exist in xbox 360 or how some games only exist on PS5 and not PS4? sorry if i missed thus explanation

      I own all three versions of the switch. I love the switch.
      If you do not own one, I recommend the OLED. It gives you the ability to do everything in terms of owning the switch family at best.
      That being said, the switch lite is so cheap in price, and it just feels significantly better in the hand; portability wise and price. You can get a refurbished lite for around 150$, and it's exactly the same hardware as it's sisters, minus the TV output. Incredibly light, and fits in my pocket easier.
      It seemed stupid at first when it was announced... But Nintendos design really shines, and it feels solid for its purchase power. If you want portability, this is not a bad option.
      I use both my flagship OLED and Lite about the same now.

    Switch Lite with a Satisfye Grip is just so damn perfect. It's light, comfortable for long hours sessions and due to the nature of the smaller screen it has in my opinion better colours and sharpness.

    I love my switch lite. I actually have not even touched my original switch since I got my lite. I actually find games to, in some ways, be easier to play on the lite. I also have pretty much only played my original switch handheld only.
