    I bought the Lite to play Animal Crossing in 2020. As a casual, cozy gamer, I don't see any need to upgrade to an OLED. After holding my coworker's OLED, I do think my Life feels better in my hands.

    My sister was given the Lite years ago. She never felt the need to upgrade until I myself upgraded to the OLED and offered my “old” one. Having the ability to remove the remotes to play more comfortably in bed, changing the colors and using those controllers when we played multiplayer was a huge step up. Not to mention the ability to play on a TV or monitor. That was HUGE as a upgrade and hard to look back for her after that. The bigger screen was nice as well but it still baffles me the Lite didn’t have the ability to output the display via HDMI at the very least.

  • @RichieLanderos
    @RichieLanderos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +250

    The Switch Lite is really starting to appeal to me. My OLED’s screen pops like no other. But I do notice the pixels more. I’m mostly handheld and with a grip on my OLED, my hands do get tired more with the extra weight. Also, the small wiggle you get from joycons makes it almost unbearable for me to play without a grip or case on it

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yuuuup. I 100% get that. I would recommend the HORI Split Pad Pro for more comfortable gaming. It won't help much with the overall weight of the console though. 😅

    • @fryke
      @fryke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      The main reason you won't see pixellation on the Lite is because the screen's just so much worse than the OLED's. portability: Okay. But don't replace your OLED. Even if you only use the OLED docked at ~1-4% of the time, not having the option to use it docked _at all_ will get on your nerves, let me tell you. I switched from the Lite to the OLED, and it's simply no comparison.

    • @RichieLanderos
      @RichieLanderos 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@fryke that’s funny, cause other than the technology of the screen (OLED) they have no other differences PPI determines that. But it won’t be replacing my OLED. It will just be my main device. I've had my Lite for two years. I was really unsure weather or not to get it, I had a normal Switch but I had "used up" 3 sets of joycons and the all drift like crazy. I have never, not once, experienced drift on the Lite and I play on it a lot. I also prefer playing in handheld mode, and the Lite is just better for that. It's lighter and it just fits better in my small hands. My wrists dosen't end up hurting after hours of playtime like they did on the regular switch.
    The screen is ofc a tad smaller, but once you get used to a smaller screen, if switching from a regular Switch, it's not something you think about at all. If you start with a Lite as your first Switch, it won't be an issue at all.
    I love my Lite so much.

Now 2 years later im considering getting a "regular" switch so i can play docked but im still on the fence. I doubt i would use the docked mode much but im finding that there are a few games that i sort of wish were on a larger screen. It definitely isnt a priority though, when the OLED came out i was sort of hoping the other switch would come down in price a bit but it didnt and i havent been able to justify the plunge to the "regular" switch yet.

    What my own research told me about the drift. Just be mindful about how you actually play. If you get excited playing Smash or something remember that a softer motion will be sufficient. Also if you eat while playing, using dirty hands or have dust and things get in the joystick, this increases the chance of drift. Otherwise its really fine and the service of Nintendo is always amazing.

    I understand wanting to cut down on cost so the system is cheaper then nails, but removing the main gimmick of switching it from handheld to you tv is a huge reason why I would usually just recommend to people to just save and buy a normal switch instead for the switch feature alone, not to mention if the damn thing drifts you can't simply replace the controllers like on the normal switch you have to buy a whole new system to replace it, which is just another reason not to buy a switch lite, though to give the switch lite credit from using a friend of mines for a bit, it is super comfortable to hold for its way lighter and slimmer design

    I've owned every single Switch model and the Lite is the best one, hands down. Hell, it might even be the best handheld overall if value and portability are deciding factors. You're getting a system that plays AAA games for $100-120 used, is far more comfortable to use than the other Switch models, and can actually fit in your pocket. That they managed to cram so much power into something so small and light, yet have a large enough screen to make it feel uncompromised, makes it feel more impressive than the other Switch models currently do today.

The only downside to me is the lack of HD Rumble since I`m addicted to rumble since the launch of N64`s Rumble Pack. Boy, I`m getting ancient.

    I bought an OLED last week as my first Switch but I'm pretty curious about the Lite. I wouldn't mind buying it for games that aren't demanding for joycons like visual novels and other types of games. Its target audience def meant for children and casual players (there was even a sales report last year that said most Switch Lite buyers are women). Hell, even my twin sister who's not a huge gamer bought one solely to play Animal Crossing and Pokemon. Plus the Lite is noticeably way more affordable in a lot of other currencies. Finally the screen died in my hands when I was playing Zelda - the screen now is full of vertical lines. Found out this is a common problem with the Lite. @@baldlyrudy It's why I didn't pick up the OLED model during the Black Friday sales. There will be a new model or maybe even the successor to the Switch next year. My Lite will do me just fine till then.

    I have a lite and and oled. I never use my lite.
    I should also note joycon drift on the lite is only covered under 1 year warranty, after your warranty is up you have to pay $100 to have them repaired by Nintendo. Where as regular joycons can be repaired for free. If you send a special edition joycons in for repair, they will send you a neon red/blue or gray joycon back

    Honestly, I went from a switch lite up to an oled. Just that little bit bigger size and much better contrast was it for me. I play exclusively in handheld mode

    I upgraded from switch lite to v2 and i dont regret it. I like the og switch better because of the vibration when playing games. But yes its heavier so my hands got tired faster

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems that way overall. I personally prefer to play on the OLED, but that's just me. The beauty of it is that there are options for all of us to game on whatever we want, but still have a good time.

    I got my lite Switch 2 weeks ago and very happy with it. Why I didn't choose OLED? Because I wanted a light, smaller handheld and for playing on TV I have PS4 and don't need another one. FYI I'm 39 years old woman☺

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's awesome! Glad you got it and are enjoying it. I do gravitate to playing more on my PlayStation 5 on my TV and Switch in handheld. I'd like a Switch Lite OLED at this point. I love my OLED and the way the games just pop.

    Back when I was a kid playing the playsation and ps2 I dreamed of being able to play them on the go. I think that was why I usually go for handhelds if there is an option over console.

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup. There are handhelds that are out there that are powerful enough to play PS2 and even PS3 games, but they're pricey.

    When the original Lite came out, I switched (hehe) to the Pokemon Sword/Shield edition and loved it. At the time, most games had cloud save so using it as my primary and leaving the OG docked worked. I traveled a lot and carrying a smaller switch just made sense. That said, I missed the easy docking and bigger screen so I switched back 1-2 months later. I recently started playing my Switch again after months of primarily rocking the Steam Deck, and I am appreciating the small form factor of the Lite so much. I tend to carry a console most times I go out, and the Switch Lite fits in my smaller bags. Might have to make this my daily driver for a while

    I bought my Lite at the start of 2022. After for finishing a few games & building a backlog. I now prefer the V2 than the Lite.

    Lite all the way baby! For typical hardcore gaming I stick with the Series X for the TV, the Lite is the perfect size for a handheld system. Some people complain about it being too small but I honestly think handheld system are getting way too big. The screen is the perfect size and it's slightly bigger than the Vita and even that was a very nice size. The only way I see it being worth getting the larger version is if you use the Switch as your primary gaming console.
    Even then I feel like you would be missing out because you wouldn't get your really good hardcore console games. The switch is really good for your portable jrpg games. Most of the time I do play with a very high quality Bluetooth speaker, I primarily use the JBL Charge 5. It's an expensive speaker though and can cost as much as the Lite itself.

    I bought the lite on release for its price and a dpad.

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The D-Pad alone is worth it. It feels great while gaming. On the regular Switch, I end up using 3rd party controllers from 8BitDo for their D-Pad.

    I have oled and lite but I’m a handheld mode player. I find the lite way more comfortable in my hands . I use the oled very little but again, I am a handheld mode player..

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I totally get that. Ever since I got the OLED I've started playing more handheld. I got the Hori Split Pad Pro and it's way more comfortable than the JoyCons. But yeah, the Lite feels great, especially with a grip.

    It's not just geared towards the younger audience. I'm 26 but have tiny hands so the switch light is perfect. Ontop of that I love Portable handheld gaming and yes the switch is portable but the switch lite is a more convenient size portable.

    • @baldlyrudy
      @baldlyrudy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I play more handheld as well. But it's size and form definitely makes it seems like something geared towards people that have smaller hands. Nothing wrong with being 26 and preferring the Lite.

      Of course. Yet still, it's a very real design flaw. I'm hoping Hall Sense is adopted across the board for all controllers in the future.

    They look the most crisp and vivid on the oled. I get so sick of hearing people tell straight up lies about pixels. Technically sharper doesn't mean diddly. If you don't believe it play any game on a 4k tv. Now turn the Sharpness all the way up. (This works best on a newer Bravia imo because it has a special realize sharpening feature that can make it look extra sharp) as you get closer to the highest sharpness you will notice that it will start to look pixelated and not as good.

    i've had my lite for 2 years now, still in pristine condition. never got drift even though i beat the absolute shit out of the sticks when it comes to shooters. i've also never had drift on the standard joycon when it comes to the "full" switch models such as the v2 or the oled. maybe i'm just lucky lol
