My mother made THE BEST homemade dinner rolls when I was growing up. When I got into my 30's & 40's when I wanted to learn how to make them, my mother had gotten much older and she forgot how to make them. She said it had been years since she made them. Now, I am in my 60's and my mother passed away a few months ago at the age of 94. I truly wanted her to live long enough so that I could show her, I finally mastered dinner rolls. Today, I am trying this recipe. If they don't come out right, I will keep trying. Thank You for sharing your recipe. I pray that I got it right.

I made these today. They're in the oven on the 2nd proof right now on the proof setting. They have like 40 minutes left, and then it's time to bake! I'm so excited. I put sesame seeds on top of the rolls before the second proof. They looked gorgeous when I went to check them with the oven light right now. I'm so excited. I hope they taste as good as they look because they look picture perfect. Edit: They're cooking r.n. and they smell amazing!!! They have like 2 minutes left. I'm so excited. I melted some european cultured butter. It's actually imported butter. It's amazing. I'm gonna brush that on top when they get out of the oven. Can't wait to taste them. Thanks for the wonderful recipe.

I don’t think the video mentioned this, but I just made this recipe for the first time for Easter dinner tomorrow. Instead of letting them rise a second time, I made them, covered them, and put them in the refrigerator for overnight. I will take them out and let them rise again before baking tomorrow. I really hope it’s okay to do it this way.🤔 My family will be disappointed if not. 🙃 Love your videos!

I used your recipe for Thanksgiving and they were lovely! I reduced the sugar by a tablespoon for health reasons and personal preferences in the household. They were so soft! I definitely encourage everyone to make these.
Just tried this recipe and they turned out great! I did have to put them back in the oven a couple minutes longer. They are addicting and we could not stopping eating them. Takes a lot of time but worth it. Thanks for the great recipe!
I used a mix of sugar brown sugar and honey and they were so soft and yummy. Heavily enriched yet full of enormous flavor. I use a little extra milk and opted for a wetter dough.
I been having trouble making rolls, Though this time around wouldn't be any better, so I did not fuss with them at all. They turn out amazing. Light and airy.
I followed directions exactly ,my dough was very wet , I had to do about 7 minutes of hand kneeing after removing from the mixing bowl and I added almost 1/2 cup of flour other than that it was a yummy recipe . Lucky I knew what to do with the sticky dough , you forgot to explain what the next step would be if it wasn't bouncing back and was sticky, just a heads up 👍 thanks for the video .

Baked today, made yesterday, left in refrigerator ready to bake until this morning. I only got 795g of finish product. Enough for 53g per each of the 15 rolls. Something is off, no way to get to 70g. But enough for the 12X9. Even the pre-bake ingredients don't add up. Came out ok flavor wise, very airy and fluffy. I followed the instructions: if using salter butter not to add the salt. Needed extra salt for me. I used Bread Flour and 2% milk. Instead of 20 min I baked for 24 min. because of the refrigerator time. I took the tray one hour before baking but it needed a bit more. But the extra 4 min worked well. Will repeat again with extra salt. They come out very appealing to place on a dinner table. Next time I will bake same day to see how they come out. Thanks for the recipe!

Hi, John. I love your channel, your family, your farm, and your lifestyle. I also like my dinner rolls quite a bit darker. I've used my dinner roll recipe now for forty years. The baker's percentages of my recipe do not vary much, if any, from yours. I ferment my dough as you do; however, I proof my rolls in a warmed cast-iron individual roll pan (six holes per pan) for somewhat longer, until they have almost TRIPLED in volume, and bake the rolls to a rich mahogany, almost caramel, color. The cast-iron pans give the bottoms a similar color to the tops and a slight crunch. I use my leftover butter wrappings (thank you, Nathalie Dupree) to give them that final sheen. These rolls are so light as to be almost insubstantial, are quite sweet, are delicious with the thinnest shaving of butter, and can make the tastiest use of any gravy or sauce served with the meal.
I made these for Christmas Eve dinner, just as John instructed, and they were perfect !! I've made many iterations, different cookbooks, etc and these were the simplest and best. No left-overs !!

I made these dinner rolls yesterday for my family's Easter dinner. They were a big hit, my husband had 4! I never get tired of trying your recipes. Thank you
First time baking bread, I could not get it to be un sticky even after adding extra flour. I took it out, kneaded it, added a little more flour, kneaded it, and then tried the window pan could not get that to work. It did bounce back a little. I had rapid rise yeast - was that the issue? It’s sitting in a bowl, waiting the hour to see if it doubles in size and then I’ll do the rest and cook it and hopefully it’ll still taste OK. 🤞 Edit. They were pretty good I must say. I think the pan I used a little small, they were a bit crowded but overall I was pretty pleased considering it was the first time I ever made bread. I used them to make oven sliders, which were fantastic. Thank you!

Hi, I tried these dinner rolls today and they were soooo delicious and sooo soft, everyone in the family loved it. I have one question though, is there any way we could reduce the quantity of sugar, not that this was too much but we all prefer the intake of sugar as low as possible. Thank you.
I too did not want to use all that sugar. I only used a tablespoon for the whole recipe which I added to the milk yeast mixture to help the yeast to activate : ) I turned out very good!

Another amazing video, thank you. Will try these tomorrow. May I ask, could you follow steps right up to before the second rising but let them rise in the fridge over night to bake fresh in the morning?
Perhaps because of my elevation or oven, but the first time I made these they came out quite dense. Just gave them another go with a few tweaks: I decreased sugar from 3 to 2 tbsp, and reduced flour from 3.25 c to 3 cups. Also changed the butter from melted to room temp. Let them proof 3 times instead of 2, and they turned out amazing!
Made these amazing rolls tonight! So absolutely delish! Will make for Christmas and double the recipe! John, you are AMAZING! Thank YOU so much for sharing your delish recipes with us! Merry Christmas!

Great Recipe. I have tried so many and this is the first time mine is exactly like the video. Thank you so much.
Excited to try this! You make everything look so simple and not intimidating.
Yay!
@@brigittefregault6411 thank you for your response, appreciate it. I will do the same next time 🙂

You always come through for me. Love your videos.
These look amazing, just wondered if these would work with the ‘overnight’ method like your cinnamon rolls? If so, at what point would I put in the fridge? Thank you
Okay John makes me feel like I can go into the kitchen and make all his recipes.😂😂and in my head I can but I know I cant. 🤪He makes it look so easy. So calm and reassuring. ❤❤

Best rolls ever! I made a test run yesterday (11/22/22). Thanks John. I tried some of my favorite Chef's recipes but this turned out to be the best.
Your recipes are DELICIOUS! My husband has been losing weight at a unhealthy rate. The doctors are baffled. Since I've found your channel and website, he's maintaining his weight. Packing a bit on too. He's a beanpole to begin with so Thanks!!
I like to take advantage of the overhead light. It gets warm and make a perfect spot to proof dough.
Hi I love baking rolls and bread. Will do this without the egg. Thank you.Take care.
Lots of love from South Africa.
OMG, just took them out of the oven, light and fluffy, just wonderful!
The best baking tip I've ever come across is to weigh the ingredients, versus measuring them. Perfect every time and nearly foolproof.
Ever since I switched to measuring (learned through this guy) my products always come out perfect.
Another amazing video, thank you. Will try these tomorrow. May I ask, could you follow steps right up to before the second rising but let them rise in the fridge over night to bake fresh in the morning?
I tried making this today and its turn out to be gorgeous in and out. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR RECIPE 🥰 Hye from Malaysia ☺
What yeast did you use active or instant?
I would love to be woken up in a bath of milk and sugar.
LOLOL, it does sound nice
Sounds like an 18th century bath! Apparently 18th century nobility added herbs, essences, and milk to their baths for the perceived health and beauty benefits!
Lol
