    Dude the footage on the a7iv looks much cleaner on your own comparison. A7siii is muddy

    I also own both and the IV is alot cleaner and usable at almost all iso levels except 12800 which i rarely use. With the S3 its either 640 or 12800, IV can handle everything in between.

    A7siii apply massive noise reduction at 12800..A7IV is much more detailed and noise is still not do bad. If you apply noise reduction in post on A7Iv you get better image. Other thing is that A7Siii is not usable at lower ISOs in Slog is sooo grainy. So in more commonly used ISO is A7IV better as well.

    I agree 1000%!! I have both, and the a74 can’t even touch my a7s3 in low light. I would even go as far as saying its almost 2 steps behind especially when it comes to slo3 noise in the shadows.

    Totally agree. I finally own the A7IV to B cam for my A7SIII. The photo capabilities are top notch. Sony nailed it when they made 12,800 the second native for lowlight. It makes 💯 sense especially for slog3 shooters. Sometimes I gotta use a ND filter inside interior location during night time if I’m shooting at 2.8 if not I gotta crank the F stop

    Great content as always. We have 2 fx3's. Would you consider this camera a good "3rd camera" for just slog3 24p tripod setup for far away ceremony? Or would you recommend something older/used/cheaper but no slog3 support? Thanks for the great videos!

  • @PrestonGladd
    @PrestonGladd 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I saw zero difference, which means the couple who got married won't notice a difference either. If you're shooting for TH-cam or for a wedding, not one single person is going to say "WTF, this guy ripped us off, he used an A7IV and not an A7SIII, I want a refund!" The A7SIII is .00000001% better. The thing I don't understand is why all these creators who own 40 A7SIII's and FX3's went out and bought the A7IV which is clearly a cheaper camera expecting it to be just as good as the more expensive camera. We already know the A7SIII is technically better for video and the A7RIV is better for photo. The A7IV was not meant to replace either one of them. But it does do about 95% of what each of those do. So for 90% of creators who don't shoot movies for tv or film, this won't make a difference.

  • @MadsGOlsen

    just ordered the a7iv. i'm mostly a photographer though, but getting more into video, and my a7iii didn't cut it anymore for video. but this gets me 90% the video of a a7siii and 30% more stills camera than my old 7iii. for me it's worth it saving the +1000$ for me while getting a good enough videocamera and a even better stills camera. but i do love your videos though! thanks for putting them out here :)
    But i'm still gonna be a rebel and shoot most my stuff in 1080p :P even though the a7iv is softer than the a7siii in 1080p.

    • @gadgetphilosophy8290
      @gadgetphilosophy8290 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try APSC mode in 1080p. In the alive. It’s better than a7siii. It does a 1 to 1 readout.

  • @Diminish12

    Have you tried the A7IV at 12800ISO for comparison? I just saw an ISO test where they went through all the ISO ranges in Slog3 for both cameras. Supposedly A7IV was less grainy through out all ISO except for 12800 and even at that point it was very usable. I haven't seen anyone else try this test, I was wondering if you have?

    • @nVuFilms

    I couldn't agree with you more about shooting everything in slow motion. I shoot everything at 4K 120p. Unless it's just a talking head, then I shoot that at 4K 60p. I for one, like the look of 60p so I try to only slow my 120p footage down to 50%. If I could shoot 4K at 240p that would be even better. Can't wait until Sony cameras are able to do that

    I shoot over 100 weddings a year and I’m still using three A7III. The bengladeshi children who edit the videos don’t understand LUTs so I shoot in 1080p60 - creative style : neutral -3/+3/-3
    For dark and dirty receptions, I have no hesitation going to ISO 25,600. At least for the insignificant random dancing footage. I blast my lights for formalities and usually manage to stay under ISO 320 for those. When you see the shots flash before you in a finished edit, you can barely perceive the quality difference from low to high ISO.
    If you’re at a loss for more trash content to make, chumps like me would really appreciate a split screen comparison capturing 1080p non LOG footage captured in 1/3 stop increments from ISO 100 up to ISO 25,600 or beyond.
    Tempted to get three A7IV but they won’t put more money in my pocket. Perhaps when there’s a B&H edu discount on them so I can stack student discounts with corporate tax exemption. Hopefully the stars will align and that will happen around April before the 2022 wedding madness begins.
    I think the SIII is overkill if you don’t make use of 4K, plus the variable shutter speed of the A7IV is invaluable for weddings.
    If you make this comparison, I’ll do that thing you like and finish you to completion.

Many youtubers are really trying to fool people about this with the attempt of making Sony sell more a7IVs... Bottom line is, with the APS-C crop at f2.8 4k 60, even my iPhone 13 pro max performed better than this $3,500 setup, and I regret every penny I spent on that!

    First comes one bad idea: to shoot everything possible in slow motion. Then this idea does not get revised when you have to shoot in low light. Then as a result the concept comes that normal range of ISO’s is 3200-10000 ISO… Seriously, first you come up with one stupid thing, then another, then adjust what “normal/practical/real world” is based on that. You are in some dark place, confused and lost.

      @@nVuFilms 3200-10000 ISO range is extremely high. This is way above “normal” range. Only the unrealistic expectations have made it a norm for many. But that’s ok as that’s what makes the manufacturers develop more and more sensitive cameras. It’s actually always the amateurs who propel the technology development, not only in camera industry. And while pros would rather not do silly things as shooting in almost complete darkness in 60fps or 120fps, they eventually benefit from the amateurs-propelled advancements in technology. Hard to believe but autofocus is one of such advancements which we can thank the amateurs for, they were simply not able to grasp the concept and technique of manual focusing, and like yourself would do lots of extremely silly things only making it harder on themselves, therefore the manufacturers had to come up with idiot proof technology - autofocus.
