The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

There will never be another one like him. The great Michael Jackson.

The way Michael and Jermaine traded lyrics back and forth were spot on as if they were veterans in the business yet were so young
Unreal! I was like, is that Jermaine??? It's been a long time since this song played constantly on the radio stations. I always loved it and them.
Totally agree.
People slept on Jermaine's lyrics!!!!!
@@hgaston66 he really has a great voice
Absolutely
I like the way Jermaine maintains a smile all the while of singing and dancing and playing the guitar.
That ain't live, though
@@oliviernga6080
Yeah; I don't know about the rest of the production, but I was looking at Jermaine's left-hand fingerings, and he didn't appear to play that bass. During the bridge ( middle ) of the song, the bass is playing noticeably higher parts from the rest of the song, yet Jermaine's fingers remain in the middle of the bass' neck; throughout the entire piece.
Having said that, I still find the J5 to have been a fabulous stage act, clean-cut, lively, and just what the world needed during such war-torn times.
Jermaine played bass.
@@oliviernga6080
During that time it was common that artists and groups did lip sync in TV shows. That was mostly the case for the Jackson 5. They always played live on their tours tho.
@@waltdixon7754 ...and from the early live albums, he sounded like a mix of Jack Bruce & Jamerson.
I'm 65 ...i grew up in Chicago and i loved them... endless amounts of hits...i always thought Jermaine was cool AF and i love his backup vocals here
Marlon was getting down 😂
I think it's safe to say there will never be another recording artist the likes of Michael Jackson.
I'll say it: AMEN!
Never, ever ever

Michael & Jermaine killed it trading lyrics back and forth.
one of my favorite songs where all the brothers shine!
Best part.
I love that part!
Cant get over the fact they were kids…
Hard talent and family tragedy slowly built the Jackson Family
Little Marlon dancing like he's James Brown.
Randy is not there ...
@@omanu2143 my bad that's Marlon. Thx.
Michael is dancing like James Brown
@@michaeljacksonfanclub8019 we get it mj fans you’re obsessed with Michael and can’t stand anyone who praises his brothers but they are also extraordinary talented and deserve praise and was able to do things Michael couldn’t do, calm down.
Marlon had to work really hard to get where he was in this video. He didn't have the natural dancing talent that Michael did. (And he took a lot of heat from their father for it)
People tend to forget how freaking talented Jermaine was in the group! Guitar and vocals????
Tito was guitar, Jermaine was on bass.
@@beigenegress2979people that don’t music don’t know the difference 😂
Nobody forgot
They didn't play on the records but had session players. It's also obvious by watching tito on bass that he's not playing the same complex notes that are audible. As a bass player myself its pathetically obvious he can't replicate the back tracking.
@beigenegress2979 faking it ....yes. The are syncing to a track recorded by their hired session players.
The one thing that is blowing my mind is that Michael had not even turned 12 years old in this clip. He was just a naturally gifted performer from birth. This reminds us he didn't really get a chance to be a normal child, as well.
54 years ago today, 11 year old MJ and his brothers appeared on the Ed sullivan show. 10/5/70
So no one is going to talk about those slick moves little Michael was busting in the intro....
At 0:11 and 0:15 he was getting it
I can’t get those Jermaine Jackson backup vocals out of my head.what a voice

His voice is insane at that age
Michael was little back then but was able to cast a huge shadow
he was killin it. they all were. brings tears to my eyes to look back at this time when i wasn't even born yet. such an amazing time for music it was then.
I feel Marlon was the main underrated person. Marlon and Tito
Marlon and Michael were such cute babies🥰🥰🥰

That's true
Truly mind boggling he was only 11 years old here. He was ONE of ONE.
Michael never truly died cause legends never die 👑

To Ooza:If you ever watched "Fame" whether it was the movie where the theme song was performed by Irene Cara,or the TV series,in the TV series, Janet did a 1-year stint from 1984-85, shortly after "Different Strokes"!

Your absolutely right he was as cool as a kid could be
The iconic pose of all 5 jacksons standing together like that should be carved in stone.
I love how young and tiny Marlon looks between Tito and Jackie
Michael Jackson is one year younger than me. I was born in January 1957.
I had the biggest crush on John Cowsill of the
Cowsills💞
I still loved their music. Michael Jackson was great poor guy. His life was taken away from him. I love this song absolutely 100% I’m 67 years old now.
Mike dripping swag. The way he commanded the stage with his presence, his vocals, and his dancing at that very young age, you'd swear he was a veteran at this age doing this for 20 years. Definition of a prodigy right here.
He had no choice... Poor guy. He was a child prodigy and didn't know what it was like to have a regular life.
@@marypierson9825 True. And drilled by his father to perform at a high level, much to Mike's suffering.
@talon3684 Yeah and as a result he became the most famous, the most admired, and the most talented musician/artist to have ever walked this earth.😂 Greatness isn't an easy path. His father clearly knew that. And now his father knows his next 6 generations won't have to work or struggle. If every father was that tough on their kids, we'd have more superstars.
@talon3684 Michael rehearsed his concerts tens of thousands of times. He was a perfectionist. Where do you think he learnt that? From his childhood. And it stuck. Lucky for us.
@@j3i3h38 The ends don't justify the means with the way Michael's father treated him. There can be more than one way to successfully achieve goals. Ways that don't involve damaging a relationship with your child emotionally or physically like Joe did to Michael. We'd all do well to know that. No amount of anything, wealth or whatever else is worth that result.
Nobody is going to mention how cute and funny Marlon was- look like he was having such a great time !! He was so little even though he was older than Michael but he looked like he was in between growth spurts !! Lol 😂

Funny, Marlon couldn't dance at all in the beginning. But Joe Jackson's "heavy hand" turned him into the best dancer of the group. Joe was effective, but I don't endorse that way of teaching at all!

I always love when Michael and Jermaine go back and forth with each other. 2:00 mark. 🙌🏾
Next Sunday would be 50 year anniversary of his final airing in CBS
Many imitated, but never duplicated. He was such a sweet, kind and caring person. God needed entertainment and he looked upon the whole earth, and he saw a sparking light, and He called on MJ and MJ answered.
Truly talented and still sounds phenomenal in 2024!
From a child to a grown ass man. No one ever did it or did it like him.
😊I Know Right We All Miss Him.....RIP MJ💕❤🪦
MJ's muscle memory and timing at that age was off the charts!! Most people would have to go through professional training for years just to learn the basics of what 'HE' already had naturally.
His father trained him and his brothers for years and was a professional.
He was the most fluid of all ! His moves were effortless and legendary!
mike is the most talented ever but Mike was a workaholic.. I feel it’s dismissive of his overall story cos ultimately that work ethic was his demise. mike is from gary, in and those ppl are hard working and we see mike as a superstar but he truly a product of his environment. also it’s what literally killed him preparing for tour.
That...and the fact that Joe Jackson beat the hell out of Michael if Michael made just one sloppy step
@@natesamadhi33 To be fair it was Marlon who got the most punishment NOT Michael. Marlon was the hyper kid and used to miss a lot of steps in their training years. However he did improve dramatically and for a time could even out dance Michael. Also after they left Motown and became The Jacksons Marlon choreographed most of their shows. Tito also got a lot of whippings early on because he used to steal Papa Joe's guitar and one day broke a string. After Joe found out and whipped him for it he made him learn every song on the radio until he could out play his father and grown professionals. He self taught himself to play at age 10. TBH Michael, Randy, and Janet were the spoiled one's in part because they were the youngest. Also while I am not opposed to spanking kids when they do wrong I do understand not all kids require spanking to correct bad behavior. Michael wad VERY SENSITIVE so what whippings he got affected him greater than his other siblings. So that's why he had some what of an estranged relationship with his father. As for Joe, yes by today's standards he went to far but when you're poor and have a wife and 10 kids to raise it's a lot to manage and it requires you to be more strict than the average parent. Plus when he, who once had dreams to make it big in the music industry at a time when blacks were oftent cheated, ripped off, or completely shut out he knew they had to be THE BEST. So he cultivated his kids talent, got them out of the ghetto and into the business and from their blood sweat and tears they became rich, powerful, legendary juggernauts in the music world.
Hearing Jackson 5, Michael Jackson or The Jacksons music always make me wanna get up and dance. it never fails
Watching this makes me so happy and really sad at the same time because I know how things ended 😭😭

Michael Jackson. Prince, Dianna Ross. No other artists will touch them again in the next 4 generations
Michael had a natural talent for dancing seen even at this young age.

Wow, I watched Micheal grow up and lived in the same city in 1967. My life hero was Micheal Jackson. Everyone knew if Micheal kept singing he was gonna be big, but no one was ready for Motown 25. After that, no artist could stand in the same light as Michael.
When this first played on the radio I closed my bedroom door and cranked it!

I think that lead singer is going to go places. Stay at it young man.
Michael really was so energetic and talented. They all were. I wonder how hard their parents pushed them, though. I loved them. I grew up with them.
