I discovered this anime on a very depressed period of my life, and i cant describe how much helpful this anime was during that time. It helped me relax on time where i was overloaded with work.
And how are you doing now? May I ask how old are/were and what were you going through?

I was surprised how this dark and depressing series were manage to gave us an actual hopeful conclusion to it’s story. I still can’t get over the last monologue from Vincent at the end.
maby a remake of the anime could improve the story ..

This made me so sad .....
I love how it managed to make its ending land on its feet where other anime stumble so often! Vincent’s monologue about humanities return is so poignant. Bet it makes anyone want to get out of bed and do something with their life.
It really is a powerful piece, and I hope I can get into it and relax. I really love the music as well. It reminds me a lot of what people have been through and it inspires people, like me, to get up and personal about the philosophy and psychology that makes us human. It really takes a holistic unity of the schools of thinking and human studying to evaluate the world together.
Took me nearly 9 years before discovering Ergo Proxy..

its very old and has a very unique style of presenting its story
it will be confusing at some point but it will be more than worth it
and nonetheless it is highly interesting to watch
and since this is like a mystery type show
there will be lots of things to figure out after finishing the story
i couldnt figure it out so l just looked up the plot for the story and was blown away by how layered the story actually was
its definitely a masterpiece and the opening is out of the world

just saw a few episodes, and i have to say that, the story seems very good, but crap the artwork is absulutly amazing, one of the better looking animes i have seen lately, i absulutly love the GITS franchise, but comparing GITS artwork to ergo proxi, its the same as comparing 1950s special efects to 2014 CGI

A little personal information: I was really depressed when I watched Ergo Proxy, and it was also my first anime, so I have this odd emotional connection to it. Anytime I see or hear most things relating to it, I’m reminded of that time. For instance, the Funimation intro. I saw it on an anime recently and nearly cried. I hadn’t heard it in a little less than a year.
Also, I was (and am) very much attached to Re-L’s character design, considering she was modeled after Amy Lee, the lead singer/pianist of Evanescence; my favorite band and vocalist.

Oh I never thought.... it's the same. I watched this anime in my most depressed moment of my teenage life and oh how it gave me a deepr meaning of life. The songs;OP and ED gave me some sort of salvation and comfort. Idk yeah maybe it's weird but this is a nostalgic pain of mine
Its strange to come to a two year old comment with this, but I have the exact same position with Eureka Seven. While not the first anime I ever watched, I watched it at a point where my first serious relationship was falling apart, I was unbeievebaly depressed, and was on the verge of doing something very stupid. Every time I hear the OP4 from that anime I am consumed by an overwhelming sense of existential dread. I however love that anime and rewatch it fairly frequently, but it's really funny how our brains associate unrelated things to serious emotional trauma and the most random stimulus will set the scars off.
Re-L design actually attracted me to this anime since she looked so much like amy lee. I though it was a coincidence. It's only later that i learned that it was not a coincidence
so she really model by amy lee wooww i don't know that that's so awesome

Come on people, let's give Re-L some love. We need more awesome female characters like her! She's smart, headstrong, badass, cool, flawed, fleshed-out, and has a bit of an attitude. Plus, she goes through some major character development and becomes much warmer to Vincent as the series progresses. By the last episode, she's a truly dynamic character who understands her role in life and has become a better person.
The reason why so many people don't give her so much love is that her character starts to develop around ep 13 and she really changes visibly around ep 18. Plus, Vincent steals the show with his character development. Characters underwent some decent changes in this show (even Daedalus and Raul).
aaazz11999 you're right however there are some hints previously about her life/personality. for instance, when i saw the recordings by Daedelus, for me that was the point to think more about Re-L, and asking some questions. :-)

I finished Ergo Porxy two days ago.. You have no idea how I feel right now. Never thought I would be able to feel happy and sad at the same time. the anime was nice, interesting style and imagery mixed with a good story and some philosophy, particularly the episode Vincent is lost in the fog and meet a guy in a library. Damn that was some crazy stuff to wrap ones mind around.

I just finished episode 2. no regrets as of yet. It's an amazing show with an interesting plot.
sam mortazavi yeah, i'm on episode 8 or 9 I think. the plot is kind of blurry at the moment. But so far the anime is too interesting just to drop (i'm not picky on action but I am with story) because the initial plot is pretty awesome. So i'll hang in there don't you worry!

DAMN GOOD
Literally just finished Ergo Proxy, and man, what a journey. I must admit it was a little difficult and dry to follow in the beginning, but once Vincent left Romdo, did it begin to fall into place, piece-by-piece. The psychological, philosophical underpinnings had me on the edge of my seat the whole time saying to myself, "This is some trippy shit. What the fuck is going to happen NOW?" (but in a good way). I'm usually apt in predicting plot points throughout the story, but this one kept throwing me curve balls. If you enjoy thinking whilst watching anime, and have not seen this one, I strongly suggest it. I'm not usually a fan of anime, but I wholeheartedly believe there are some worth watching, and this is definitely one of them.
Steins;Gate was great, but Serial Experiments Lain sucked. Sucked bad. Was half way through and could not wait for it to be over.
Gotta cut Lain some slack. That one is 20 years old or so.
Robert Thacker Serial Experiments Lain aired in 1998, the same year Cowboy Bebop and Trigun aired. Animes far superior to it.

Berserk is easy to understand because it's not overly confusing like eva. When you think about what berserk is about then it's basically a human being struggling against fate and searching for happiness.

This is an anime that you could keep rewatching over and over.Just finished rewatching it again. Ergo proxy carries so many subliminal messages within each episode. you try to paint a whole picture but you fail untill you reach the last episode even then you look at the drawing infront you, at the rythme you combined. you still find it unfinished yet surprisingly satisfying. That is reality. but you cannot say your reality is also my reality. Your interpretation of Ergo couldn't be the same as mine even though, it doesn't mean mine is wrong nor is your's. But maybe somewhere, sometime, someone would see it like you see it,to see it through common eyes.

I started watching this when I was 18 then I stopped now I’m 23 and I think why did I stop this anime is so deep , cool , dark and full of deep reflection and morality

+Edward Escobedo There is actually quite a few of them with an idea like Ergo Proxy, but not quite the same. Try Psycho-Pass, it presents similar concept though in a different way. Though Ergo Proxy still the best for me in that regard

I wouldn't agree since in my opinion it's Ergo Proxy :D Though P-P had certain elements that hooked me up quite good. Though 2nd season kinda let me down a bit.

I still remember watching this with my loved one, it was always late at night, and I was only visiting them as they live across the world. There was something magical about watching this post apocalyptic show so late into the night, it made me not want to leave her side due to the sadness this song gave me.
