Ahh... I remember when I first watched Shiki.. So many emotions flourished inside! Fear, sadness, genuine love for the characters, anger.... Oh man, what a masterpiece! I consider it my favorite anime to date and I try my best to tell everyone I meet to watch it! *SPREAD THE WORD*, guys! This anime needs to be watched and loved by all!
Mandi Lynn Y'see.. I thought it was freaking awesome. I'm not one for horror, and when I say that, I mean I turn my head when horror movie advertisements come on. Shiki wasn't scary for me, but one part kept me up one night. The scene in 20.5 (I believe) where that mother peels the head op- uuurrrgghh... So disturbing.
IceCreamJimmies I agree with you! Sadly, my friends think it's an boring anime, but in the end it is more sad then scary (or boring) When I first watched it, I was just shocked. It is my favourite Anime, and the character developement was just good.
Crusader Jin I belive the end was a bit ugh... the end of all... It made me feel that the rest of the story wasn't necessary... The end mean the dead of the vilage and the end of the vilagers way of life...
6 years had passed but this show still hurts like hell. One of the best anime of all time. The music, the ambience, the story and the characters and their portrayal. And the desire to live and to not be alone in this world. I will never forget this show.
I just finished Akame ga killl and it left me severely heartbroken and im searching for anime with similar traits and impact and judging by all the comments this one hits hard and is on my watch list
@@keanancupido Thank you, I will watch it ASAP for sure, I`m kind of tired from the power of friendship and plot armor crap from most anime and despite Akame ga kill having such a tragic end, I fell in love with it and from what I`ve read Shiki is of similar dark and heavy tone, thats why I`ve been searching for similar recommendations.
@biohazard3554 Ahhh if you're looking for something that doesn't have plot armour, definitely Shiki. It's basically if zero plot armour was an anime 😭 You'll love it!!!
Death is terrible for anyone. Young or old, good or evil, it's all the same. Death is impartial. There is no especially terrible death. That's why death is so fearsome. Your deeds, your age, your personality, your wealth, your beauty... They are all meaningless in the face of death -Sunako
What a stupendous statement! Death is the most undrestimated and under rated beautiful gem of this universe! Even Satan, that fool understimated the beauty of not being alive, then to be perpetually roasted alive in Hell. Death means to be shut off from existence, it is better than living alive whilst being crushed in agony By God - granted, if you are idiotic enough to incur the wrath of God!
shiki is so underrated. the anime is so good, it has a deep meaning and leaves you questioning about a lot of things. It was sometimes hard to watch because it is so tragic and it made me cry, but it's so worth it watching it. and not to forget, the soundtrack is just perfect, it always gives me goosebumps
The reason of it being underrated is people like me, that love action and momentum are so easily bored with light novel like story telling, so the first 18 episodes are difficult not to drop, for example the only reason i was able to finish it was that i knew good stuff was coming because of spoilers. This anime really has that 90's structure to it, just like Heroic age, if you manage to get through the slow part, the explosive burst of emotion is that much more meaningful. I admit, that huge build up was totally worth it, and maybe the anime is better because of it, even if it makes it an unappreciated gem.
its not underrated cuz its a mediocre anime, I rated it 6/10 - plot was extremely predictable and there wasnt much character development or deep meaning inside
This anime is brilliant, you feel so attached to all the different characters (even the evil ones) which just makes the ending all the more devastating.
I think they not evil they just have to eat and a safe place and thats the village Just like sunako said she don't want to kill but she need to eat to survive
If you tried watching "Shiki" and were turned off by the first episode - give it another shot, because it gets very deep. It's a fine story that picks up traction as it progresses, and what an ending!
Honestly, music like this makes me question myself. Makes me question what I am even doing with my life, what other people doing with their life! I dont see anyone smile as much as they genuinely used to! It cannot be that social media and technology have just taken over everyone's mind! Think about it! Do you even live anymore? Do you even still have the love for detail like when we were kids. Are you one with time or are you just passive!? Wake up! Start going outside WITHOUT the phone! Go biking and live in the moment and one day you can think naturally back and thus create real memories and NOT on the phone! Where are the people that used to put so much effort into art and creativity aka music and fun activity events?? Entertainment is when you go to festivals and attend real emotional concerts and NOT because of the money! Artists should also be more natural again! Find real passion and show real love. Lets crush this artificial industry and LET US MAKE HUMANITY GREAT AGAIN! We are human beings! Not robots. We need to be able to open our hearts again. Start being more focused again and not be distracted by some addictions like drugs, smoking, alcohol and screen time. We dont need these if we can make life great on our own again! We natural beings! It is in our nature to love and to be open.
@@tufftuffson We really do need to drop our phones into a bucket of water and live life again. One reason I finally had it with playing live music was due to phones. People cannot applaud with a cellphone in their hand! And that's just one little thing...we're losing the plot these days
If vampires did really exist.. this anime would be the most realistic out of them all vampire animes. The tragedy, the drama, the pain... Its one of those animes I wish id hit my head and forget about so I can watch it again :/
I rewatched it 3 times with the OVA and other things, I can't get over it, and I still wanna rewatch it LMAO, it's just that everything about is emotional and devastatingly wholesome. In case of vamps, it showed how humans would feel after turning into one and the emotions behind it which made it more realistic than other vamp anime-
@@xx0o0xx68 Is funny, not everyone likes this anime, but for the ones that love it like us, is unforgettable, I rewatch this anime every 2 years or so and can't get over it! it is an immersive experience have never felt with any other anime!
Such beautiful OST, each time I hear it, I'm remembered of it's ending. One of my favourite Anime, it's switched perspective really makes you question morality of good and evil, and how it's all about viewpoints, from where you look.
+zycane The soundtrack really took center stage during the finale. The whole last half of the last episode was almost like a music video, just a single long track playing uninterrupted during the scene transitions.
What I loved about Shiki the most, was how well written it is. Anime fails badly at creating suspense, but not Shiki. The way the "disease" spreads and develops into a supernatural scenario is incredible. If you're not aware about the whole vampire thing being involved it can definitely keep you engaged in the immersive crescendo. Wish I could re watch it as the first time, and, omg the music guys. Listen to this.
Glad they showed that the Shiki not only had to drink blood ,but had to actually kill because just drinking the blood wasn't enough... Since one of my biggest questions was why not just take a little blood from different peole..instead of killing them off..
@@XxPolloV1412xX They also wanted to spread their kind because they feel isolated and lonely. That's why they killed people. It's selfish and can be seen as wrong but it gives a new meaning and depth to their actions and what the show wanted to convey.
Yasuharu Takanashi is a master. The music he creates are of insane quality. Not only in this show, but also in the other shows where he composed the ost's
Shiki was made out of a novel, the novel was famous first then the anime. The same author, Fuyumi Ono, also wrote another novel “the 12 kingdoms” it then released as anime series too, I find it worths a shot.
There is something very special about Shiki. I never expected to cry from a horror anime. Hit me right in the heartstring. And god the soundtrack is so good... Shiki is a true hidden gem.
This anime is so philosophical it has such deep meaning to it. It irritated me in the beginning as it was slow but when the story built up I started questioning my own thinking honestly made me question morality. Even now when I listen to the soundtrack I can track back to those emotions and no doubt i have tears in my eyes. This is one of the very few animes that have an outstanding soundtrack which will engross u more into the show and if you are a fan of instrumentals and anime osts believe me you will save these tracks in your heart even before your mp3! So if you are a kind of person who likes thinking and questioning and who likes mystery I would recommend this anime strongly. it is sadly not looked very well upon by the anime community but such shows rarely come.
+akritithegreat I clicked on this video then decided to pause it and watch the anime. So I did just that and not one tear was shed, then I came back to this video and I felt a rush of emotion and my eyes became teary. I agree with your opinion and how powerful this soundtrack is. In the end I didn't really cry because you reminded me that we aren't really sure where we stand(morality), so I realized that there was no need to become upset over something I don't know.
+akritithegreat Makes you question certain aspects of morality, like whether or not someone is deserving of death, even if they are a threat. It actually reminds me somewhat of Golem from Lord of the Rings. There are multiple places in which both Bilbo and Frodo had both justification and the means to kill Golem but chose not to. Gandalf remarks on this saying "even the very wise cannot see all ends". This is probably the most foreboding line in literature history because without Frodo and Bilbo's mercy Golem wouldn't have been alive to take the ring from Frodo and cause its destruction.
Nietzche agrees. All for nothing, to survive, the people lost his humanity by killing her neighbours and friends, and finally lost their homes. What a nihilsm PD: Vastator, his name is Gollum
@@wilsonjonah i know i felt the same because in reality human history is full of similarities no one wants to die but for some reason people just kill each other over little things like religion politics differences in opinion and race
Manuel Martinez “Macbeth's self-justifications were feeble - and his conscience devoured him. Yes, even Iago was a little lamb, too. The imagination and spiritual strength of Shakespeare's evildoers stopped short at a dozen corpses. Ideology-that is what gives evildoing its long-sought justification and gives the evildoer the necessary steadfastness and determination. That is the social theory which helps to make his acts seem good instead of bad in his own and others' eyes, so that he won't hear reproaches and curses but will receive praise and honors. That was how the agents of the Inquisition fortified their wills: by invoking Christianity; the conquerors of foreign lands, by extolling the grandeur of their Motherland; the colonizers, by civilization; the Nazis, by race; and the Jacobins (early and late), by equality, brotherhood, and the happiness of future generations.... Without evildoers there would have been no Archipelago.” -Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn; The Gulag Archipelago
+Rica F That's the one thing that really grabbed me about this anime, the osts. If it were not for them, I don't think this would have been my favorit anime. It's the whole pack that made this anime so good.
This was studio Daume's last work before they stopped making anime. I watched this with two of my friends who were confused, but this will still be one of my top animes forever. I was rooting for the villagers to get justice, but in the end there really was no wrong or right side.
I watched the show because I was searching for top emotional anime songs, and Eau de Vie and Day and Night were just stuck in my head...I knew there had to be a backstory elsewhere. I watched Shiki and stuck to the episodes every night--it kind of changed me because its words were very powerful and meaningful. The horror style showcases life and humanity's abomination. The thing is, music is just supposed to be a 'background' or an 'etc' to an anime, but composers like Takanashi Yashanaru (also from Naruto) has elevated the musical standards of every anime...the music itself has a soothing story to it; it's already filled with too much emotions that when added to the story, you will tear up, because it's a great combination. Good story and a good music, best anime.
Good comment, I love the anime community. By watching anime we discover something that other people don't. And you are right what you said about yasuharu
A teenage girl is repeatedly run over by a tractor. A wife is tortured and experimented on by her husband. A forgotten, unloved boy is murdered by his sister. A reckless son is impaled by his father. A child is kidnapped and left in a closet. A girl shakes with dread. A gentle grandmother attacks her daughter. A helpless father loses his sanity. A mother buries her entire family. A nurse shrivels in the sun with a sweet teenage boy. The sweet teenage boy attacks his best friend. His best friend blows himself up. They only wanted to survive, but in the end they all died.
@@molhemalaa1252 if I remember correctly Sunako brings up that it's not just about drinking the blood.. they actually had to go through with the kill to satisfy the hunger.. makes you wonder if they wouldve survived what happens when there is no more humans..
I honestly really loved this anime. It was very emotional, and I can agree the soundtrack is indeed very powerful. I remember watching Shiki and becoming kind of impatient, as the show was quite slow in the beggining. However, it did satisfy me near the end. I started to think more deeply about what "evil" really is. It can certainly change your view of things, and I've never watched an anime before with such a clear message. It made me shed a few tears... or maybe more than a few.. I'm quite upset not many people know of Shiki, so I try to tell all my friends about it. Although, that's quite hard since people don't really look at the true meaning of it. They rather think of it as, "scary", quite possibly because of the gore and all. But, if you really do pay more attention to the story, it can really get to your soft spot.
I believe there is actually a thing such "evil" Evil does exist wether one wants to accept/believe that or not but with shiki I think it was a combination of fear and misunderstanding. I believe the war in the end could have very well been avoided. The shiki despite the way they went about things, just wanted a home to call their own, to have a family. Sotoba was to be their home. The villagers of sotoba were just people who hated change, they refused to accept it and were trapped in their old ways. With that kinda mindset it's obvious that there would have been some fall out. However ignoring that the villagers were also kind and caring and was open to having the shiki around even though they didn't know what the shiki actually were. Now with that said I believe that if the shiki spoken to the right individual such as seishin then they could have worked something out. They could have organized a blood drive of sorts to help out the shiki with their hunger. There was many obvious solutions in my opinion. They really could have lived side by side as family but the shiki choose what was easier to them and began terrorizing and feeding on the villagers. Thus the humans retaliated. It was a sad turn of events no matter which way you look at it. A war truly didn't have to happen. Honestly I can't even bring myself to watch through shiki in entirety again. While I *was* on the side of the humans I did care for the shiki and although megumi was made to be a cruel girl I felt for her, I understood her situation and her pain and I just wanted to comfort her. Whoa this is a long comment lol, sorry. This is just my opinion on the matter.
Shiki was the first Anime I watched that I actually grew emotionally attached to, both character wise and story wise. The soundtrack is perfectly haunting and beautiful, and the story is so easy to get lost in. It really is one of those very rare gems that can never be beat.
This is one of those shows that I wish I could rewatch over and over again like someone who had never seen it before. It's a masterpiece. The character development and evolution of the plot is phenomenal.
*Anime isn't just "an anime" or else it wouldn't have impacted so many people, connect, even brighten us, the community that has formed around this is something to behold. Thank you to the people who write manga and anime you've truly touched many of our hearts and have carved a legacy for many to remember. Its not just an anime.. its a teacher, its a lesson, its a motivator, and its something that helps you become who you want to be, its a booster in learning your path and if you try to tell me otherwise ill tell you that's your opinion, this is mine*
When I started watching Shiki I expected a typical horror anime cliche when I saw the little girl. I thought "Ok she's the mastermind behind the killings and she's evil and crazy." I was so wrong....so so wrong. She ended up being one of the most tragic characters in a cast of already tragic characters. Shiki, while not perfect, is really one of the best horror anime ever made. And this is attributed to the wide arrange of characters and dilemmas.
ioji jjk i think it is my favorite anime of all time. it was very well made and spooked me in every way. keeping me awake at night as i expected, it was a wonderful anime, as i still have a few episodes to finish. it is a very well made anime and i hope that future generations can hear about it and watch it and carry it on into the future. it is truly a legendary anime to me and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
We also gotta appreciate the fact that the first light novels of this series came out in 2002!! Old anime are definitely the best, anime nowadays will never be able to compete with old anime, and I personally think that Shiki will forever be the best horror anime, it’s not cliché, it’s not very predictable (I could hardly predict anything at all to be honest, I’d predict something but then something completely different would happen) it’s well thought through, none of it is rushed, the concept behind it is great yet very sinister and above all else Shiki has a very technological side to it that involves a lot of in-depth thought for you to completely understand the meanings behind it, something which most anime nowadays either don’t have, or are just very shallow with their meanings and depth. Man was Shiki deep.
Except she literally is the mastermind behind the killings. And she's doing it for an entirely selfish reason. Also it's directly stated at some point in the anime that a vampire cannot kill with a single bite/drinking session. And yet somehow she apparently "accidentally" killed someone when feeding which is why she ended up on the run? Lies.
@IGDS Gaming in Shiki it takes 4 bites to kill if i only bit u once then moved to another the next day u will feel like shit but it wont kill you also blood donors are also an option but i wouldnt do that for fear of having my rights taken away
I mean... in my opinion yeah, it's still okay to want to live, but it's best if the dead stays dead. The vampires' lifestyle kinda prevents them from being able to exist as a permanent species anyway. (Once they take over the world, they're going to run out of food/humans with even more mouths to feed.) It would be easier to rest when you aren't revived in the first place. (Then again, as Zeke said, they could go by fourths instead of trying to "DESTROY EM ALL" and turn them to vampires.)
My mother belief is if you turns into a vampire...you must take your life for others safely...well it was like the nurse and the blond guy's belief in this anime, they saw themselves as monsters and wanted their death. people have different beliefs and we saw this difference in the anime and we can see it in the real world too.
A brilliant horror anime. With a very disturbing setting and an amazing soundtrack (Eau de Vie being my favorite). How you interpret this anime is up to you, but I love that it actually allows you to do so, which is rare in the horror genre. For me it is an invasive and aggressive species that is gradually becoming more human, while still not being compatible with humans. The humans on the other side show that they can be as brutal as beasts themselves, leaving no room for aggressors.
Shiki is by far the best anime horror I have ever watched. It's full of so many emotions, thrills, and mysteries that keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time! You really can fall in love with the characters, and the ending gets me every time. TwT
+Redd Skye agreed this made me upset for a few days i mean when i watch sad things i have regrets for a few days thinking about how sad they are and they just keep on my mind
Yeah. It's fantastic. The cloudy morality of both sides actually makes it more of a psychological in my opinion because it's done so well. I know people who like the genre love it, but it's horribly underwatched/underappreciated by the mainstream anime community. It's one of the most thought-provoking things I've seen, not even considering that it is an anime.
Shiki will and will always be my favorite anime. Soundtrack, the animation everything about Shiki is prefected. Made me cry, made laugh. This is everything a death themed vampire anime should be.
a lot of people misinterpret this anime. There's no side that's completely good. Both of them do what have to be done. 2 species struggling for survival. THAT'S THE TRUTH OF THIS WORLD. There is no such thing as absolute justice or absolute evil. The shiki did evil things to survive and in the end, got what they deserve. The humans fought back mercilessly for their survival, losing their homes in the process
Samuel Ooi I don't know, even the Foundation gets a little crude sometimes. Although that's generally a result of the anomalous properties of the SCP they're trying to contain.
I don't often comment on youtube about animes but you know.. Shi-ki isn't about picking a side or show a situation where noone's right. To me it's more about showing how cruel and unfair war is. I mean, the only enemy here is war and anger itself. Watch the anime again with this in mind and it'll maybe sound more clear to you. Unless I misunderstood you and you know that already
I'm stuck in the hospital, recuperating from a car accident. This is just what I needed. Thanks, Dreamy. Edit: Finally discharged. Got a long road and a lot of PT to go, but I'll make it. Thank you everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. Love you all.❤️

I just finished seeing Shi ki, and I must say it was one of the most beautiful souls I have ever seen; powerful the contrast between good and evil, but then you wonder who is good, who is evil. My favorite character was Megumi. After all, she was a girl who wanted to live in a city full of lights and young people ... rest in peace, little Megumi :(
I think Shi-ki is one of the most beautiful dramatic soundtracks on EARTH! The orchestral and choir sounds makes it like you would listen to heaven! Its just incredible wonderful!
Echo is one of my favorite tracks... It sounds so important, yet nostalgic and sad... Kinda like life itself. It's like listening to a deep suffering hidden in something beautiful... Echo is like the darkness and violent feelings inside someone of innocent appearance... This song has so many feelings on it that is my favorite above all... I love Shiki.
Yasaharu Takanashi is an amazing composer. He made soundtracks for anime's like naruto and fairy tail too. Now he is working with Boruto and boruto's recent sound tracks high alert, vessel, conspiracy, promise is amazing. My favorite composer...
"Death is terrible for anyone. Young or old, good or evil, it's all the same. Death is impartial. There is no especially terrible death. That's why death is so fearsome. Your deeds, your age, your personality, your wealth, your beauty... They are all meaningless in the face of death." -Sunako Kirishiki
Well the shiki where clearly in the wrong simply because they did not need to kill in order to survive. It is in fact against their best interests to kill but they did it anyway
Carl Johnson I finished it few weeks ago too, but when i think about it it almost makes me... well you know.. *goes to corner and starts to well you know what again*
Fking cried like baby in 1st episode. Love it. Have become another favorite of mine and definitely recommend to ppl ik who watch animus. So dark and so amazing, the music the story fabulous. Is painful to watch how both sides are trying hard to survive just so they could live and I actually by the end felt sorry for the shiki. Everytime I hear the music makes me cry and brings back flash memories from the series.
Yeah u must watch .. it's plot is quite interesting but not gonna lie ..it's freaking depressing especially at the end but it wasn't boring at all.. if u don't like vampires or horror then u won't probably enjoy it
Ohh but I did enjoy it and, yea ur right it was pretty depressing once the shiki killing started I felt sorry for them, specially sunako and megumi, the way she was killed was just plain cruel and brutal and toshio, nao who just wanted a family was so sad by end I was crying at every episode I don't usually like horror cause sometimes there is just mindless blood gore but this was exceptionally good to watch and no was not boring at all not even in the start. A must recommend to anime lovers
Postacie tam to wspaniała rzecz. Każda ma swój własny charakter. A soundtrack... Ma soundtrack brak mi słów! Ściągnęłam go sobie i non stop słucham :D Musiałam gdzieś to napisać bo inaczej bym nie wytrzymała :") Jeśli ktoś przeczytał to dziękuję ^^
The music in this anime is really outstanding, the composer outdid himself. It creates and recreates atmosphere of the series so perfectly, you don't even need to rewatch it.
The soundtrack is what is mainly made it scary, yet calm. The animation was good and how they protruded vampires and how one becomes one. It was absolutely great but skull tearing the end, it made me feel incomplete like there needs to be next chapter to it which makes my mind work double time in comparing it to our world and how close similar it is.
Shiki is sits within my top 5 favorite anime - and I've watched over 500. Going into it without reading a synopsis or any genre tags, it really put me in the position of the town folk. I remember constantly trying to figure out what was going on. Fantastic OST, too.
I frankly love this series so much. This anime gets a bit of hate. You never know what side you'll end up on. I am particularly more on the side of the Shiki. One must do what they can to survive. I also understand that people aren't too fond of the Shiki because they are 'monsters' and the catalysts of destruction in this, but please, this is all an opinion and others really shouldn't hate on some of these characters.
+DrkChrome I fully agree with you. That is the whole beauty of this show. When I first watched it, I went in completely blind. I didn't know a thing about it, just it's name, so while watching it, I learned alongside the characters. In the beginning I was confounded at what was going on, working my brain overtime to construct an answer, then as the series went on and more pieces fell together, I understood. Since most of the exposition was on the human side at first, I leaned more toward them, but the more I watched and the more I learned about the shiki and their plight, suddenly, I didn't know who I supported more. One episode I was human, then next shiki. My sympathy for both sides rebounded and flipflopped episode after episode until the very end, and even during that final sequence and having to think back upon it over a year later as I type this, I still don't know who's side I'm on. Both are at fault, but both have valid reasons for their actions, and at the center of it all is their unified fear of the opposing side. It paints a powerful picture that there really is not a true 'good' or 'bad' side, just opposing forces divided by dire misunderstanding. It certainly is the most beautiful and powerful anime I've ever watched thus far.
+Ambiguous Tardigrade That's what I like about this series, there's not a real "justice". In the end everyone will just do what they need to live. I still don't know which side I should pick because if I was a human in Shiki, would I really want to side with them (shiki) or survive ?
Sounds really interesting! I've never seen Ghoul myself but I see it everywhere and I plan on watching it soon, so I look forward to see what it has to offer. If it really is better than Shiki, then I'll be a very happy girl seeing as how much I enjoyed the morality complexity in this. I really want to watch Ghoul now oAo
I feel it. This anime is my favourite one, I discovered it in 2011, and after that, I watched it.. 50 times ? Always crying in the end. (No spoilers, hehe.) Seriously, the soundtracks are beautiful as much as the story. This anime is unique and has an amazing desing. Everyone who's doupting, I tell you : just watch it.
this is one of the best soundtracks. the really slow and sad songs just capture a really beautiful and resigning aspect of death, it makes me wants to cry my eyes out
***** Do it, just because of the soundtrack. And if you like Death Note you may like this anime just because of the atmorphere, it is definetly woth watching.
***** I added it because of the music and I just finished watching it a few minutes ago. It's really good compared to the other animes of these genre, if you like the genre, it's worth watching.
***** I agree with XDragon, it had that "thinking" feel to it that you could only find in Death Note and Code Geass, definitely not a waste of time. It's real dark though, makes you question morality too
I was talking to my friend because she loves anime like this, but she didn't know whether or not to watch it because of its art style. So I said: "If your friend became a monster and you was allowed to, would you kill her?" With a confused look she replied "I don't know." I then said "Once you watch this anime you will know the answer." She watched it. And her answer? "What if we was both monsters?"
When i saw this playlist i kinda start watching anime but i didn't liked it so I stopped watching it at ep3 but when i listened this playlist i saw this comment and it motivated me to watch whole anime well your friend answer means she truly understood plot and what manga/anime writers wanted viewers to know thanks 💙
7:25 "I think death is equally terrible for everyone. Young people, old people, the good, the bad; it’s always the same. It’s rather fair in its treatment. There’s no such thing as a particularly terrible death, that’s why it’s frightening."
Shiki has such an apt OST. Calm but at the same time foreboding, like the village atmosphere during the attack of the corpse demons. What a thought-provoking masterpiece.
the track shi-ki really hit me as nao's death theme, when listening to it her screams of pain and her begging for mercy still haunt me. the VA really did a wonderful job on this scene, and so did the composer..
I love how the “boom” in epitaph at about 1:38 gives you a powerful feeling of peace, disturbance, and sorrow at the same time. It perfectly reflects the life cycle of the Shiki In the manga and anime.
Millie Bysh It's definitely worth a watch in my opinion. It's a bit slow to start and flips between people but when the story builds up and comes together it's amazing :)
Such amazing story telling. I went into this expecting to be scared but with my experience with “scary” animes I didn’t expect much. Came out of it on the last episode and the specials crying my eyes out and feeling absolutely torn lol. Never had a show provoke these emotions in me so deeply that shiki did. I’d highly recommend for everyone to watch.
OMG This soundtrack! I have not heard it before or seen this anime, but this score is so hauntingly beautiful. Exquisitely melodic, with an undercurrent of sadness. I may have to see this anime as soon as my emotions recover from Your Lie in April.
I dont know ,but every soundtrack has different melody but they are still simular and it makes me feel sad but I love it,every soundtrack has a different theme, some of them are about all shikis, some are about sunako, some about love, deaths and other characters,if u dont belive me just listen to it better.
it is very unique i wont is great or bad it is mesmerizing it has the feeling you get if you go to an old village and see old dolls and strange drawings it different i havent seen an anime with such qualities in the end i fully appreciate the effort that was put in there
I watched Shiki a few years back. I'm watching it with my husband now. I can't quite remember how the doctor ends up convincing everyone that the shiki are real. So I'm just as into it as I was the first time around. Rewatching it I notice more of the foreshadowing about Natsuo. Another thing I noticed is the anime is great but I think some details got left out. Like why does everyone think Kanamasa is unlucky? They thought that even before the Kirishikis moved in. There's also important characters that don't get the screen time to make people feel personally involved with them. I love the anime I just have a few unanswered questions.
I think the answer to all your questions is simply that shiki is originally a novel, and you know when novels turn into movie or series alot of things get left behind
I worked on and finished a 24 episode long (animated) series, and used this song a lot to focus and immerse myself into the correct atmosphere whilst writing. It is called 'Kingdom of Hawk' and it is based on the exploits of a small rebel group led by the young and charismatic Azara, and his rise to prominence. The King (Karus) prepares his daughter the Princess (Maria) to marry into a wealthy and powerful family. Meanwhile, forces begin to collude against the rebel group, plotting their demise. It is set in a near eastern kingdom called Sisia, primarily in the capital Damascar, and other cities like Misadeen, Niniah and Rikia. It is a character driven plot that focusses on the backstory and motivations of the main cast; Azara (leader of the Hawk Rebels, the young prodigy that outwitted all the seasoned generals of Rikia), Dural (A former slave liberated by the rebels, he quickly rose up the ranks becoming Commander of the Hawk Army due to his size and power) and few more like Hikan (Archer), Reya (doctor) and Kia (female assassin). I would really like to produce a pilot episode, as i believe i can sufficiently showcase the potential of the series, the tone and unique charm of the eastern setting. However, it seems to be very expensive and i am still working on it. If i can finance a pilot, I'm sure i can finance half a season (4 episodes), eventually finishing all three seasons of the series (8x3=24).
I literally had to stop watching this show for tonight, as it affected me... and I love arts and entertainment doing that to me. The ability of the artisans, working together to bring a product that makes you think and rethink about humanity itself, and all around us we don't understand, it's just beautiful and wonderful in its own brilliant way.
All these songs are absolute masterpieces. If Shiki didn't have these songs to add to the atmosphere of the story perhaps it wouldn't have been one of my favourites, nevertheless it was a fantastic anime.
IceCreamJimmies I feel the same way. My friends thought it was scary, It had all the emotions of every movie ever made.
Kaddi Chan Wat just... good?! WAS JUST... GOOD?! It's flippin' awe-inspiring! Sooooo friggin' good! Ahhhh!!
Smack those friends for me, huh? ;)
I totally agree! I did a rewatch this week and it still hits 😭
I just finished Akame ga killl and it left me severely heartbroken and im searching for anime with similar traits and impact and judging by all the comments this one hits hard and is on my watch list
@biohazard3554 Akame is such an awesome anime. I have it on my hard drive. You will LOVE shiki. I'd highly recommend you watch it yesterday already😭
They are all meaningless in the face of death

Every time i see this anime i cry... i dunno why. i dont cry i always keep evrything bottled up
I cry hearing this but i still hear it for some reason
What a stupendous statement! Death is the most undrestimated and under rated beautiful gem of this universe! Even Satan, that fool understimated the beauty of not being alive, then to be perpetually roasted alive in Hell.
Death means to be shut off from existence, it is better than living alive whilst being crushed in agony By God - granted, if you are idiotic enough to incur the wrath of God!
Or a big enough of an idiot to belive in "God"
Malek the Paladin I was kidding mate. I don't care what you belive in and how you live your life as long as you doesnt interfere with me.
shiki is so underrated.
the anime is so good, it has a deep meaning and leaves you questioning about a lot of things.

If vampires did really exist.. this anime would be the most realistic out of them all vampire animes. The tragedy, the drama, the pain... Its one of those animes I wish id hit my head and forget about so I can watch it again :/

This is the most relatable&funny comment I've ever seen in my entire life 😭
I rewatched it 3 times with the OVA and other things, I can't get over it, and I still wanna rewatch it LMAO, it's just that everything about is emotional and devastatingly wholesome. In case of vamps, it showed how humans would feel after turning into one and the emotions behind it which made it more realistic than other vamp anime-

One of my favourite Anime, it's switched perspective really makes you question morality of good and evil, and how it's all about viewpoints, from where you look.
zycane Oh yes.
zycane Yes at points I felt bad for the shiki, even though they were killing people they were just trying to survive.
+zycane The soundtrack really took center stage during the finale. The whole last half of the last episode was almost like a music video, just a single long track playing uninterrupted during the scene transitions.
The humans were shittier in my opinion once they found out killin their own even when the dr told them how it really was
Yeah, definitely.. I miss it so much already tbh

What a nihilsm
PD: Vastator, his name is Gollum
This was studio Daume's last work before they stopped making anime. I watched this with two of my friends who were confused, but this will still be one of my top animes forever. I was rooting for the villagers to get justice, but in the end there really was no wrong or right side.

@Dyl5Star well then remember it again mate

***** I suppose so
+Tuff Kookie (정국) I thought the message was don't fuck with the human race XD
+Synvsys Somewhat 😂

When I started watching Shiki I expected a typical horror anime cliche when I saw the little girl. I thought "Ok she's the mastermind behind the killings and she's evil and crazy."
I was so wrong....so so wrong. She ended up being one of the most tragic characters in a cast of already tragic characters. Shiki, while not perfect, is really one of the best horror anime ever made. And this is attributed to the wide arrange of characters and dilemmas.
I agree. When I started watching Shiki, I didn't expect something so good. I was so wrong.... And I'm so happy that I watched this anime

Lies.
"Is... Is it wrong.. to want to live?"
@IGDS Gaming sorry m8 if i was a vanpire u just gonna have to get bit dont gotta take all the blood it goes by 4ths
(Then again, as Zeke said, they could go by fourths instead of trying to "DESTROY EM ALL" and turn them to vampires.)
if your living is predicated on the deprivation of life from other human beings, then yes. it is very wrong.

Still one of the most underrated anime of all time.

+TheKalluto AGREED
+TheKalluto The humans towards the end started reminding me of the SCP Foundation.
+Vastator Wither rather crude methods tho
Samuel Ooi I don't know, even the Foundation gets a little crude sometimes. Although that's generally a result of the anomalous properties of the SCP they're trying to contain.
I don't often comment on youtube about animes but you know.. Shi-ki isn't about picking a side or show a situation where noone's right. To me it's more about showing how cruel and unfair war is. I mean, the only enemy here is war and anger itself. Watch the anime again with this in mind and it'll maybe sound more clear to you. Unless I misunderstood you and you know that already
Literally never watched Shiki.. but I somehow often end up listening to these songs.. they're just so nice
+Kinomi *Watch it. Join us. Join us. Join us....*
+Kinomi it is good anime you should watch it real creepy
Yo I'm watching it BECAUSE of the soundtrack. Maybe that's just the music nerd in me though.
i recommend watching it. took me 2 days to finish it and it was great! I kinda feel bad for this anime its so underrated.
Itachi Uchiha
I agree 100% love it shame it isn't ann that popular, really felt sorry for few the shiki by the end
Love you all.❤️
Hope you're doing well
When you already know how it ends, Shi-ki, the theme at 14:04, has probably the saddest picture of them all...
Nicolás Espinoza ik 😢
Nicolás Espinoza they all look so happy :'(
what an utopia
They could have ended it like that, but it wouldn't have been such an interesting anime if they didn't end it like they did.
If only.

I just finished seeing Shi ki, and I must say it was one of the most beautiful souls I have ever seen; powerful the contrast between good and evil, but then you wonder who is good, who is evil. My favorite character was Megumi. After all, she was a girl who wanted to live in a city full of lights and young people ... rest in peace, little Megumi :(
Anyone else other than me listen to this like everyday?
I listen this soundtrack went i hava to study. Allways in the night 😋
TheLegendary100 how about until now??? R u still here
@@dreamertt5164 right?
@@Gabriel9912345 Yes???
@@dreamertt5164 I was agreeing with your comment above ^
My favorite composer...
epitaph gives me chills everytime
Favorite One.
There's something tragically beautiful about Yasuharu Takanashi's music. No matter what anime it was composed for.
こんなにも海外の人達が見てるのか。嬉しい限りです。
Hearing “Day and Night” play when Seishin saw Megumi and the other Shiki standing outside the clinic staring him down gave me chills
"Death is terrible for anyone. Young or old, good or evil, it's all the same. Death is impartial. There is no especially terrible death. That's why death is so fearsome. Your deeds, your age, your personality, your wealth, your beauty... They are all meaningless in the face of death."
-Sunako Kirishiki
It's the only anime that made me wrestle with myself about who's right and wrong, the human or shiki vampire
Well the shiki where clearly in the wrong simply because they did not need to kill in order to survive. It is in fact against their best interests to kill but they did it anyway
You should watch Shinsekai Yori. Trust me and finish it all the way through.
@@eggdrasilwarthog6507 The goal was coterie-building, not mere survival.
@@DarkAdonisVyers I know but murdering people because you feel lonely is still rather clearly wrong i my opinion
@@eggdrasilwarthog6507 Murder requires intent to kill. The intent here is siring. It's just a high death rate because it's done haphazard.
What an amazing series... I finished it 2 days ago and it got you really thinking.
Carl Johnson I finished it few weeks ago too, but when i think about it it almost makes me... well you know.. *goes to corner and starts to well you know what again*
~KisamItachi~
I feel you man, was such a great series
( and I dont really get you, you mean cry? =p )
Carl Johnson Ye lol
Carl Johnson Yeah I finished it yesterday, I still don't know what side I agree with to be honest
gonna watch Shiki now, but i can already tell from the Music , gonna cry like a baby for sure. Music is amazingly good and awsome.
+Prathmesh Kandar How was it?
Prathmesh Kandar what about now?
Postacie tam to wspaniała rzecz. Każda ma swój własny charakter. A soundtrack... Ma soundtrack brak mi słów! Ściągnęłam go sobie i non stop słucham :D Musiałam gdzieś to napisać bo inaczej bym nie wytrzymała :") Jeśli ktoś przeczytał to dziękuję ^^
Przeczytał :D
I ja przeczytałem :)
Wow after watching the anime this makes the music even sadder.
Day and Night is the saddest for me because the screen thing they used ; - ;
i can still hear nao's screams when listening to shi-ki..
I watched this series when I was in school....7 years later, I still rewatches it and I still listen to its osts. A master piece this series is.
When your a kid this anime is torture
I make it a tradition to watch it once every year around October, just like watching Your Lie in April in... well, April
Shiki is the most amazing anime ever 💜
yeah I totally agree with you.
Berserk is the best manga
Shiki's OST is one of the very few anime OSTs that give me chills to the bone. Love it.
twilight is definitily my favorite. The child makes it even sadder.
She is probably talking about the track called "Twilight", not the movie series.

Wow, what a badass collection! There's no way not to listen and not get excited, sensational! Infinite gratitude!!!!!
The music in this anime is really outstanding, the composer outdid himself. It creates and recreates atmosphere of the series so perfectly, you don't even need to rewatch it.
I just found this cause I was feeling nostalgic about this anime I have watched it twice.
The music is out of this world.
Muroi-san.. Muroi-san.. tell me what do you think.. We never ask to be born in this way at the first place.
I also understand that people aren't too fond of the Shiki because they are 'monsters' and the catalysts of destruction in this, but please, this is all an opinion and others really shouldn't hate on some of these characters.
i agree with you 100%, and in the end of the series , humans prooved to be worse than shikis.
I think Tokyo Ghoul does a better job exploring moral subjectivity. On how people just do what they have to do in order to survive.
I love how hauntingly melancholic this soundtrack is.
I feel it. This anime is my favourite one, I discovered it in 2011, and after that, I watched it.. 50 times ? Always crying in the end. (No spoilers, hehe.)
Seriously, the soundtracks are beautiful as much as the story. This anime is unique and has an amazing desing. Everyone who's doupting, I tell you : just watch it.
this is one of the best soundtracks. the really slow and sad songs just capture a really beautiful and resigning aspect of death, it makes me wants to cry my eyes out
This anime is unique
It made me think about life
I cried a lot
I didn't see evil people or good people in it i just see people who wanted to live
Thanks to this soundtrack, I might add this anime to my plan-to-watch list.
***** You should! That's why I watched the anime; I heard the soundtrack online. It was amazing.
***** Do it, just because of the soundtrack. And if you like Death Note you may like this anime just because of the atmorphere, it is definetly woth watching.
XDragonDeOzX Yeah I love Death Note. And atmosphere is very important to me so I'll give it a go, thanks.
So I said:
"If your friend became a monster and you was allowed to, would you kill her?"
With a confused look she replied "I don't know."
I then said "Once you watch this anime you will know the answer."
She watched it. And her answer?
"What if we was both monsters?"
".......Then we can live together 4ever.....(and then kp comes the humans and kill them.....)....The end
+Diabolik_81_Lovers Berg its just not possible for humans and the shiki to co-exist with or another
Then, you have not really good friends.
Zed Bot I know, she was a great friend and understood the deeper meaning of basically everything.
This made me see the anime.
I love how the “boom” in epitaph at about 1:38 gives you a powerful feeling of peace, disturbance, and sorrow at the same time. It perfectly reflects the life cycle of the Shiki In the manga and anime.
Is Shiki good? These osts sound awesome :3
Millie Bysh it's worth watching, the story is quite interesting... if you like this kind of genre :D
Millie Bysh It's definitely worth a watch in my opinion. It's a bit slow to start and flips between people but when the story builds up and comes together it's amazing :)
but the song of the introduction is awful in my opinion :D
100% agreed on that xD
DhuumB Aren't all Anime introduction songs awful?
The music really send the chills. "Laa la la laaahh".
All the soundtrack is amazing but the most touching is Eau de Vie, i think that's for me and for everyone if you really saw the anime
That's definitely the best one

I dont know ,but every soundtrack has different melody but they are still simular and it makes me feel sad but I love it,every soundtrack has a different theme, some of them are about all shikis, some are about sunako, some about love, deaths and other characters,if u dont belive me just listen to it better.
+Rogerice1 In my opinion, Shi-ki was the best one
Thank you for making this playlist it’s ridiculous how hard it is to find the soundtrack music
it is very unique i wont is great or bad it is mesmerizing it has the feeling you get if you go to an old village and see old dolls and strange drawings it different i havent seen an anime with such qualities in the end i fully appreciate the effort that was put in there

This is the best instrumental music I've ever heard. I can't describe the way it makes me feel
This series was one of the most profound shows I'd ever watched. Definitely changes your views on certain things.
Shiki has the most tragic soundtracks imo they sound holy but also gives u a mix of very empty sad and scary feelings
Jigoku Shoujo did the same to me
One of the best anime I've ever watch. This song still linger in my mind from time to time.
I think the answer to all your questions is simply that shiki is originally a novel, and you know when novels turn into movie or series alot of things get left behind
the music is so hauntingly beautiful
it fills you with dread, yet you cant stop listening
Music so beautiful and impactful, it's hard to believe it was all made for an anime
I agree
All your videos have stunning pictures OMG. The images alone can make me cry.
Eau de vie is my favourite, always gave me goosebumps. Megumi will always be the saddest death for me.
Grats on 1 Million Views :)
All these songs are absolute masterpieces. If Shiki didn't have these songs to add to the atmosphere of the story perhaps it wouldn't have been one of my favourites, nevertheless it was a fantastic anime.
A very dark anime but with fantastic music. Sad, sorrowful, touching, somber.... beautiful.
