'4 or 5, whatever' Gregg has such an avant garde idea of review scores. Shows how much he keeps up with the times. He will be proved right on VHS too once people realise how garbage dvd and blu rays are and how they cause Corona.
Part of the reason is because they haven't seen any of the movies besides maybe those in the first episode. They film entire seasons over the course of one or a few days, so most of the movies aren't out. So they literally couldn't give an informed opinion even if they wanted to
Tim really knows his stuff: "Works of film can be comprised of but 5 broad categories: Action, drama, comedy, suspense, and...of course dance. If it were possible to create a film containing these five, yes, that movie-film could truly be said to have it all." -- Steve N. Speilburg (1743, Filmster)
As a drocter, I took the liberty of assessing what exactly makes a Tranghead and a Gorghead, check itout: Phase 1: 10-20 episodes in; You are curious because you know Tim Heidecker is funny, but you’ve never seen him outside of Tim & Eric before. You also have no idea who this unsightly Gregg character is. You start to pick and choose throughout the seasons of episodes where they review some of your favorite films that you know. You skip the ones you don’t know because why would anyone want to watch a review of something they don’t care about. Phase 2: 20-40 episodes in; You’ve settled into the format and start to become comfortable with Gregg. The episodes so far have been funny, but not laugh out loud shit your pants funny. You continue watching because now you’ve realized it’s a quick and enjoyable way to kill 5-10 minutes. Plus you love movies. Phase 3: 40-60 episodes in; Alright, now the show is starting to get funnier and funnier by the minute. You have seen enough now to start to pick up on all the subtle recurring jokes that weren’t funny back in Phase One. You aren’t a total Gregghead or Timhead yet, but you’re getting there. You’ve started to realize that every single idea Tim has is destined to get someone hurt or killed. You might be ready to watch the full highlights of “The Trial”, but if not definitely will be in the next phase. Phase 4: 60-80 episodes in; You suddenly burst in a fit of giggles at the slightest things these people say. From “Hey Guys” to Tim’s name mispronunciations, this show is becoming the best thing to ever happen to you. You are now mentally dedicated to finishing the entire 110 episode series and then some. You might have even gone back and rewatched a few just to fill yourself in on the storyline. Chances are, you’ve randomly selected an episode where Tim is maimed or beaten beyond words and you want to go back and see the slow progression of what got him there. Also, by this phase, you HATE Dr. San. Phase 5: 80-100 episodes in; You have subconsciously begun rating almost everything you see in life on the “5 Bags of Popcorn” scale, even things that don’t have to do with cinema. For myself in this phase, I began rating cars and houses I’d see as “5 Bags of Popcorn” if I really liked them. It just happened automatically. You may be reading this in Phase One and think “that will never happen to me”, but don’t kid yourself, accept it. Depression of the realization that you will soon be out of fresh, never before seen episodes starts to haunt you. You try to stop as to leave some for the future, but you eagerly devour them daily until the final phase sets in. Final Phase: All 110 episodes viewed; Prayers for a full 12th season begin to run through your mind. Memories of all the times Tim yelled or Gregg did a popcorn classic spring into your mind throughout the day to give you a hearty chuckle. The 1,000+ inside jokes are now easy to spot. You are a total Gregghead or Timhead and you feel absolutely included in the On Cinema At The Cinema family. You can’t think of the films Star Trek IV or Oh God! without splitting a side. You develop your own personal “favorite running gag” to comment on or discuss with others in the “family”. Mine being how every episode spans from 5-15 minutes long yet they are ALWAYS concerned about “if they have enough time left” for Gregg’s segments when there is clearly no time limit at all. Welcome to the family! FORYOURHEALGTH!
I read that and liked it. But with your John C avi I realized that it’s kind of special that OCATC has not had basically ANY celebrity guest spots, even though I bet Tim could get quite a few of them if he wanted. Obviously you have Joe and people like Peyton Reed, but honestly I’m glad that we don’t also have a John C Reilly or Jack Black side character or whatever. It would harm the verisimilitude and make this show that much less special. Mwah.
And of course I should add that John C Reilly and Jack Black are definitely funny performers that would do a good job, but it’s just not On Cinema if you’re recognizing funny people playing characters.
Dr San was a beautiful man. A healer. A shaman. He had no time for the typical medical establishment whose only goal is to make a profit. They WANT to make and keep you sick. Dr San, with his tinctures and especially his knowledge of psychotropic vaping, saved many lives, despite what the DA and others have said. He was a wonderful person and I'll hear nothing bad said about him.
That was a really judgmental, uncalled-for comment from Gregg. Not all of us have read The Hobbit or seen any of the movies, especially those of us in the illiterate shut-in community.
I love how excited Tim is about the CGI elements in The Hobbit and Gregg just craps on it ‘not worried about the details, that’s the way you should enjoy it too.’ 😂
I'm happy with the reach it gives, mainstream followers tend to water down production IMO (ik this is pretty much the mainstream of alternative, but there's a reason for that lol)
I love the way that in the intro tim always says "we'll tell you which movies to see and which ones to skip" and then seemingly NEVER says to skip anything lol
A lot of people may hear Tim “fucking up literally every name of every cast member and every movie he presents” But I hear a man who is just deeply emotional about film
There's more going on here than may be plainly obvious to some people. I'm 8 episodes in and I can see where this may be heading. It's quite dark and subtle in development. Enjoying it so far.
I bet Greg was in hobbit heaven when he heard about the new Rings of Power movie. A lot of people said it looked cheap, the characters were horrible and the story didn't make any sense, but I think if you ask the hard-core fans of the hobbit genre they'll agree that bits of it were almost as good as the hobbit films, and some of the action was actually better than the celebrated sequence in the first film when all the hobbits are in the barrels going down the river.
"Great Music" - Gregg Turkington Something we would never hear from him in any future episodes. I support his crusade to keep On Cinema ABOUT the movies.
This episode is worth it alone for the Popcorn Classic section where Gregg does a deep dive into the George Burns film, "18 Again." His insightful review highlights his unrivalled position as a true film buff and scholar. Move over Roger Ebert!
As an expertise head I would like for this episode to have had more meat to it. But I’m still glad Gregg was able to pump up the hobbit to get those Oscars!
"We should have two episodes because these films are so big"
"We should"
"We won't"
@@Booksaplenty1 thank you for eyeballing the run time
They didn't
Bilbo Baggins is a personal hero of Gregg Turkington
😹
Also is mine. You don't need to know the storyline but I did feel it in my bones.
Thanks for clarifying that.
He's a bit of a hobbit freak after all
At the end of the day, Bilbo is what makes the movie rock and roll.
“Yeah, four or five. Whatever. Great music.”
"Bilbo Baggins, thats what really makes this story Rock and Roll!"
Never seen this before but the seats are seated facing the camera, but the stage is behind them, just such funny details they put in the show
😂
omg you're right
Well damn you have a good attention to detail. Viewers like you is why those were added.
These Hollywood shows are so incredibly detailed.
I think it's a green screen behind the first row
This is the episode that finally convinced me to watch Les Mis, and now I'm a huge Les Mis head.
Les misrebels if you will
As a Jean Valjean freak, I was pretty impressed with their surprisingly deep and thorough analysis of L.M.
Mish Head
I love how Tim continuously calls it "Hobbit"
im sort of a hobbit freak
Someone who reads the Alfie webcomic.
Possibly the most influential episode of on cinema.
So many callbacks
this is where us HOBBIT heads kneel and pray to George Lucas
'Finally!'
"TIny short small hobbits vs. the tall humans"- Careful Tim, you almost ran out of adjectives there.
Big tall large humans
It kinda makes him go...
i like the depth review they gave les mis
"Great music"
"Yeah, four or five, whatever."
They really should have done Les Mis in it's own episode.
It's a 4 bagger
@@CobraClutch34they should’ve. they didn’t.
It’s funny watching this now and seeing Tim actually trying to feign interest and talk about movies.
@Smunstu Stinkymonster Because in the more recent episodes he doesn't even pretend to care about the films they talk about.
Yeah, retroactively you can tell movies were just one of the phases he indulged in for like a year in his never-ending quest to find himself.
2:11-2:22 Tim almost can't take it. That straight-face struggle.
'4 or 5, whatever' Gregg has such an avant garde idea of review scores. Shows how much he keeps up with the times. He will be proved right on VHS too once people realise how garbage dvd and blu rays are and how they cause Corona.
Lol they were saying that these movies should be covered in two videos, and this video was shorter than average.
They really killed it with that Les Mis review. Riveting stuff
Love how Gregg can barely make eye contact with Tim but makes too much eye contact with the camera.
"If Michael Jackson is the king of pop, Peter Jackson is the king of movies"
Aye. Love your videos
Rationale as smooth as ice per usual
Tim's look to the director after his comment is priceless. Tim knows how to be funny and knows you know that he knows but it's still funny.
"Bilbo and the Gang"
Smaug is one of the classic characters of literature
I love how their opinions are painfully generic.
It sort of makes you go...
Part of the reason is because they haven't seen any of the movies besides maybe those in the first episode. They film entire seasons over the course of one or a few days, so most of the movies aren't out. So they literally couldn't give an informed opinion even if they wanted to
I like to think of them as two men reviewing movies; one who has no discernible interest and the other with no discernible taste.
@@isaacberger6721 That makes this even better. Somehow they had me convinced that Gregg and Tim had seen them, just weren't very insightful.
Shows what you know. Gregg is a recognised film expert, How dare you call his onions GENERIC.
having said that, who knows.
Tim really knows his stuff:
"Works of film can be comprised of but 5 broad categories: Action, drama, comedy, suspense, and...of course dance. If it were possible to create a film containing these five, yes, that movie-film could truly be said to have it all."

Only am man who made an E.T. could weave words together like that. A true wizard!
"You've got Morgan Freeman..."
Kinda makes you go 2:40
Best thing ever.
Thank you so much
I'm too high for this
Tim thought he was gonna get him with that, but Gregg stone faced it
"Bilbo and the gang"
Lmao tim breaks like 5 times in this one. You can hear him laugh when Gregg is on screen
2 of the biggest films that year. The shortest episode ever :).

I fucking love this show. Its so abrasive and informal. Gregg is sooo funny!
"Les misry-balls"-lol
what hole have you been living in; a hobbit hole?

You know the story. If you haven't read the Hobbit, what kind of a hole are you living in, a hobbit-hole?
2:25 Tim makes a really good point here, made me go "hmm"
I'd love to know which film was talked about in the intro. Action, drama, comedy, suspense AND dance!? Wow, hell of a movie.
Sounds to me like Hobbit: an Unexpected Journey
Tairy Greene: Little Dancing Man
Most likely The Terminator.
a One Piece movie maybe ?
Footloose
Action, comedy, suspense and dance all I look for in a movie
the big star bilbo baggins, the hobbit himself
why has this series not blown up

loving this
idk why the way he goes "hah man, this movie had it all," at the start is so incredibly funny to me
I just love making myself a big tub of butter popcorn and watching tim heidecker on the big screen video machine in the privacy of my own home
It's better to watch him in theater
I like to watch Tim in the privacy of other people's homes.
Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey is great, you've got Morgan Freeman, Egan McKellan, Mitch Richard Armigshit...Armitage. Finally!
When you got movies like Morgan Freeman in them..
I will see ANY movie that Ethan Stewart is in.
The picture for the Hobbit Hug was brilliant.
It takes talent to put that together on a live webisode.
I love how Tim always stumbles on his words
I love that they never give anything lower than four bags of popcorn
Lolol I died at 2:39. Tim can barely keep from laughing
That intro is just excellent.
I give the hobbit 5 bags of popcorn and a hobbit hug lol
" It's a delight for all ages,
I can't stope laughing.
I love this movie. "
* No zoom in* * No commentary from Tim*
"Stope"
VHS is the best format for home video entertainment.
These men are connoisseurs.
Surprised at Tim pronouncing Smaug properly! Well done! He has my vote.
can anyone think of a single movie that has "action, drama, comedy, suspense, and dance" because i want to watch the shit out of that movie
"South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut"
@@youtubecensors5419 it's even better than that, it's got romance and selflessness too. just like tim

Ooooooh god yes!

The 5 genres of movies: Action, Drama, Comedy, Suspense, and Dance
