It's what Louis is best at. Most of his comedy is about the odd behavior of humans that most of us ignore. He also makes commentary about what a good person is, and how tragic life actually is. Very deep comedian.

    • @Kenjuudo
      @Kenjuudo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +56

@@grantmalone You don't seem to get it. The thing about comedy is that stories in jokes don't have to be factual. They don't need to refer to any actual situation and can be (and often are) completely made up; they are joke stories. All they do is paint a picture. They set up the environment (context) in which a particular joke (or a series of jokes) would be more effective.
And here's another point: When a skilled comic is about to make fun of somebody they will sooner or later be making sure that the audience is on-board by shitting on *everybody* else, including (and especially) themselves. In this way the audience identifies with the *us*-group such that the comic can go on and make fun of the *them*-group. The them-group is often times the group you identified with before joining the us-group so everybody are laughing at you and your silliness. But it doesn't matter because everybody are being laughed at (for them and their silliness), thus giving everybody something to have in common. This is the reason why we absolutely need to make fun of *everybody*, INCLUDING handicapped people and minorities. If anybody are left out, they'd be alienated, dehumanized and hated (or the comic would be, depending on the IQ of the audience).
Bottom line is that the comic is either talking about an observation about somebody else or some internal thought-process within themselves. Using the ego-perspective is a tool and the defining of the target is deliberate.

Everything is not better though. The way our psyche experiences life consists of a little more than a collection of technological advances and some cherry picked statistics á la Pinker. The Doomsday clock is at an all time high 100 seconds to midnight.
We're environmentally at the precipice, overpopulation is staggering and we're running out of a lot of important stuff. Nature is reeling, and the price must be paid.
Authoritarianism, totalitarianism, inequality and so on is rapidly rising. Reality has become far too complex for people, and confusion, apathy and mental disorder is mounting. Corruption is on the rise, censorship and propaganda has exploded.
Governments world wide, especially the superpowers, have special divisions now that purposely generate misinformation. Post modernism and relativity makes it so that nothing has a specific meaning anymore, which means that nothing means anything at all. Our educational institutions are in crisis, academia has become institutional insanity. Our privacy is a thing of the past, various forms of narcissism is rampant, psychiatry lies with a broken back, the media is almost completely morally bankrupt and our leadership is dogshit. The value of truth is at an all time low, insofar as we even know what truth is anymore.
Our ability to fix any of these things seems to be almost nil. In fact, many of them are accelerating as we speak. China has now not only abandoned their 1 child policy, but has started paying its populace to have as many kids as possible. This train is not stopping until it crashes.
It's obvious that this bubble we're in currently, or just starting to exit, is about to burst and it's going to get ugly. Everyone knows it, at least intuitively, even though they may not recognize as much consciously or intellectually. So they do what people always do when there's a storm brewing, they button the hatches and think of themselves if they think at all, which is exactly the kind of playground the pathologically driven predators, money grubbers and power hungry want.
No, people have good reasons for being unhappy. Maybe not for sitting in a chair in the sky, but because they can sense that some kind of end is approaching. The end of an era, an era that was almost exclusively based on materialism. Let's hope we can get past it without anyone pushing big red buttons.

So true. Conan gets the best performances out of his guests. For example, I’ve seen Norm do the same material on other shows and the hosts are stepping all over his lines and they laugh too hard like everyone says but what’s worse, they laugh where it doesn’t belong and they ruin the rhythm of the bit. Conan on the other hand would be openly busting Norms balls about being old timey and end up making Norms next bit kill that much harder. To me Conan’s chemistry is the least forced. Letterman is the 2nd best in this regard like, he’ll allow himself to seem annoyed w his guests which is miles realer than the Jimmys but at the end of the day, he too is not as funny as Conan.

His response was altruism, which steers you away from self centered mindset. I would add thankfulness towards every little thing you have good in your life. Like I am thankful for the coffee I just had while working. Coffee too is a miracle: someone picked the beans on the other side of the world, someone built the machines that roasted and ground them, someone made the appliance that brewed the coffee for me. And just now I drank a beverage like it's nothing, while in another time would've been a privilege of kings. I literally have it better than any king only hundreds of years ago while being just an average person in my country. I will strive for being thankful of more of the little things in my life.

My first flight was at 42 Years old, it was a tour group from Mexico to NY, it was awesome although I was VERY nervous, once we took off I just told myself ..."well, we're up here now, nothing I can do about it, if it falls it falls... lets just try enjoy the flight" 😅😅
I mean, it was too hard for me to ignore that all the time there was a constant force pulling us all to death. Is really difficult for me to justify going through that LOL!

A few years ago we were flying from NYC to Chicago and my wife and I passed Louis sitting in first class. I looked right at him and said to her that it was Louis CK. It was lost on her because she didn’t know who he was.
But I would give anything to go back on that flight and scream with joy at the miracle of flight and say
“I’M SITTING IN A CHAIR IN THE SKY”!!!! He would have hated it though. Missed opportunity.
Soon after that trip we got divorced. And that’s my Louis CK story.

Other late night hosts gotta interject and throw their zingers in as well

I had a slow line at TSA and people were complaining. I told the folks near me the alternative is driving, walking, or riding in a covered wagon. They sat and thought for a while, and then patiently waited. We all got to where we were going, despite the rather discerning TSA agent that day.

Louis is 100% correct. Most people that are in my generation (Millennial) or younger have no idea how good they have it. They'll complain about the "evils" of capitalism and how "messed up our system is" while living amongst luxuries and conveniences their great-grandparents wouldn't have been able to comprehend in their youth.

@A S In addition, non-stop indoctrination in the USA telling us that a living wage (or just wages that match rising productivity), healthcare for all, affordable education, and affordable housing amounts to "socialism/communism" so anyone who wants higher standard of living ends up being anti-capitalist by default.
