Watching this series for the first time and I am enjoying how I boost the volume at the end of every episode to hear the quiet talking over the music and then am blasted by the main theme when it goes to the next episode.
This was when the relationship started to sour. Very sad, looking back on it. Tim had had his problems before this but to see Gregg so cavalierly ask for a (cool) hundred sodas... it's impressive that Tim kept his composure the way he did. Very unprofessional from Gregg.
Like tim says, almost every movie has cgi in it now. Thats why they are so good. Also like tim says its why remakes are better than the originals. Of course movies are getting better and better. Imagine in 50 years time how they will look, we will need ten bags of popcorn rating, but i guess that invention will be for the tim heidecker of the future or a reanimated Tom Cruise heidecker jr brought back from the dead using future technology, even better than cgi.
Did you not catch that Greg let it slip that 10 popcorn bags is actually the highest? He later recovers and says “five out of five is the highest”, but the cat’s out of the pajamas. This is being suppressed by the media.
Gregg's critical dissection of the Bond franchise films (1:16) is a breath of fresh air. His uncompromising standards and his post-modern perspective on film as a visual and auditory medium are pointing film criticism in a new direction. On Cinema At the Cinema is fortunate to have his expertise.
Interesting to learn that Gregg admires Abraham Lincoln! Great expertise and reviews throughout this episode. I appreciated Gregg's popcorn classic segment and Tim's ability to host the show and provide insight into some of his thoughts about these movies.
In “Murphy’s Romance” both Sally Field and James Garner played characters named Murphy, it was really confusing and a real mistake on the producers part.
First mention of _____-Head(s) from Tim to Greg saying Bond-Head, countered of course by Greg who says Bond-Freak or ___-Freak(s) for several episodes before changing it to _____Head(s).
As an On Cinema fan, I think we all enjoy the passionate discourse between Gregg and Tim the most but I was surprised at the compromising of the rating system, 100 sodas was too many and I think a very unprofessional act on Gregg's part.
New Manhattan if Tim can award six bags of popcorn on the primary rating system I think Gegg is entitled to play with the supplementaries however he wants. Of more concern is his bringing a film he didn’t like into the popcorn classics segment.
The look tim gives him when he asks why he didnt like the bond movie.... the aggression in greggs voice when he says "fine. Ill give it a hundred sodas."... how have i never watched these before
As a droctor, I took the liberty of assessing what exactly makes a Tranghead and a Gorghead, check itout: Phase 1: 10-20 episodes in; You are curious because you know Tim Heidecker is funny, but you’ve never seen him outside of Tim & Eric before. You also have no idea who this unsightly Gregg character is. You start to pick and choose throughout the seasons of episodes where they review some of your favorite films that you know. You skip the ones you don’t know because why would anyone want to watch a review of something they don’t care about. Phase 2: 20-40 episodes in; You’ve settled into the format and start to become comfortable with Gregg. The episodes so far have been funny, but not laugh out loud shit your pants funny. You continue watching because now you’ve realized it’s a quick and enjoyable way to kill 5-10 minutes. Plus you love movies. Phase 3: 40-60 episodes in; Alright, now the show is starting to get funnier and funnier by the minute. You have seen enough now to start to pick up on all the subtle recurring jokes that weren’t funny back in Phase One. You aren’t a total Gregghead or Timhead yet, but you’re getting there. You’ve started to realize that every single idea Tim has is destined to get someone hurt or killed. You might be ready to watch the full highlights of “The Trial”, but if not definitely will be in the next phase. Phase 4: 60-80 episodes in; You suddenly burst in a fit of giggles at the slightest things these people say. From “Hey Guys” to Tim’s name mispronunciations, this show is becoming the best thing to ever happen to you. You are now mentally dedicated to finishing the entire 110 episode series and then some. You might have even gone back and rewatched a few just to fill yourself in on the storyline. Chances are, you’ve randomly selected an episode where Tim is maimed or beaten beyond words and you want to go back and see the slow progression of what got him there. Also, by this phase, you HATE Dr. San. Phase 5: 80-100 episodes in; You have subconsciously begun rating almost everything you see in life on the “5 Bags of Popcorn” scale, even things that don’t have to do with cinema. For myself in this phase, I began rating cars and houses I’d see as “5 Bags of Popcorn” if I really liked them. It just happened automatically. You may be reading this in Phase One and think “that will never happen to me”, but don’t kid yourself, accept it. Depression of the realization that you will soon be out of fresh, never before seen episodes starts to haunt you. You try to stop as to leave some for the future, but you eagerly devour them daily until the final phase sets in. Final Phase: All 110 episodes viewed; Prayers for a full 12th season begin to run through your mind. Memories of all the times Tim yelled or Gregg did a popcorn classic spring into your mind throughout the day to give you a hearty chuckle. The 1,000+ inside jokes are now easy to spot. You are a total Gregghead or Timhead and you feel absolutely included in the On Cinema At The Cinema family. You can’t think of the films Star Trek IV or Oh God! without splitting a side. You develop your own personal “favorite running gag” to comment on or discuss with others in the “family”. Mine being how every episode spans from 5-15 minutes long yet they are ALWAYS concerned about “if they have enough time left” for Gregg’s segments when there is clearly no time limit at all. Welcome to the family! FORYOURHEALGTH!
For any Bondfreaks, in episode 45 of the On Cinema podcast [video 50 of 272 in the On Cinema Playlist], Gregg listed his top 5 favourite James Bond films in no particular order as: *Die Another Day* _"An exceptional movie, it's a classic"_ *The World Is Not Enough* _"A pretty genuine James bond classic."_ *The Spy Who Loved Me* _"A very exciting film, it really has everything going for it."_ *Tomorrow Never Dies* _"If you haven't seen it, umm, now's your chance."_ *The Living Daylights* _"One of our top five James Bond movies of all time."_ So I guess Gregg saying at 1:31 _"There has not been a James Bond movie that's not a 10 out of 10"_ means his top 5 is actually a top 25 (not including the two Bond films that followed Skyfall).
