Thank you everyone for your input! This game was definitely divisive to say the least, we'll be thinking of ways to reduce the feel bads in the future ;)
Yeah man. This video was more showing off disparity in power levels than actually showcasing the commanders and deck building. MLD is okay when you have a win con. Not setting the game back 4 turns.
Forget that, man. You guys boiled this down to a 20 minute video, which spared us the agony of experience. And with the exception of Brent, who was basically shut out the whole game, there was still interaction, as Matt's strategy did not guarantee him the game, in those early turns. Besides, it was still entertaining to watch. So, forget the crybabies. And thanks for another great show. :)
I'm in the boat that if you're playing a game of commander, agree upon the power level beforehand. Everyone at the table obviously discussed the power level of the decks beforehand and knew that there would be Mass Land Destruction. That's something you usually want everyone at the table to know about if you're going to be playing with them for more than just the one time. The people in the comments who are whining about the land destruction, get over yourself. You're not entitled to anything, they play what they want to play how they want to play to enjoy the game their way. I enjoyed watching it happen because it so rarely does happen in any of the commander videos you see on youtube. Like some unwritten pansy rule where you can't do mean things to each other as you play. Again, I say play however you see fit and don't pander to the loud few.

I've actually never seen (and luckily never been against) a mass land destruction deck. It was interesting to note that the Gitrog deck did not seem ready on board to take advantage of the land wipe and it was more of a way to slow everyone else down, but their decks could eventually take advantage of the situation. I'll say it here like I say at the LGS or friends house when some "rolls for who to hit" don't be a coward- pick and swing! Especially in this situation it was quite literally a no brainer. Hell if im MLD- I'll tell the table I'm the threat why aren't you swinging this way lol.
Not fun game. Imho. If you play ravages. End the game quickly. For viewers, most of the time they want to see how the commanders play. Wana see omnath though unfortunately, it is in a wrong table
Agreed. That was brutal and not fun to watch one player pop off and everyone else struggle bus. If I wanted to watch one player jerk off for 22 minutes, I would just watch playing with power
I for one thoroughly enjoyed this. I'm always the spike at the table trying to convince everyone that we should focus on expressing cool stuff with our decks and not get obsessed with what cards/strategies are unfun to play against. Staxx gameplans are cool, I love thalia/gitrog as a commander and only haven't made it because my friends told me they would hate it.
Yeah, I think most of our group views situations like this as something to try and play around/overcome, not to ban certain types of gameplay. But every groups different!
Not to add to the hate, but when 3 players are clearly playing at a casual level, going that sweaty and try-hard seems to be too much. Slimefoot and Squee should have polito-talked their abrupt decay into not being targeted and keeping it for future protection. They didn't tho, because yargole/multani was about to one shot, and its a casual match. That made it clear they werent playing competively and was keeping up the fun of the match. After the first land wipe, Thalia/gitrog should have been prime target, and even after the future board wipe. scute swarm was in the thalia/gitrog players hand! How does yargole/multani roll the dice for an attack and swing at someone, who at the time, had done nothing all game? Because only the thalia/gitrog player was playing competively. Everyone else was being casual. I dont mind sitting at a table and playing at all kinds of levels, if the expection is at least relatively equal. The thalia/gitrog player was willing to do whatever it takes to win, and no one else really seemed to be on that page. That all being said, i still did like the video because it clearly got me all up in arms enough to type multi-paragraphs on youtube, lol. I just kind of wish all the decks got to play a little more because the second I saw the video featured my favorite upcoming commanders, i was dumb excited to see what they would do. Only to have that excitement crushed by multiple landwipes as two players didnt even get to play the game. I respect playing competively, but idk, maybe discuss game expectations thoroughly beforehand. If there was a clear level of competitive expectation, than I can only say that the thalia/gitrog player played very well and that decklist is absolutely cracked.
I wouldn't say any of these decks are casual per se, all three of the other players were able to rebuild after the land destruction. This wasn't the first game we recorded with these decks, the other game may go up later. I don't want to spoil it, but Thalrog didn't fare well in that one. (fhis may have also contributed to the decision for the Yargle player to roll for opponent choice, again no spoilers, wink wink). I believe most of the table was A-Okay with the land destruction. Thanks for your passionate response!
@@TheDankestDungeon I wasn't saying the decks are casual, they were all clearly well built. Especially the yargole?multani pulling off the dark ritual, into diabolic tutor?(can't remember, that or demonic) into a toxic deluge. That was legit my fave play of the game! I'm just saying some players were clearly making casual decisions and one was not. Also, curious that wasn't your first game played and yet this is the one that got uploaded? Hard to believe that the other games were less interesting than 2 plays never doing anything... well, he omnath player did the one board wipe I guess. Edit: didn't see the rest of your comment, my b. @@TheDankestDungeonone of the guys had no lands for the entire rest of the game. Then got two and you blew them up again. As a new viewer that stumbled on this gameplay to see the new commanders, it was not fun to watch or enjoyable with that MLD killing the game, since there wasn't a finisher when you did it. This is unfortunately why many dislike MLD. Not a gameplay that will intrigue me to subscribe.
I'm curious how you guys set out to build your decks when doing a brew like this where everyone picks a commander from a set. Is there any discussion about power level, combos, strategies etc? It seems like everyone goes pretty hard with the free spells, fast mana, stax etc. Is there anything off the table as far as what can be included in a deck? Is MLD something that is discussed ahead of time or was that a surprise to the table?
We typically don't have any restrictions other than whatever combos you may include should involve your commander in some way. After this latest round of games though we're looking into breaking our games into different power level brackets and being up front with the audience at the beginning of the video so viewers know what they're getting into to avoid feels bads.
I've never been excited for a Commander to release only to have seen someone play it and become disgusted with a build immediately. Also never felt so bad for a mage with an Omnath as their commander.
Jason not killing Matt with yargle because he wanted to attack a random opponent.... I mean c'mon, you've seen the deck, you know how it is going to end.... You had a guy that almost scooped early, and you're still oblivious to the damage land destruction has done
Well played by Thalia/Gitrog, brutal with the MLD and made the right plays to win. You should post another video tho, where the other players actually get to play magic and use their commanders lol. Every game I've watch with Omnath in it he never gets played due to oppressive opponents haha
The issue with control/MLD decks is that when the odds turn to your favour, it just becomes unplayable for the opponents which IMO is less fun than a Mega Ramp Deck simply playing more than the other players. All in all it was a fair game, just reconsider posting games that didn't play very fun for most players, as it will translate to the viewers usually. Great work anyway!
Lmao how is it scummy? I'll be putting MLD in my Zask deck now just because of your comment so my opponents in the future will have you to thank for that lol.
@@MTGSavageIt wouldn't be his fault, it would just be a tantrum exposing that you like to play mass destruction of land. It doesn't seem strange to me that you like to play it with these types of comments.
While it was nice to roll for that first Yargle attack they really should have went after the Thalia/Gitrog. The only one with a board that was developed and was ready to pop off... I don't think it changes anything, but maybe makes the game go one more turn... EDIT Just remembered T&G has first strike/deathtouch sooo it really didn't matter at all lol
I would include root maze into the deck. Stax is now one of the harder archetypes to play imo due to flash speed and free spells. Good job lock the table. Not easy when taking on the whole table. If u didn't have Armageddon in there you should add it in for consistency. 4 turns geddon rotation with ouphre is the new break partial.
Honestly was hoping to watch a game showcasing these new commanders but it seem counter intuitive to see them shine when everyone's mana bases keep being destroyed. Maybe in the future if you're showing off commanders for a new set to get people excited and looking to brew their own decks you should avoid playing mass LD.
Yeaaaaah...wasn't expecting ThalRog to be that brutal. Don't get me wrong, I love it. Just did not even consider the land destruction route when it was first revealed but, hey, I am all for it!
I despise land destruction more even than mill. I applaud the composure on the table though the body language spoke loudly. Facing a deck like that my sole purpose, win or lose, would be to damage the villain in every way possible.
Super disappointing. Get to minute 5 land destruction. Not finishing the vid. Matt is 'that' one player at the table and least likable. Play with the other folks.
2 of the decks were borderline inactive. The power level clearly wasn't anywhere near similar. It's either that or the pilots just didn't deck build properly.
As far as I see everyone had an attempt of winning (Seedborn, Yawrgmoth, Genesis Ultimatum) it just happened that he had the answer to every situation just in this case. IMO Yawgmorth player, Should've swung thalia instead of rolling a dice at random, and focusing him. The table was soft on the thalia player.
Well. It was... a learning experience to see MLD... once, and I hope I never see that again in a video or on a table I play. It completely ruined the game for everyone but Thalia imo, also for us as the watchers.
That was brutal, I loved it. Do your own thing guys and let people play what they like. Plenty of channels around that adhere to all the 'social norms' of EDH. I like this channel for the more anything goes approach. Would like to see the graveyards on the screen though.

Something about this game felt dirty
"Let's all play in the dirt," probably that part ;)
No complaints against MLD, its in the game for a reason.
I'll say it here like I say at the LGS or friends house when some "rolls for who to hit" don't be a coward- pick and swing! Especially in this situation it was quite literally a no brainer. Hell if im MLD- I'll tell the table I'm the threat why aren't you swinging this way lol.
Fr. My playgroup does this sometimes and it drives me nuts.
Wooow! Freaking awesome game. Love seeing taboo cards get to shine. Mass land destruction into stax, into attrition is so nasty, I loved it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Not fun game. Imho. If you play ravages. End the game quickly. For viewers, most of the time they want to see how the commanders play. Wana see omnath though unfortunately, it is in a wrong table
Sorry you didn't enjoy the game, but everyone did get to see how Thalia/Gitrog plays ;)
@@TheDankestDungeon thats true though. Love still your videos though.. :)
Agreed!
Yeah, I figured the yargole player popped off in another game, hence the whole, "number 1 enemy" comment in the beginning of the video.
Ty for your response as well, I would love to see the other game if you guys upload it
@@TheDankestDungeonone of the guys had no lands for the entire rest of the game.
He absolutely shouldn't have rolled the dice. Kill the gitrog player
Ngl the like unfun having is fun to watch, but man I'd hate to be in that game.
(Also fun to see as a newbie to commander, not too salt inducing yet)
Yeah in mine gonna continue on the “no mass land destruction in any of my decks”
plan other than that I do like the deck list
Jason not killing Matt with yargle because he wanted to attack a random opponent.... I mean c'mon, you've seen the deck, you know how it is going to end....
You had a guy that almost scooped early, and you're still oblivious to the damage land destruction has done
Well played by Thalia/Gitrog, brutal with the MLD and made the right plays to win. You should post another video tho, where the other players actually get to play magic and use their commanders lol. Every game I've watch with Omnath in it he never gets played due to oppressive opponents haha
Check out the rematch game we have posted with these commanders!
Yeah Thalia is so oppressive...was hoping to see Omnath pop off. That land destruction feels bad.
ThaliRog drives some brutal tactics! I thought it was a really good build, though.
Happy that someone liked the deck! :)
MLD is a valid strategy. Matt played it incredibly well. Peoples feelings of MLD being "unfun" or "sad" is irrelevant. Great job, Matt.
I loved it… Land destruction is part of the game… the short made it more spectacular
The omnath player is so tilted. We've all been there
I really wanted omnath do omnath thing The guy that put ravages of warIs being slightly scummy with his deck strategy
@@KidsJavo2088 I have one deck with MLD Gishath, Sun's Avatar dinosaur tribal because dinosaurs stomp on your land and fuck your lands.

That thalia dexk is just mean bro
Wow land destruction is so fun and enjoyable that guy was bullied as a kid
I don’t know about being bullied as a kid, but he’s definitely being bullied as an adult in some of these comments.
why is the background so dark? I liked the previous room
Noted!
What a power play to blow up all lands at that stage of game
Look at all of you guys wit da fancy full art cards lol!
Locking decklists behind a paywall? Lol
Lol.

Cap.
That was just dumb, not attacking Thalog Player and taking him out. He always plays spite cards.
That “Gross” from the Gitrog player was “Gross”
anyone have a list for thst thalrog deck? i want to play it
Not taking out a player with mass land destruction and other shit like that when you can is always a mistake imo.
That was beautiful
Dark background good! Loving the content.
Glad you're liking it :)
We didn't expect it either, but makes perfect sense in hindsight! :)
Decklist for slimefoot and squee???

Please, where is Gitrogs deck list?
We post all our deck lists for our gracious supporters over on Patreon.
Gotta feel for the Omnath player. That was ROUGH.
Is there are deck list for that Thalia?
The salt from the ravages of war lol 😂!!!! This is why we play commander 😂😂😂😂💀
Haha, very salty indeed.
I despise land destruction more even than mill. I applaud the composure on the table though the body language spoke loudly. Facing a deck like that my sole purpose, win or lose, would be to damage the villain in every way possible.
nice game!
Thanks!
Super disappointing. Get to minute 5 land destruction. Not finishing the vid. Matt is 'that' one player at the table and least likable. Play with the other folks.
Honestly, i dont think the mass land destruction was that bad especially at a table at this power level
2 of the decks were borderline inactive. The power level clearly wasn't anywhere near similar. It's either that or the pilots just didn't deck build properly.
Is there a deck list for Thalia and the gitrog monster?
We post all of our deck lists over on Patreon for our supporters there.
That looked like 3 semi budget decks against a super deck lol
Sometimes that's just how it goes, other than Corbyn's budget deck the other three were all close price-wise.
This was the worst game I’ve ever watched, I woulda scooped it up the second he destroyed my first lands… what kind of an evil person does that
This is what I like
Gitrog player is a tryhard
MLD, it's only fun once until you become the archenemy and you realize you can't play it anymore
That land destruction was just overkill and make the game so boring to watch
As far as I see everyone had an attempt of winning (Seedborn, Yawrgmoth, Genesis Ultimatum) it just happened that he had the answer to every situation just in this case. IMO Yawgmorth player, Should've swung thalia instead of rolling a dice at random, and focusing him. The table was soft on the thalia player.
i really dont get why people get so bummed playing stax like this, its not like the only time you'll play commander in the year
Well. It was... a learning experience to see MLD... once, and I hope I never see that again in a video or on a table I play.
Happy you liked the video! I think we might start giving a warning at the beginning of the video for games that end up playing out like this so everyone knows what they're getting into beforehand.
Mld is always a feel bad kind of game. I feel the pain
