I was thinking about Matt's comment about why people fear Lucius, I wonder if it's on top of money and power, because he seems to be very connected to powerful people, if it was also because he was a death eater... When he gets Dumbledore temporarily removed as headmaster, he says something like the committee members thought they and their families would be threatened if they didn't side with him.

Okay, this is a bit late, but I thought it was interesting that they changed Hermione slapping Malfoy (in the book) to a punch (in the movie). Maybe because it was more dramatic/girl power-y? Regardless, it was one of my favorite moments in the third book/movie, and shows that Hermione may be a true Gryffindor after all 😋 (although I'm still convinced she is better suited to Ravenclaw)
Totally agree! She's much more a Ravenclaw. Though, I will say the Gryffindor in her comes through more in the books than films and builds more in the books, as her bravery shines.

I enjoyed the new format and I loved the chapter scenes you put in, the quick round up then the longer discussion on specific parts worked really well. I was a bit apprehensive as I was really enjoying the previous discussion videos but it was great.
I agree with Aubrey that the hero of this whole book is Crookshanks and I enjoy his relationship with Padfoot and how intelligent he is. I also really like book Hermione, she is fearsome in her protection of those she loves and other vulnerable characters. She can seem annoying but she always has good intentions and also looks after people despite what is going on with her life ie the help she gives Hagrid. I think Hermione and Dumbledore have very similar traits of empathy and looking after the vulnerable.
As someone else mentioned I think the fear of Lucius is the power of money and the family name of Malfoy which has been rich, powerful and connected to Voldemort.
I find the back history of the Marauders so interesting and I remember the initial crushing disappointment I felt when I first read the book and then the pure joy when it’s revealed that they are not bad people. Sirius and Lupin are two of my favourite characters and their relationship is fab.
Two points that Matt made. I wonder if the chains are referring to Wormtails fear chaining him and the fact that other supporters of Voldemort were still after him? Also I think it was feasible with Sirius character that he would change into a massive dog and when he developed his animagus, his main aim was to be a protective factor around Moony. I don’t think Wormtail would ever have been capable of changing without James and Sirius help. This is heartbreaking as he is then able to have a hand in every one of his friends deaths.
Trelawney I find a fascinating character. She has faced a lifetime of disbelief and cynicism so she has developed this teacher persona that encourages pupils to idolise her and hang on her every word. She is portrayed as quite pathetic and it’s interesting in terms of how pivotal she actually is in terms of the whole story.
Yaaay! Oh that pleases me so much!!! I think what we realized in doing this is how much we were walking people through what happened when a quick summary would suffice, leaving room to speak more on thoughts.

I too love loved loved the Marauder's backstory! I totally forgot about it! And Sirius and Lupin ... chef's kiss. What a beautiful relationship. 💕
With the chains, I made the same argument to him but I know what he's meaning. It was very clearly a red herring and that stood out too much to us. Make those red herrings at least a little subtle. 😆
@@LoveLumos I think I’ve picked up that Matt is very literal when he is reading whereas when I read I can skip things that annoy me ( like overly descriptive text) without it jumping me out of the story. I suppose it’s relevant that this story was written with 13 year olds in mind with no clue of the phenomenon it would become and how many people would find plot holes or anomalies in the story 🐈🐕🐀
