Fun fact: Originally, Brel's song was not about Amsterdam but about Antwerp, the song then would've been called: Dans le port D'Anvers. However, Brel ran into problems because Anvers only has 2 syllables and therefore does not fit the song well. Brel therefore changed the city name into Amsterdam (3 syllables) in final version, but the rest of the text remained exactly the same.
