I'm 64 years old, born and raised in NYC spent 50 years there, yet i always been a country boy at heart. Now I live in Mississippi, as big a change you can make. This song and others brought me here. Now I am finally home!!!
Wow, I'm 58, born and raised in NYC and itching to leave. I have always felt more at home in the country and only feel at true peace at our vacation home in the mountains, away from all the noise.
This song actually started out as the B side of the single but a disc jocky played the wrong side by accident and eventually, the song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 200 Singles Chart!😮😊
This is the Doobie's love letter to New Orleans. They spent time there (Toulouse Street album) and experienced all the delights N.O. has to offer - taking a streetcar uptown, dancing in honky tonks with pretty girls, listening to Dixieland music, and watching the black water of the Mississippi River roll on.
When they are talking about Dixieland it is not just the geography but a style of music also. Dixieland jazz is a style uniquely placed with the history of New Orleans music scene .
I’ve seen them live a few times and even a few years ago they still sound just as great now as they did on their records. They broke up for a while in the 80’s but got back together. I still have my concert tshirt that says “ Doobie Brothers Farewell Tour 1982”. It was too large for me then but fits me now…. lol😂 ( I was almost 22 yrs old then😊) Love the reactions. Each day I can’t wait to see what’s next!
Love the Doobie Brothers, they were all over the radio in the 70’s and for good reason there awesome. Another song of there’s Jesus is Just Alright, China Grove, What A Fool Believes. Another band you might like is War, there song All Day Music is so chill and mellow, their a great band.
I still remember the thrill 12 year old me experienced seeing The Doobie Brothers on one of my fave shows, What's Happening! It was the event of the season!!!
Black Water is such a vibe. Makes me want to grab some beers and go fishing on a hot summer day. When they start singing in a round at the end of the song, I just can't help but sing along. It may not sound that good, but I'm gonna sing it anyway.
Cool Breeze Dreeezy. I'm an old white man (80), and I love old Motown (Temptations, Marvin Gaye) and Al Green too. But I also liked the Rolling Stones, Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Steely Dan. The most important thing I learned from listening to diverse kinds of music was that if you want to make beautiful music, you must play the black and the white notes together. Music is magic and brings people together.
I just love your reactions. You don't pause, you take in the whole song and get the experience just like we did way back when we first heard it. This one was no exception. Thank you.
A touch of Southern Rock! Take a look at their stuff with Michael McDonald was with them and some of his own stuff! Incredible vocals from him!❤ Everything the did was great!
Great song to mellow out to! 🥰 I vote for "Jesus is Just Alright"...it isn't overly religious but I love to "celebrate" Life, and be grateful, while listening to it! You rock, Dreezy! 🥰💜🥰
This was my favorite album/vinyl record when I was a teenager. I still have it. Saw them in Santa Barbara in concert in the 70's then last year in Northern California. It was absolutely incredible to see them live again and they sounded just as good as they did back in the day. Michael McDonald is a great addition to the Doobies...I'm so glad you are enjoying this music. Just think, your 65 year old grandmother was cool! I'm 67 and was just as cool back then as I am today....guess I will never grow up. LOL...thanks for the reaction
Earth Wind & Fire: September. Brothers Johnson Strawberry Letter 23. Kansas: Dust in the Wind. Bon Jovi: Dead or Alive Lionel Richie: Easy. His group Commodores song Brick House. My older brother listed to this music so I was I introduced to it very early. He loved the doobie brothers. Steeley Dan: Deacon Blue- very special because they solidify the greatness of a college football team in Alabama and their famous now deceased legendary coach Paul Bear Bryant-the team Crimson Tide.
The Doobie Brothers are from San Jose, Ca The singer & songwriter Pat Simmons was from the Santa Cruz Mt area , he seemed to be a bit more blue grass country in his playing & songs. Pat Simmons & the other guitarist Tom Johnston were the main Vocalist until Tom had to leave because of Health issues- then keyboardist Michael McDonald came in & he was really soulful
Tom Johnson and Pat Simmons (founders of the DBs) share a house up the road in the Santa Cruz mountains here. They played a lot of local venues in the area. We had the best music then including Santana, Credence Clearwater, Journey, Grateful Dead, Boz Scaggs
Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers are connected as studio artists. Michael McDonald recorded Peg with Steely and became a member of Doobie after this song and the 70s. The 80s was second British invasion.
I was a teenager when this came out. It was on the radio all the time! It takes me back to summer time at our local pool. I loved revisiting this song and my memories from back then. Yes! This is feel good music. ❤️
Isley Brothers have more than 50 years in the business. They have more of their songs sampled than most other groups. Their songs have been made classic in movies like Animal House. Classic soul: it’s Your Thang, Summer Breeze, Twist and Shout, Caravan of Love, For The Love of You, Whose That Lady? They all give a different vibe. These are early songs. They are still making music.
Long Train Running! Love this one. Touching lyrics. Growing up, there were train tracks up a slight hill not far behind my bedroom window. You could hear (and feel) the train heading toward and then away from you. I'd wonder where it came from, where it was going, and what freight it carried. Once it stopped and all us kids headed up to the tracks to see why. There was a huge pile of grain next to the track with more spilling forth. We'd wave at the conductor and the guy in the caboose as they flew by, thinking how exciting it must be on this powerful machine! One of my favorite stories of all time was from a magazine called Readers Digest. A guy submiited a short story where he talked about growing up with other kids near some railroad tracks. I read it many years ago, but will try to convey it as accurately as I can. He wrote (probably sometime back in the late 1960s) about a childhood experience. It went something like this... A bunch of us kids from very poor, but different neighborhoods (Irish, Italian, Jewish, etc.) would play baseball on an empty lot near the train tracks. Our families never interacted, but we always got along and enjoyed playing together. Whenever a train rattled by, we'd all wave and yell greetings to the conductor. On a cold, late December day, the train slowed to a crawl, then stopped. The conductor stepped down, handing us a big cardboard box. When we opened it, there were warm hats, scarves, and mittens - enough for all of us. And there was a note that said, "Merry Christmas to our miniature United Nations. It's our deeoest hope that the world, like you, will learn to live together in peace."
The thing about the Doobie Brothers is that each song sounds really different depending on which member wrote the song........so you get to know the styles of the writers, and if you don't like one, you might like another band member's songs.
Love the doobies. Michael McDonald in the group and solo is FIAH. BW is one of my all time faves. The Eagles: I CAN’T TELL YOU WHY please. It’s called Southern Rock.
man I love your reactions and analysis to the great selections that your picking. It's amazing how much you appreciate the great music that was created back in the day.
You said it took you a long time to get into the older music well you are here now so welcome to the party glad you enjoy the music we grew up listening to
Thanks, Dreez. this is my favorite by Doobies.. prior to "Christopher whatever" taking over vocals... lol appreciate your listen & reaction.. (yep, those "counter-melodies and instrumental talent..!.)
Have you done any Joe Cocker? I didnt see any. Do yourself a favor, there is nothing like him. Start with "with a little help from my friends" at Woodstock 1969. You will be amazed i promise ✌️❤️
To really hear the lead singer Michael McDonalds voice check out the Doobies doing it keeps you running, taking it to the street, and what a fool believes.. They’re great live Saw them when they first started out, Good stuff Mdreez
✨Love Your Reaction & That Your Luvin’ The Doobies❕ I Was Hoping You Would Consider Reacting to Carly Simon & Listen to “It Keeps You Running”, a Composition/Song Written & Performed by The Doobie Brothers That She Performs With Them on Her Album ‘Another Passenger’. Hope This intrigues You to Give a Listen to Her by Way of a Different Song Request Than The Usual “You’re So Vain”.✨🫶🏼🕊
Start those babies on music early. By the time they’re teens it’s probably too late. I started when my daughter was in utero. I think it made a difference
Yes, they have a bunch of bangers, but I’m partial to their softer songs that tell soulful stories. In particular, my favorite: th-cam.com/video/blwG5PT71rE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QnJOoRqgqyoZIPHx
"China Grove", "Long Train Running", "Jesus is Just Alright". Can't go wrong with any of these!
👍🏻
The Doobie Bros were HUGE back in the 70s! Please give Long Train Running. ✌️❤️🤘
Every boomer sings this in the supermarket. Great song !

I'm 64 years old, born and raised in NYC spent 50 years there, yet i always been a country boy at heart. Now I live in Mississippi, as big a change you can make. This song and others brought me here. Now I am finally home!!!
Tennessee is better! Hehe.....😅

It’s awesome seeing the younger generation appreciateing music I grew up with
I find myself watching for your beautiful smile when you hear something you like!
This was our back road, drinking, pot smoking, cruising song in high school in 1977. Good times and great memories!
I’ve seen them live a few times and even a few years ago they still sound just as great now as they did on their records. They broke up for a while in the 80’s but got back together. Albums and albums full of great songs.
Mississippi moon won't you keep shining ✨️ on me. Smooth as silk.
When I was little, I sometimes dreamed of living on a raft, floating on the river. Fishing all day. Haha!
Man you're on a roll ! You've been playing nothing but Bangers ! ✌️
My favorite Doobie Brothers song!
Great memories of the 70s. Summer days in NC. 🎶
I knew you would smile when they started the ‘A cappella’ part! I was just waiting for that & you didn’t disappoint! Love your reactions! 🤗
CSN and the Doobie Brothers on the same day! You are on fire!! Great reaction as always!
I Love the Doobie Brothers!!!

Same!
yay one of my favorites of theres you’ll love it
South City Midnight Lady is a great one.
From this same album, The Doobie Brothers song, "Another Park, Another Sunday " has some of the most beautiful guitar playing you'll ever hear...
And a great sax solo if you listen to the live version

Flashback to freshmen year at college, walking down the halfway with 3 buds singing to the refrain in 4 part harmony..... man we were good!!
Great song to mellow out to! 🥰
I vote for "Jesus is Just Alright"...it isn't overly religious but I love to "celebrate" Life, and be grateful, while listening to it! You rock, Dreezy! 🥰💜🥰
China Grove!♡ 🎶
And BTW....still performing at the same level. Got a double header with Doobies and Santana! What a night 4 years ago in Austin Texas!
This was my favorite album/vinyl record when I was a teenager. I still have it. Saw them in Santa Barbara in concert in the 70's then last year in Northern California. So happy you got to this one!
Thanks for listening to this tune. I'm happy that you loved it as much as I do.
'WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES' is their BEST song, imo.
The Doobies are great! They have so many great songs. Enjoy.
Earth Wind & Fire: September. Brothers Johnson Strawberry Letter 23.

There's few finer bands to serve your kids than perhaps the Doobies, Three Dog Night, and a big etc.
They are still touring and definitely belong in the Hall of Fame
Great song and reaction
See, when that smile naturally comes out. Great music.
China Grove is a good one
Had one of their albums when I was in High School. Every song on it rocked. Loved the whole album. Played this song a million times! : )
The Doobie Brothers are awesome! This is a dynamite song! From my teen years. You’re right! It’s timeless!
Long Train Running is one of the best mixes of acoustic & elactric guitars. And of course awesome harmonies!
Good grief. You've entered the way back machine with this one.
Cheers!
"Long Train Runnin'", "Another Park, Another Sunday"
Massive classic! Love to see you reacting to things that aren't being reacted to by a thousand others.
Love this song! Brings teenage vibes to this 66 year old!
Tom Johnson and Pat Simmons (founders of the DBs) share a house up the road in the Santa Cruz mountains here. They played a lot of local venues in the area. We had the best music then including Santana, Credence Clearwater, Journey, Grateful Dead, Boz Scaggs
I saw Tom Johnston during his solo time at the Belly Up near San Diego. So good!!! Simmons and Johnston remain as some of my favorite musicians! ☮️💜
Poco - " heart of the night"
Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers are connected as studio artists.
Michael McDonald recorded Peg with Steely and became a member of Doobie after this song and the 70s. The 80s was second British invasion.
I was a teenager when this came out. It was on the radio all the time! It takes me back to summer time at our local pool. I loved revisiting this song and my memories from back then. Yes! This is feel good music. ❤️
I built me a raft and she's ready for floatin. 6th grade groovin to the Doobies.
"Clear as the Driven Snow" is another banger that starts slow and builds to a crescendo demonstrating their superior vocals and musicianship.
Isley Brothers have more than 50 years in the business. They have more of their songs sampled than most other groups. Their songs have been made classic in movies like Animal House. MD....you are a connoisseur of good music!!!!
MDreezy what is happening? Please listen to "China Grove" I love the drums in this one. Thank you
"South City Midnight lady" for a vibe similar to this one; "Long Train Running" and "China Grove" for a vibe similar to "Listen to the Music."
70s !
Doooooobies. ❤😂
I LOVE BLACK WATER!
Just a old man talking with my old lady wondering why the youth of today cant make any more music. SO SAD
Long Train Running!
Love this one. Touching lyrics.

Their version of this in isolation during Covid is pretty awesome! Worth a listen.

A lot and I mean a lot of people thought that the Doobie brothers were southern but no this band originated in San Jose CA ✌️& ❤️
China Grove is one of my favorites from them and Michael McDonald came in as lead Minute by Minute is great also.
Love the doobies. Michael McDonald in the group and solo is FIAH. BW is one of my all time faves.

♥
Not bad for some California guys imitating Southerners ! The style is called “Cajun”.
🌸 so another good Doobie Brothers song is called " one by one"
CCR, is a must!
Have you done any Joe Cocker? I didnt see any. Do yourself a favor, there is nothing like him. Start with "with a little help from my friends" at Woodstock 1969. You will be amazed i promise ✌️❤️

I could get high on the DOOBIES music forever....
Great band from my teenage years, Long Train Running is even better.
Another Doobie banger is Takin' it to the Streets -" try to find a live version. Powerful, funky, talks about social justice. Shouldn't be missed....
