Reminds me of some animations in Crash Twinsanity, specifically in the level cavern catastrophe, at the start of the level Dr. Neo Cortex and Crash are fighting in a way you can roll them trough the level, like a ball. But if you leave them alone they will play some fighting animations, Crash will choke and attempt to break the Dr.'s arm, whereas, Cortex will smash Crash's face against the ground, and spank him???
okay but how about the character actually getting embarrassed about their own idle animation? in A Hat In Time, one of Hat Kid's idle animations is playing with dolls, and the animation finishes with her looking around and quickly putting the dolls away. it's adorable.
I forgot about that game. Too bad the PS4 version never got a single update.

You missed a couple BotW ones: if Link stands around at night long enough he'll start nodding off, and if he crouches long enough his wrist gets tired and he shakes his hand around to get his circulation back.

It's not just guys who need a little adjustment now and then. In Shantae: Risky's Revenge, Shantae's idle animation is to adjust her bikini top.
I just played it again, like a week ago and I always liked that idle animation! I love that game and it's really cool to see someone talk about it, I don't see people bring it up much. 😁

The irony is that in one of the Star Wars Expanded Universe books, Luke actually comments to someone that most systems designed to detect hidden weapons misread lightsabers as some type of shaving device. He does then go on to say that while you "could" use one for shaving, if you are desperate.
Also, it's Kyle Katarn we're talking about. There is no blade, Vibro or otherwise, sharp enough to cut his mighty hair, so he had to improvise.
His hair shavings are later collected and used to create the hulls of Rebel Tanks.

I'll have you know that shaving with a lightsaber is one of the trials you must pass to become a Jedi Master. Kind of like how you have to shave a balloon with a straight razor to graduate barber college.

That said, there was a Clone Wars microseries of Western Anime on Cartoon Network long ago where they dubbed Anakin Skywalker a Jedi Knight and cut off his Padawan braid...So you are half right, at least as far as that show goes, and it was pretty cool I admit. Maybe not real Star Wars, but a cool idea nonetheless...

The Sorceress character in Gauntlet: Dark Legacy will start practicing smacktalk to the air in front of her if you leave her alone; while the Knight will use his mace like a cleaning brush in a shower.
The heroes in D03 just make snide remarks if you leave them alone too long. Apparently the world needs to be saved or something.

Also in the Borderlands series, if you dont do anything long enough, even when its paused, the characters will comment on how boring it is. If there's more than one they'll have short conversations.
Not embarrassing, just really adorable: I recently played Okami again and Amaterasu sitting down and eventually falling asleep is my absolute favourite. I wish she would scratch behind her ear or chase her own tail too. She might be a sun goddess but she's also just a simple doggo :3

In the Sly Cooper series, if you stand around for a while as Sly, there's a chance he'll start scratching his back with his cane causing his leg to start twitching uncontrollably. For Mr Suave the master thief, it's pretty comical.

Perhaps more disturbing than embarrassing, but I once got called away from a game of *Pandemonium!* and when I got back, my character was slumped on the ground, beating his head against a wall.

Commander Keen in Goodbye, Galaxy
This game has an easter egg where Commander Keen, on the Pyamid of Moons level, when positioned on the moon sigil, would turn his butt to the camera and 'moon' the audience.
Does that count?
Epic shout. Even in the rest of the game, he sits down and gets a book out. Like a nerrrrrrd.
The only distinction being, Keen obviously does want you to see it. Good call out!

The metro games: depending on which gun you have out, your character pinches himself with the gun while playing around with it, and another gun falls apart and you can watch him put it back together in a panic. Oh, Atrom.

Some lightsabers have a setting to lessen the intensity of the blade. Mainly for younglings getting accustomed to combat, but also for a non-lethal option.

I'll always remember Conker's Bad Fur Day. One of his idle animations has him take out a game gear and play Killer Instinct. Also Mario 64, Mario actually laid down and went to sleep.
Mario also falls asleep in Odyssey as well
And if you left him asleep long enough, he falls into an even deeper sleep and starts dreaming about pasta

In a hat in time, one of the idle animations for hat kid, she pulls out a doll of an owl and a mafia guy, plays with them, looks around and then puts them away, it’s adorable ☺️

It's been years since I played it (like 25), but I still remember Jill from Jill of the Jungle not knowing where she is if you leave her alone for too long. It's rather embarrassing that she gets lost while standing still.
In ocarina of time, adult Link will adjust his trousers/leggings every once in a while if you leave him idle. It's not particularly embarrassing though, it's not a wedgie or anything.
If you're in a cold place, he will start shivering and sneeze. In a hot area, mainly anywhere in Death Mountain crater, even if you're wearing the Goron tunic he will react to the heat.
In before someone mentions Tomb Raider: Underworld with the weird and erotic stretches Lara does when you leave her alone for too long.

Artyom, in the Metro games, will, when idle, start checking whatever weapon he has equipped, working actions, dusting off glow-sights and, sometimes, dropping the hammer of a gun on his own thumb.
In the original Blood game letting the characters stand still for a while will cause them to start singing showtunes, in the sequel one of them when left idle starts telling your mama jokes.

in the Saints Row series, if you don't pause and leaves the Boss standing there, they will become more and more agitated
starting with "I'll just gonna stay here... just... say here..." and get angry enough to break the fourth wall and yell "HEY YOU! pick. up. the. controller!"

Not sure if I can call it an idle animation, but I believe if you don't play for too long in the Discworld games, Rincewind also gets impatient and gets up in the screen and complains.
Sonic's idle animation is great. I think I've played a few games after that took inspiration from Sonic as well. I often go back to play it just to listen to the music in Green Hill Zone.
That's funny because in Sonic CD, if you leave Sonic tapping his foot for too long he will say "I'm outta here!" and jump off the stage resulting in an instant game over.

Technically, it's not that unreasonable to shave with a lightsaber, as in universe they do have intensity settings for the beam to reduce it to skin safe for training purposes and non-lethal fighting. True you rarely see this used, but in most instances in which a jedi has to use a lightsaber, things have gone well beyond non-lethal methods. It's entirely possible for a jedi to safely shave with a lightsaber if it is well enough built to allow for such intensity settings. This has been your useless trivia fact of the day.

The Star Wars: Jedi Knights examples become even funnier when you realize that lightsabers are described as being “loops of plasma energy,” meaning they’re basically plasma chainsaws, and that essentially means one character is trying to shave with a chainsaw (!) and the other is poking it while it’s active to see if it hurts (!!!)- both incredibly absurd images.
I like to pose the theory that lightsabers are intertwined loops of plasma, the more loops involved changes the temperature, inertia, and most importantly the blue-shift coloration of the blade. Sith red sabers have three intertwined loops, green sabers use five, blue have seven, and sabers have nine fields.
@@BogeyTheBear That might have varying levels of accuracy for IRL science (I’m no expert), but in Star Wars lore the color comes from the Kyber Crystal used in the weapon’s construction. The reason Sith all have red sabers is because they use artificial crystals; which somehow always come in red.
As for characteristics such as inertia, Star Wars seems to treat it as being a function of the format and layout of the weapon. For example, most humanoid characters wield lightsabers like normal swords, while those who use double-bladed sabers like Darth Maul manage to wield them like staves. Essentially the weapons get treated like their fully non-plasma counterparts with the caveat that the wielder can’t touch the plasma.

Ken Griffey Baseball on the SNES idle animation was the first one I remember. If you left it alone for a few min the umpire would turn around and knock on the screen and say "Play the Game kid!!". He had an angry look on his face and looked like he was being quite bothered for time.

For those of us that look like Wookies after not shaving for a week, lightsaber shaving is cost effect and definite reward vs risk.
Also it incinerates all the clippings, so no trying-to-clean-between-the-tiles or clogged drain

In Crash Bandicoot 3 (both original and N-Sane Trilogy), Crash will bring out a yo-yo to play with as one of his idle animations. Unfortunately, one of his tricks can end up going wrong and Crash ends up entangling himself in his own yo-yo, and has to spin his way out

Don't know what you're talking about. But in Saints Row 2 if you leave your character idling in an area with specific NPC activities, they will adopt that particular activity as their idle animation. For example, stand around on a pier where others are fishing, eventually your character will walk over to the edge and start casting their own line.

I can think of idle animations I like more than ones I think are embarrassing for the characters.
My favorite I can think of is the string of more and more elaborate dances Raz can do the longer you're idle in Milla's Dance Party in Psychonauts.
And when I was small I used to stand around in Jill of the Jungle just to watch her insulting other game protagonists.
Ok but the borderlands characters, especially zero, straight sass you. It's not an animation but getting told we're boring by zero is amazing.
Games I play have idles that have the character just wait in constant warrior pose which much hurt. Ghost of Tsushimas idle is best though as after every mission, you and your horse just stand together while everyone else watches or just wonders what you are doing. 👀

I'm reminded of the idle animations from Bionicle Heroes (also a Lego game) where your chosen bio-mechanical Toa would just pop off their head and do keepy-uppies with it, or take off their leg to scratch a hard-to-reach itch on their back.

The Star Wars ones kinda remind me of the idle animation in Eternal Darkness where the temporary player character Anthony has stabbing himself in the hand with his weapon as an idle animation - he has the excuse, though, of having recently turned into a zombie and clearly just doing it out of morbid curiosity.
We can all tell how much time Luke spends at the gym with his description of the ab building push ups DK is doing. Love this guy.

As player we like think that we are one that allow main character to do cool things but occasionally in cutscene they just become true badass to point saying why can’t I do that like dying light where main character escape a arena know as the pit by grabbing machete off ground slicing 2 enemy to death than slicing the main antagonist hand right off than grabbing gun that was in that shooting guard on rail before climbing way up where talk to dying doctor before leaping over we gain back control as we escape.
Could be a video idea, times where you were way cooler in the cutscene.
I love the creative Humongous Entertainment idle animations. Spy Fox did things like juggling if you left him alone too long.
You forgot Sly 2, Band of Thieves, where one of Murray's idle animations is to accidentally drop his belt, then quickly pull it back up as if he'd dropped his nonexistent pants.
2:17 Preach! I used to work at a gym and dudes would seriously be giving themselves bedroom eyes in the mirror. I understand looking at yourself to check your form. I understand checking for imbalances in muscular development. I understand being proud of your progress. The DK 64 one looked more like he was trying to keep the fly in long enough to eat it, rather than a reaction of shock and embarrassment. Also, apes eat bugs. They're not particularly embarrassed about it.

We talking about the original game for the original Xbox or the new remastered one, for the new and last gen consoles? I'd check for myself but the old girl is quite stubborn and not wanting to power up,when she dose, games play just fine. Not bad for a for a console from 19 years ago. That last sentence seem like forever ago, hard to believe I was only 4.....seems like a lifetime ago.
If Desmond is being monitored a lot in universe, then the constant adjustments could be an attempt to make those watching him uncomfortable, either to show his disapproval of the situation or to get them to watch less carefully in case he plans on trying something to get out.

*laughs* I really like the Mara Jade one, if only because it reminds me of the idles from one of my favorite classic games -- American McGee's Alice! Specifically, if you left her alone with a weapon equipped, she'd have a few idles based around playing with the weapon. And with most of them, one of them was her accidentally hurting herself. From trying to perform a card trick and getting the card lodged in her forehead, to accidentally smacking herself in the head with her croquet mallet, to dropping the Jackbomb on her foot. She even has a similar idle to the Mara one, where she pokes at the business end of her Jabberwock's Eye Staff. Fortunately, that one just leaves her with a bit of goo on her finger, which she wipes off on her already filthy dress, so. . .better luck than Mara!

In Battle for Middle-Earth, Gimli will occasionally flip his axe in the air and catch it, but one out of about four times he does this, he drops it and has to quick pick it up again before going back to standing around. One of the Hobbits (probably Pippin but I don't remember if he's the only one) lies down and stretches out like he's going to take a nap, before jumping back up and looking around like he just got caught sleeping on the job.
We can all tell how much time Luke spend sat the gym by his description of the ab building push-up DK is doing. Love this guy.

Joker's idle dialogues if you stand behind him long enough. One of them features some... questionable audio played before Joker quickly switches it off and says it should've been in his earpiece.

In Assassins Creed Brotherhood, Ezio has been known to fall asleep on a horse. Being such a great Assassin does get tiring I suppose.
