OK RESONANCE!!! A lot of people have only heard of Dionne Warwick after the height of her career and her damaged voice from smoking but they forget how incredible of a vocalist she was. You can tell where Whitney was influenced her mother and her cousin Dionne. Dionne during her heyday had one of the best voices of all time.

What's even more impressive than some of them belts is how she can pull back on the power and volume of belts and high notes in chest voice. Dionne is a singer with a slightly odd sound. Sort of crackly. Totally appealing! I think her technique and style were among the best. Wonderful tone, timber and phrasing, unique vocal runs. She's a total original. People talk about the vocal decline she now shows, but they don't talk about what remains--her incredible understanding of working with a melody and judicious service of the lyrics--again, incredible technique.

And to add, age just becomes a disadvantage on any person when they reach the mellow stage, age advances and u can't go against it. Dionne has been smoking but not even once has she failed to perform, she just has this emerse breath and energy u can't compare, that is why even today at her very advance age she still sings.❤

What I love about Dionne so much is how she respects the lyrics and the story. She belts when the song calls for it, gets dreamy and reflective and wistful when the words read like poetry. She's not performative, never showing off. Just delivering what she thinks the song is about. I'm still haunted by her versions of "One Less Bell to Answer" or "Make it Easy on Yourself".

If Dionne did not have incredible technique and musicality, as well as her latterly developed lower range, then she would not be able to sing with her present-day voice. Also a curse, in a strange way, that so many of her hits are difficult as Hell to sing. Many singers, in their prime, could not/would not touch Bacharach and David songs.

Only a fool would underestimate Dionne Warwick. Sure, she's considered an Alto or Contralto but Dionne can actually out-belt many sopranos in chest and mixed register.
Also, Dionne has always been wise enough to hide her power and range at the start of every performance, exposing these vocal hallmarks only in key moments to amaze the audience.
Although her cousin Whitney Houston is regarded as the most vocally powerful female singer in history, Dionne - during her prime - actually had a wider belting range than Whitney. Watch.
